As a 64 year old Londoner, I have seen Dire Straits 6 times in London, once in Dublin, Ireland, and once in Rotterdam, Holland. The band were just outstanding on stage! Mark Knopfler is a perfectionist, both in Guitar styles and lyric writing. This was a great review-reaction piece of this song. I was at this 'Alchemy Tour' concert at the Hammersmith Odeon, London, in 1993 and three days later flew to Dublin to see them at The Point theatre. It was a great experience to see the band preform live. Something I will never forget. This DS Song is based around the 1968 Western film 'Once Upon a Time in the West' directed by Sergio Leon, and the music score was by Ennio Morricone. This is where the imitation 'Flute' sound occurs at the beginning and towards the end of this DS song to emulate Morricone's main film music score. I wish I could post the ticket receipts to prove it to you both. The venue stewards would not allow us to stand during the performances, but I'm somewhere in the audience!! I hope you can get to see Mark Knopfler in concert sometime, he's just amazing to see him play live. Many Thanks for the memories!!🥰🥰
This is not a simply concert, this is pure art, pure simphony, pure feeling on stage. Dire Straits at their best! Mark guitars sound is simply unique, every single note make a million of emotions. Great reaction guys, onece again! Love you so much!
I agree. I just think this band still is underappreciated. I keeping digging into their catalogue, and it transcends music It is just so artfully done and masterfully put together and the virtuosity of the musicians.
One of my favorite Dire Straits songs. I love how it first sounds like an old western story but when you listen to the lyrics, it's really a modern one.
Another great reaction to another epic Dire Straits performance. I love this version. Every song they played that night was gold. Probably my favourite concert of all time. Keep up the great work guys!
My favorite song of all time bar none. Especially this version When I first bought this album I literally had to take a break after each song to let it soak in. Best album ever in my opinion.
Telegraph road from this same concert is the ultimate dire straits song. A 10/10 totally recommended, is like all the styles of dire straits condensed into one beautoful story and melody
Part of the storytelling is his guitar which has an equal voice. His lyrics and voice are amazing and tell an extraordinary story of the not old but present American West. His guitar gives detail, emotion and depth that no singer could ever bring.
I love it when people who have never listened to certain music explore it. And are surprised by how good it is! I am 56. Grew up on this in the 80s. So nice that there is a younger audience that enjoys it too! :) keep up the good work :) Love the smiles. When you hear good music, you know it. And three cheers for the instrumental break. millennials haven't a clue what it is! 🤣 Great job.
Hey, you two. Another wonderful reaction. I love the look on Domenica's face every time you listen to DS, the wonder and the incredulity. Happens to me, too, every time. Onwards to Private Investigations and Calling Elvis (both to be found live in "On the Night, 1993" I think). You won't be disappointed. Warmest regards from Portugal.
Thank you so much for giving love to these amazing Dire Straits songs and performances. The band at this time was amazing and Mark Knopfler is surely one of the greatest guitar players to ever play the instrument
Dire Straits make music that is unique and unmatched imho, every song is a journey. I am also enjoying your discovery of their wonderful music, thanks!
And just in case you don't know, DS (more specifically, Mark) wrote the soundtrack for a fabulous movie called "Local Hero" which plays (mostly) in Scotland and has Burt Lancaster in it. Worth watching and listening. Quite extraordinary.
I have always said that what makes MK so special is that he weaves his solos in with the rest of the band. It's not "listen to me", it's "let me enhance this great music"! Yet, as many have said, he is one of the very few that you know who it is from the very first note.
Hey guys love your reactions as always. This performance is so good. It's one of my favorites along with Calling Elvis and Private Investigations from DIRE STRAITS Live ON THE NIGHT 1993. It's the same concert with the beautiful Brothers In Arms performance you reacted to. Loving your channel. All the best Cheers 😊🎸🎸🎸
I really like you guy's reactions. Always something insightful to say. Back in 1985 I was working in Qatar and my brother sent me the Alchemy double tape. A great analogy comparing this to a fabulous meal, something you don't want to stop. This song was my go to pick on our day off, a Friday, to play in the car as I drove from Doha to the beach across the country at Dukhan. This tune always reminds me of these days which were, unbelievably, nearly 40 years ago
@@davidfeltz8697 I've always been a huge DS fan, but this particular track is now also part of my nightly 'chill out' play list. 😉Fun Fact: Mark is actually left handed, making it all the more impressive that he does what he does whilst FINGER-PLUCKING with his right hand!
Amazing reaction guys! Its really nice to see you enjoying this beautiful song. You definitely hit the nail on the head with your comments - spot on! Their music is really magical and so, so tight. Unfortunately its something that will never be seen again, and that is really sad 😢 Love what you do and keep reacting to a few more straits from time to time 👍
Once upon a time in the West, 1968, had Claudia Cardinale in a role. Like many other female Italian film stars, Claudia Cardinale's entry into the business was by way of a beauty pageant. She was 17 years old and studying at the Centro Sperimentale in Rome when she entered a beauty contest, which resulted in her getting a succession of small film roles. Once Upon a Time in the West (Italian: C'era una volta il West, "Once upon a time (there was) the West") is a 1968 epic spaghetti Western film directed by Sergio Leone, who co-wrote it with Sergio Donati based on a story by Dario Argento, Bernardo Bertolucci and Leone. It stars Henry Fonda, cast against type as the villain, Charles Bronson as his nemesis, Jason Robards as a bandit and Claudia Cardinale as a newly widowed homesteader. The widescreen cinematography was by Tonino Delli Colli and the acclaimed film score was by Ennio Morricone. Wikipedia plus.

Dire Straits are my favourite band, and you are my favourite reactors! I would love to see your reaction to their live version of Ride Across the River from 1986. It is just as chilled as this one. All the best.

He’s also a beautiful singer/songwriter/wordsmith/lyricist, composer, & producer. .To say MK is ‘underrated’ is just your opinion, but I’m assuming you’re referring to the lack of input from the greedy little world of pop music, Rolling Stone and other out of touch so-called music aficionados, whose accolades I’m not sure MK is interested in. (e.g. He did not to show up with his previous band mates at the DS induction to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2018). However, I feel ‘underrated’ kind of undermines MK’s actual decades long accomplishments. He has a long list of awards and honors with and apart from DS (but as someone who loves success, but decries fame, he is both humble and self deprecating so doesn’t really draw attention to these). He has been praised in endless formats by a great many of his professional peers, including his accomplished band mates/musicians. Nice reaction guys, for me the greatest concert I've listened to. Every song is a masterpiece. You can even now just go to the second song, Expresso Love, little known but so powerful. Today is Mark's 74th birthday, one of the greatest musical minds of our generation.

1983?
The fact Mark Knopfler was ranked around 75th in The Rolling Stone top 500 guitarists of all-time last year is just criminal.
Rolling stone mag is a joke
Everyone knows he is Top 10 and to me he is in second behind Jimi.
they didnt even include Gary moore, piss takers
Well said couldn't agree more
Indeed.
His solos aren't just solos in like so many other songs, they're part of the fabric of the song .. I love it
So true. Well put. He is always adding licks to accentuate his words or create a sound picket with his band members. Amazing!
One of the best bands ever! They were totally unique and there was nothing else like them….. and their musicianship is absolutely top notch!
It's liquid gold every single note that comes out of that fucking guitar
