Most of the rust color on the paint surface can be desolved with Navel Jelly. For those of you who never heard of it , it's that pink slime that was developed by the navy for steel ships. Brush it on thick and cover it with seran wrap to keep it from drying out for 15 minutes then scrub with scotch-bright or steel wool. It's at hardware stores in white bottle.
