    As a graduate of UCLA, I cried when UCLA announced that they were leaving the PAC 12, which is a 100 year old institution. Now I am all in with UCLA joining the Big Ten! However, I don’t think that everyone is seeing the whole picture here. My point is that it is not just about media dollars but research dollars that the bigger Big Ten will receive and the coordination of research among Big Ten universities. UCLA and USC will greatly contribute to the Big Ten Academic Alliance. Stanford is the Harvard of the West with a huge endowment and deep research expertise. If the Big Ten can get Stanford and Norte Dame to join the Big Ten, the conference will not only bring in more media dollars to the conference but also a lot more research dollars. If the Big Ten can lure Norte Dame and Stanford, they will not only be premier athletic conference but also the premier academic and research conference. In other words, the Big Ten will not be like the knuckle draggers in the SEC and the Big 12. Look at the whole picture here.

      When all you got is a football team to maintain a university’s reputation, that’s pathetic. Didn’t Forest Gump graduate from Alabama? The Big Ten has athletics AND academics. Also, more television dollars means more exposure, which means better recruits. I would not be so confident to think that Ohio State, Michigan, UCLA, USC, and other Big Ten schools cannot teach Alabama “whose your daddy?!” But since we are talking about Alabama, “whose your daddy?” Is probably a common question. Also, Big Ten universities are modern with running water and toilets, which is questionable in the state of Alabama since it is one of the poorest states in the Union. This UCLA Bruin is bringing over a PAC 12 tradition to the Big Ten, which is that you always root for your university and root for your conference, which is now the Big Ten! Big Ten teams are going to love the Rose Bowl with the San Gabriel Mountains in the background, which is where UCLA plays its football games.

      @@isaachorten10 To loose? What does to loose mean? To LOOSEN would mean to release tension or restraint. So “to loose” (as you say) not only has no meaning it makes zero grammatical sense. Furthermore, TOO LOOSE would imply a bolt or knot that is not fastened properly. TO LOSE (maybe what you meant?) would describe not winning a competitive event. Opportunism would describe beating a team down 17 players, an injured starting QB and no RB. Let’s just say you probably wouldn’t get into Stanford.

    • @eujr4SC
      @eujr4SC 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. But neither does the PAC-12. The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) is a minor conference that was created in the 90s to offer a lot of these sports that only a small percentage of programs offer. So men's & women's water polo, and men's volleyball will stay there. If Stanford and/or Cal were to get an invite the same sports above but also men's & women's fencing, men's gymnastics and even artistic swimming (synchronized) would remain in the MPSF.

      @@trekranger Only 4 teams from the PAC-12 sponsor water polo and they call compete in the MPSF. It’s similar to Ohio State playing mens volleyball in the Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) because no other B1G school sponsors it that I know of. They compete against other teams like Ball State, Lewis, Loyola, and Purdue Fort Wayne. Similar to the 4 big California schools that are in the MPSF that compete against each other and other schools like BYU, Grand Canyon or San Jose State. Similarly Michigan sponsors varsity woman’s water polo and competes in the Collegiate Water Polo Association against teams like Brown, Bucknell, Harvard and Princeton. 9 B1G teams sponsor Club mens and womens water polo and are also associated with the CWPA.

    One thing USC and UCLA need to leave behind is the arrogant attitude. I’ve lived in LA and their disparaging attitude towards the Midwest is suffocatingly smug. We rescued both those universities from financial irrelevance. This is especially generous given the fact they are located in Los Angeles, CA - a city and state which keeps losing youth football programs and domestic population (ie future football recruits).

      You “rescued both those universities from financial irrelevance”? What kind of drugs are you on? The addition of UCLA and USC have increased the Big Ten’s projected media rights value by 60%. Without UCLA and USC, the Big Ten was projected to bring in $1 billion in annual media rights revenue for a distribution of around $70 million per school. Now, with the addition of UCLA and USC, the Big Ten’s projected media rights revenue has exploded to $1.6 billion annually for a distribution of $100 million per Big Ten school. In other words, UCLA and USC are together valued at $600 million per year in the Big Ten and control close to 40% of the Big Ten’s projected market value. Process that. Two schools that represent 12.5% of the Big Ten’s membership will be responsible for almost 40% of the conference’s entire media rights value. Why else do you think every Big Ten AD has stated this was a no brainer decision for them? If anything, the other Big Ten schools should be thanking UCLA and USC, not the other way around. More intelligent people would conclude that this is a mutually beneficial arrangement that maximizes value of all members involved. It is yourself who displays a disparaging attitude of ignorance and smugness towards your new conference brethren. Fortunately, you are an outlier while most Big Ten people have been very kind and welcoming.
