From Oral History to Written Story: 3G Authors Discuss Writing and Publishing Their Family Stories

    Join us in discussion with three 3G authors to explore the process of writing and publishing books based on their grandparents’ Holocaust stories. Learn about their relationship with their grandparents, what motivated them to write, and how they embraced their role as 3Gs through the writing and publishing process.
    Featured Authors
    Michelle Weinfeld graduated from the University of Maryland with a Masters in Finance and has gone on to work as a CPA. Passionate about Jewish learning, Weinfeld is a volunteer speaker in 3GNY’s WEDU program. Weinfeld’s love of history and storytelling drove her to write her debut intergenerational memoir, From Generation to Generation, which interweaves her experiences with antisemitism with the story of her grandfather, a Holocaust survivor.
    Brooke Randel is a writer and associate creative director in Chicago. Her writing has been published in Hippocampus, Hypertext Magazine, Jewish Fiction, and elsewhere. She is a prose editor for Chestnut Review and a volunteer speaker in 3GNY’s WEDU program. The granddaughter of a Holocaust survivor, she writes on issues of memory, trauma, family and history. She is currently working on a memoir about her grandma, literacy and the legacy of the Holocaust. Find more of her work at brookerandel.com.
    Rachel Zolotov’s writing journey began after a conversation with her mother about her family history. It didn’t take long for her to realize that she had a story that was worth sharing, and after years of research and writing, The Girl with the Silver Star was born. Rachel has a background in Jewelry and User Experience Design and enjoys being creative. In her free time, you can find her snuggling up with a good book and a cup of tea.
