    Hi guys good luck with your project. I'm in the process of doing the same. I just wanted to mention that you need permission to build any permanent structures, and I think yurts may be considered permanent if you have to build a foundation for it, which is typically how they are put up. It also has to be able to be dismantled within half a day.

      Portugal is in the EU and I think we have some water protection laws which make very complicated/impossible to create small scale power plants in streams. Though if its hush hush who's gonna know?

Looking forward to following you on your journey. I would love to hear more about you both. Where are you from originally? Have a great day.

    I have 1 recommendation: If you can, ask the Architect if he has connections with any Landscape Architect. In Portugal it's very common for both to work together in a piece of land like this. Like you might need a L.A. signature if you want to change some of the features of the landscape (example: the lagoon you mentioned)

    Call yourselves a lucky couple: the south of Portugal landscape is brutal and mercilless: the alentejo zone is depressing during summer, everything is spiky and everything is dead, dried or simply dormant. The dominant colours are brown, beije and yellow and there's dust and spiky seeds everywhere. If it werent for the olive and citrus trees, it would look like a site of a nuclear bomb. Alentejo is beautiful in wjnter and spring, but not in summer. And I bought a house in an alentejo village, so I am familiar with the climate and, obviously, I am not complaining, I am happy with my choice.. Good luck to your new life!

    • @OzzPhysicist
      @OzzPhysicist 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I Sandra. I'm Portuguese and I done the same, I bought 12 hectares of land with a big ruin in Alentejo, 10min from Estremoz.
      I don't know how is in your land but for me it's so beautiful during all year. In Spring and Winter is literally a paradise, really. In Summer is still 90% green because it's mostly estevas (rock rose), big pine trees, cork trees, oaks, wild olive trees. All native, all green full year, raw nature, naturally born there. Far from looking dead. Dead and cold is the far north in winter.
      Summer can be too hot some days for some, if you are not prepared but only gets seriously hot in afternoon., pleasant in morning and evening. I'm building there an off-grid cabin with all solar powered air conditioner and it works great because the sun that burns you also powers the AC to cool you. I have an excavator so I made paths to be able to move around so spikes in summer are not a problem
      I love so, so much living there. It's unfortunate you don't feel the same :( I would be delighted to be able to help you on improving your view on your own land. Or if you are close to that region, please feel free to come and visit us :)

      @@OzzPhysicist don't get me wrong, i love alentejo. Otherwise, I would never have bought land here. It's just so happens that my kind of landscape is more similar to Sintra, and It's sad to watch my plants and trees parched and burnt. It's a sad show to watch... We're building earth and trying to create shade in our bare, open garden. The soil is desolate, chalky, filled with rubble. Hardly no nutrients. We are in the beginning stages and it's going to take years to witness the transformation. I am glad you bought a land, too. The countryside needs people like us!

    • @OzzPhysicist
      @OzzPhysicist 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@blueocean2510 I done the bore hole four months ago and is 2km from the main Estremoz aquifer (one of the biggest in Portugal). I asked to drill 100m, but got water starting at 10m! Then so much water came out of the hole but I still kept the 100m target. They estimated at least 5 to 6 m3/h supply rate. That's a lot! I put the pump at just 20m and so far didn't need to movie downwards! Let's see how it is in the end of the year but still the same rate so far. The few people I asked in the region said that water never been a problem for them.

    • @OzzPhysicist
      @OzzPhysicist 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sandracosta29 I'm sure you can transform your land to a far more fertile and beautiful place, I seen people transforming deserts to lush green landscapes using permaculture techniques. Fires here are rare so that's another advantage of Alentejo. People here are also so nice and so willing to help. The least we want is to see big eucalyptus plantations, let's take land in the countryside , plant native trees and protect the existing ones from the ignorance of some people.

    That mushroom was probably edible, not hallucinogenic. If you spend all your time trying to trip, you'll get nothing done and no one willing to pay good money to holiday there will want to visit. Time to grow up now.
