As far as the pandemic, people forget that hospitals and medical care is not an infinite resource, once all the beds are full and there isn't enough medical staff the death rate would increase dramatically. In my area there were 2 different times when the caseloads came very close to exceeding capacity.
I'll never understand millions of Americans advocating for MORE people to die, and that we should have actually fully packed those field hospitals so that more would have died alone in parking lots. Hth?
@@genericamerican7574And meanwhile, MAGAs asked, “Gee, what happened to the flu this year?” The total lack of critical thinking, even reasonable thinking, in that population is astounding.
That’s true, Covid was a serious medical emergency. I only know about Covid restrictions and death rates in Europe. We have over 40 countries in Europe and every one of them had different covid restrictions, and some countries had regional variations in restrictions too. There were places with outdoors FFP2 mask mandates, and there were places with no mask mandates at all with just a recommendation to wear a mask on public transport during rush hour. There were places where they only tasted sick people with a pcr tests, and other places where everyone had to take a rapid covid test every 3 days to participate in society. There were places where bars cafes were closed for 18 months out of 2 year pandemic period and places where bars and cafes were never closed, and everything in between. The thing is that none of that matters: masks, frequent testing, shop and cafe closures, travel restrictions, and so on makes little or no difference. When you compare countries around Europe, what’s important is vaccination rate of people over 60, and gdp per capita which means healthier population and better healthcare system. Most lockdown measures were pointless and that was obvious in mid to late 2020.

People rarely change their mind on the spot. Even Destiny has said that he rarely changes his mind mid-conversation, and that these conversations are merely placing seeds of doubt in the other person's mind so that, perhaps a day or a month afterwards, they realize the inconsistency in their worldview.
@@youtubeviolatedme7123This just isn’t true. Someone who can’t admit they’re wrong on the spot will rarely ever admit they’re actually wrong ever unless it becomes socially advantageous to do so. Also, what you’re talking about is a different phenomenon than people admitting they’re wrong but still moving as if their initial premise was correct
@@DavidJones-ot8quIf your mind is changed in a 10 minute conversation you never truly held the belief to begin with. All “changing of minds” should ideally be done though long form argumentation; debates are just “exposure”.
@ Obviously if you’re being presented complex facts in the middle of a debate you can’t immediately verify (or think of how they may/may not change your belief) it’s silly to immediately change your position. Destiny does this all the time actually. He’ll agree with someone (or at least nod along) because verifying all the discrete facts for a complex argument takes longer than 5 minutes. You’re not mad someone didn’t change their mind in 30 seconds (in which case you are emotionally unstable) you just disagree with Hanania and are finding things to justify your anger.
18:20 , naw, the school lockdowns were necessary. Very few kids had fatal COVID experiences, but we have to consider the health and safety of the teachers, those kids’ parents, grandparents, etc. The problem isn’t that the lockdowns didn’t work - they did. The problem is that people expected lockdowns to get rid of COVID after a few months, which of course it didn’t. Probably a third of all Americans got it at some point. The idea was to slow the spread and protect as many people as possible while we were information gathering and coming up with better ideas than lockdowns. You could also argue pretty saliently that lockdowns weren’t as effective as they could’ve been because about a third of the population was being spoon fed drivel about not trusting science, believing masks were useless, etc, etc, so at least a third of folks just took little to zero precaution, which of course opened up others who’d otherwise been careful to infection. I had to slowly withdraw from working in healthcare after COVID though. I had so many instances post-vaccine of unvaccinated chuds physically assaulting staff because they still didn’t believe in COVID. I literally got to the point of wishing they were all 6ft under, which is not a healthy way of thinking about people
As a nurse practitioner working on COVID units, I completely agree with you! Telling one of those idiots who didn’t get vaccinated because Gates was implanting a chip that they had COVID and were being admitted and possibly put on a vent was a *major* risk to my wellbeing!
Exactly. Many illness, we do not consider as deadly, because we have functioning healthcare system. But healthcare system is not "system", it is humans - doctors nurses, cleaners etc - who also gets sick.
Absolute brainrot and narcissistic injury, when reality doesn't match your deeply held beliefs you have to ex post facto explain the real reasons why reality didn't match your ideology. All around the world in countries with significantly worse healthcare infrastructure, places did much better than the US without school closures or vaccine access or lockdowns and other countries with extremely strict lockdowns like Australia and China did just as bad as the US. Like if these things had a positive effect like you claim Australia would have stomped it in a few months, they were locked down for a year with strict police and military enforcement. Also you have 50 states that all handled it differently and places like Florida did just as well or better as other stricter states without lockdown enforcement and in warm weather.
We couldn’t have locked down forever, tho. The economy would be in tatters. I think that’s the crux of the anger and disagreement from that time; some people wanted to open up to help the economy and their livelihoods, others wanted to wait longer for health reasons.
I have family that works in public healthcare in relation to school districts. Massive economic and grade impacts in schools with little to no covid policies compared to the ones with them.
I really don’t get it… he knows everything and acknowledges it’s bad, so wtf is going on in his brain to vote for trump??? It’s probably just stubbornness, he’s made being “an intelligent trump supporter” his whole brand and identity.
Not really, he's simply doing what Destiny did on ben shapiro and jordan peterson. He is trying to find points of agreement and build from there. In reality alot of the agreement however has huge qualifications. For example, it would be as if a race anti realist said to a race realist/race essentialist: "I think diversity is a good thing and we should have more of it in the workplace". The race realist might say "sure I think so too", do they agree? Not really, because their reasonings to arrive to that position is very different and somewhat opposed, which is significant because reasoning informs the policy decision. The race realist wants to enforce policy such as race quotas because he believes unless we have equality of outcome than we won't achieve the diversity due to prejudices he believes to be inherent in modern society or in more extreme cases inadequacies that might be inherent to a certain race. The race anti realist however would want to simply remove race realist doctrine so that diversity can be achieved by removing the idea that race is somehow materially significant to a person's identity or capabilities. So how they actualize their beliefs will be contrary. While it might seem that he is simply conceding Destiny's talking points there are qualifications of those talking points going unnoticed in the conversation that ultimately lead to the disagreement. There also are situations where he'll acknowledge a talking point but not push back very much like Destiny did in lex Friedman. A good example is the conspiracy argument, and how conspiratorial the right is. While the guest admits this is true, its clear that he doesnt believe thats a good reason to not vote right. They pointed out the conspiracies of the right that demonize our institutions with out evidence and how crazy it is and the guest will agree that those things are crazy but wont bring up situations where he probably believes the left does this as well (antifa, defund the police, healthcare, trans sports), all movements that aimed to demonize institutions based on farcicle claims. Some people might argue these arent conspiracies, but only because the goal post shifted to make them true. For example when people thought that there was racial bias in cop shootings. Reasonable people will say "well hold on, while there might be differencs overall, you didn't control for cases where the cop discharged their firearm for legitimate reasons, it seems the bais goes away once you do that". To which the response was essentially, "well the laws are racist then". And then when those ideas are challenged the racism goes back another level until its so abstract its difficult to even begin to engage the idea meaningfully. The point being that qualifying it as not a conspiracy doesn't negate that the world view being pushed is demonstrably false and harmful. In addition to the condemnation of the conspiracies. One thing I think the guest pointed out very well, is that while it's true that the malevolent conspiracies being touted by the right aren't true, that doesn't make the behavior in question any less incorrect. It just means it's not the worst thing ever. Destiny is familiar with this talking point as it's the whole "is the israel palestine conflict a genocide" conversation, it can be a bad thing but that doesn't make it a genocide, much less apartheid. Unfortunately Destiny's audience is incredibly populist left and won't concede on any of these points much like maga wouldn't concede on any of the points against them. Which is funny to me because idk how it's at all satisfying to watch him dunk on Maga pundits for things they fundamentally don't disagree with.

What, so you’re going to do a job for free just doing one simple task for a few years. What does he expect people will learn this way? College taught me not only multi disciplinary skills, but also taught me how to learn. If you’re in engineering, it will teach you the concepts of science that make engineering work. The idea that an unpaid internship will be equivalent is simply idiotic. No wonder he voted for Trump.
the idea is perfectly fine if it worked, the problem is that it's unrealistic. But if instead of going to a college/uni I can just work for a company for below minimum wage and actually learn the job(as in, you have someone who shows you what they do, and explains why etc so you properly learn it not just you blindly do a task) that would be great. You get proper on the work training as that's one of the biggest weaknesses of schools, and you would have a much easier time getting a proper full time job after due to having been trained well, on the job.
the lag between vaccine availability and the ending of Mask Mandates specifically, and other recommended precautions generally can be rationally justified by time needed to build minimum herd immunity while accounting for virus mutations. No need to ascribe evil intent or conspiratorial coordination to keep our family, friends, and neighbors from several illnesses or death.
The mandate for masks on airplanes had to be struck down by a Trump judge for it to end. It happened well past when vaccines were widely available. You’re right that Democrats hesitancy on ending the mask mandates was not done for evil reasons. It was done out of cowardice. They didn’t want to go against activists/neurotic elites.

I wanted my son to wear his mask for longer only because I worked with covid patients, and I wanted to have less of a chance of him giving someone something. When I left the bedside then he could stop wearing them. Some parents just took extra precautions.
Yeah. It's one thing to say that having lockdowns even after vaccines were being distributed is an overreaction, since prolonged lockdowns might have some unintended negative consequences which outweigh any potential positives, but I really don't see any serious detriment in children wearing masks, so it doesn't seem unreasonable for the state or for parents to want to be safe rather than sorry.
Yes! I was a Montessori teacher during the pandemic and we didn’t mandate masks for the kids but a lot of them wore them because their parents wanted them to. You are so right! So many people forget that the point of masks was to stop the spread, not protect the individual wearing the mask.
“Wasting 3 years of you life handing in assignments” he’s completely ignoring any possibility of the social aspects, increasing your network, general growth from those living on their own which tends to happen whether they are only there for the degree or not. Then argues for company’s to take kids under their wing to train them up, which they already do. We call them internships and companies go to colleges so they spend less time and money to find kids that actually have an interest or a degree focused on what they want a new hire for. This is like all his arguments for supporting a lunatic. Wanting to support something with almost nothing backing it up.
Also the massive thing is why would any company want to pay to babysit someone that wouldnt stay at their company forever. He is basically saying "can we re establish company towns, and can i pay my employees in vbux" its just such a short sighted approach to everything

As much of a soy lefty take as this is, "Taking away 4 years of your life" is a very capitalist-brained way of viewing college. People aren't machines, people take time to develop. Sometimes it's less or more than 4 years, but college is a good place to develop yourself as a person. Pandemic wise, hospitals were heavily overcrowded. I’m an electrician and I remember we had to make some emergency additions to some hospitals around us to allow for Covid testing, extra screenings, and even extra feeds for refrigerated trucks when the morgues were full. We saw first hand that COVID was filling the hospitals, and I can imagine what happened to the people who couldn’t get screening and treatment.
No need to imagine. I had it described to me by a nurse who worked during it. The people deemed to have the best chance were ventilated on the limited number of machines available. The rest were dosed up on morphine so they wouldn't be fully awake as they drowned in their own mucous. She'd come home every day and just sob.

Wait, he is saying that not to many people in China go to college. Sure. But the success in tech and science in China absolutely comes from the Chinese who go to college. It is just that their population is 5x the US population and so even if the Chinese population that goes to college is 1/3 of the US, China has more college graduates.
So what? People in America are less interested in stem fields anyways so even if more people went to college nothing would change plus America already has a massive amount of people who to college compared to the rest of the world so I don't understand why yall weirdos argue college good or college bad let people live their lives who cares 😂
2.7% of china's population is actively enrolled in college as of 2023, thats 39million people, thats more then the 16million people for the USA in the same period, which is 4.8% of the US population, so yes not many people compared to their population go to college, and the numbers are even more skewed then that because the rate of primary education in horrible in china, most people are born, live, and die, in towns that look straight out of the 1750's, just with run down jalopy cars and tractors instead of horses and donkeys, most of china is field to mouth sustenance farming villages with little to no education. this goes beyond the fact that most chinese innovation is just stealing someone elses IP and reselling it.
The problem with college is that the standards for admission have become so low that anyone get enroll. In our parents' generation, only the best and brightest attended college. Most people graduated high school and went straight into the workforce. But credentialism has turned the bachelor's degree into the new high school diploma, which is why every kid is told they must go to college regardless of their intellectual capabilities or interests.

1. Destiny has no clue about H-1B. If it was to reduce workforce cost why is it so many companies don't want to apply for H-1B, and almost every job application includes a question about whether you will now or in the future need a sponsorship to work? H-1B includes a lot of work and bureaucracy, it's far from free, and it is *not* used to lower hiring cost, but really to fill a need for high skilled employees. 2. Hanania implied that since he saw kids in LA wear masks, it is proof there were mandates. BS. Most people (including children) in blue areas wore masks to reduce infection (it definitely did). But yeah generally two smart people here.
Bullshit. It’s 100% for labor costs. An Indian or Chinese engineer is almost always going to accept a lower salary compared to a U.S. born citizen. NATO wasn't on the table to begin with. There was a ru military base on UA territory meaning it was impossible. Obama let that happen to ensure UA couldn't join and so the US could put bases in old USSR areas for gwot.
California required masking in schools beginning in mid-December 2021. California ended required masks in mid-February 2023. Los Angeles also ended the requirement at the same time. The policy was in place for 14 months. Not years. Not two years, Not almost two years. Also, there was evidence that masks helped reduce transmission where compliance was merely higher rather than total. See, for example, "Impact of community masking on COVID-19: A cluster-randomized trial in Bangladesh"
I’m assuming that’s cuz they weren’t in person prior to December 2021? Cuz there’s no way they would go from remote learning to NO MASKS to mask mandates

When my grandparents were kids, we had vocational training that made most colleges unnecessary, and college cost so little that the notion of a student loan was laughable. Today, if you want to earn a wage you can live on, you need college, or some massive certifications. When I was in IT, the indian company they brought in to train me told me that for foreign workers, certificates meant as much if not more than degrees. The COMPTIA A+ hardware/software cert means about as much as an associates degree in CIT these days, and if you can get your network+ and security+ certs, it's the equivalent of a bachelor's. There are further certs that companies view as the equivalent of a master's after time, especially if you also have work experience over time. If it became the standard that IT companies hired out of college, gave vocational training to prep you to get certs, which the company also rewarded with guarenteed competitive wages and promotions, kinda like our grandparents had, college could be considered unnecessary. In the meantime, fuck me if I feel I should have my own living space at 25.

As far as the pandemic, people forget that hospitals and medical care is not an infinite resource, once all the beds are full and there isn't enough medical staff the death rate would increase dramatically. In my area there were 2 different times when the caseloads came very close to exceeding capacity.
So many people died. Without the masks and the distancing it would have been worse. Thankfully so many people came together to get a vaccination done.

It’s probably just stubbornness, he’s made being “an intelligent trump supporter” his whole brand and identity.
Yet, will never vote anything else than right politicians.

Literature is important to study because having a mastery of communication and language, especially written language, allows us to preserve ideas, and effectively analyze written ideas of the past so that we don’t leave behind important discoveries or concepts. Government and law are important to study because having a grasp of the function of both institutions allows us to effectively navigate them, which allows us to affect change efficiently in government, and allows us to understand how to coexist within laws, or what laws may need shifting. Philosophy is important to study because it’s the basis of all of our systems; ethics seems obviously important to understand but I can elaborate more if needed

Now we are at the point where they aren’t even bothering with bringing foreign labor through Visas… they’re just hiring remote work engineers in their own countries.
You have two liberals and intelligent men but one supports Trump even tho his foundation is “Trump will do amazing, as long as he doesn’t do anything he said he’s going to do.”
"San Francisco should be a megacity the size of Tokyo"
I don't think he realizes that the reason Tokyo is that absolutely massive is that an entire THIRD of Japan's population of over 100 million people live there. It needs to be a megacity just to service that many people. Are 30 million people willing to move to SF?
Covid started in March 2020. February 2023 is over 2 years after March 2020.
@@M3A3J3Thats not the claim Richard made though 😅
@@M3A3J3 The CA mask mandate did not commence until December 2021. Read more carefully.
I’m assuming that’s cuz they weren’t in person prior to December 2021? Cuz there’s no way they would go from remote learning to NO MASKS to mask mandates
Felt like 3 looking years I had to dodge the mask police. Never complied. Never will.
The reason why tariffs will be pretty inflationary, is because the logistics of the USA is based on trucks and rail. It is cheaper to transport stuff from overseas on ships, because there is no US shipping system thanks to a few laws that make it impractical.

Hating Labor Unions is such a tell. This guy probably has so much money and is okay with workers slaving away their whole life with no healthcare, retirement, benefits, or proper monetary compensation for their labor.
How do unions banning port automation benefit other workers?

if california is so awful, why did musk ever have companies here?
He’s pulling his companies out 😂

@@godzilla101188 Because he has a lot of buildings and they can’t all be pulled at the same time? Derp? And if Gavin keeps on being Gavin, the rest of those will move eventually.
@@MithosDagon they could, but I think you know the answer since he’s admitted it on X. HB-1 visa workers don’t want to go elsewhere outside CA. And Americans aren’t smart enough to fill tech positions, and if they r they r more expensive or lazier than HB-1 visa workers.
Average lifespan in the USA = 77.5 years old. Retire at 70...
1:09:28, Bullshit. Land is not in shortage in the United States. We have a terrible abundance of land that ain't nobody done shit with that we should be developing for Housing.
If conservatives want to cut social security, fine. Then I expect to be paid back all the money I already put into it.
This guy can come join my roofing crew for a day and then decide whether 70 is a good age to retire lmao. I’ll even give him the easy job and let him pick up trash for 8 hours.
This is someone who has never and will never do manual labor or work a job that’s demanding on your body physically. He’s an academic turned twitter activist who’s ideas crumble under the slightest scrutiny
Yup. thank you for saying it. Typical bookworm who shits on anyone who has to do actual labor for a living.
It’s not my job to pay for your retirement.
@ stop paying taxes then my guy! Cause you will be otherwise, just like I’ll be paying for yours❤️
@@joshuatoland4228 Why is it my moral responsibility to pay for your retirement?
@@michaelhutchings6602 You pay for mine, so we can pay for yours. We are just ensuring there is enough money in the pot to pay for it. It's not like I'm just taking your money because I'm old. You pay into the pension, that is borrowed and paid to retiree's, and then by the time you retire, you will be getting the money of the current workers paid to you.

So the solution to a fun, but learning, environment like college where you can balance learned and still living a life of new freedoms and experiences as you prepare for adulthood……should be replaced by low-paying “work experiences” in the labor market. This just sounds like more words for an internship lmao

@eagle20mids " woke cringe culture " as you put it. I have no idea what you are referring to. Absolutely no idea and you don't either. Whatever your definition of woke is .....the same issues will be here throughout Trump's administration. He only used it as a wedge issue to get elected. You don't eliminate a culture...one day y'all will wake up. Notice how no one is talking about the so-called woke culture anymore. Do you think the behavior has gone away? Absolutely not but the election is over...If making the most money one can make is the goal...then you probably shouldn't have voted for a party that's against raising the minimum wage, blocked student loan forgiveness, anti-union, and want to give the richest people in the country tax breaks at the expense of Social security and Medicare.
This guy uh uh loves Jeff Goldbloom in Jurassic park
he talks about entitlements....u mean like welfare for working americans to feed their kids...or my mom getting her SS and disability.....the wealthy have more money than they ever have....if anything we need more social safety nets in place...the homeless is rising...affordability of life itself is getting insane....its broken and will continue to get worse...both these two are wealthy to a point where it wont destroy them either way....
SS is a bad entitlement program compared to alternatives like a negative income tax

It’s over for America. Was a good run 🎉
I would ask Richard Hanania if he listens to critics of Musk's plans ot use rockets for intercontinental travel or how Boring company compares to competitors. Has Hanania considered that Musk presents a series of unrealistic propositions that waste money and time that that could go to better options rather than false hopes?
