The funniest thing to me about Sansa's plot this season is that Season 1 Sansa would unironically have been more competent than Season 6 Sansa at retaking Winterfell, because she'd have accepted the offer of a large army immediately rather than fancying that she could do it herself and then getting conclusively proven wrong.

but then what? the battle at the end of the season would be absurdly easy and anticlimactic. so by this army existing at all, theyve written themselves into a corner.

@@godemperorofmankind3.091 I don’t think so. If Ramsey got wind that the vale’s army was joining Jon he would have never left Winterfell. Jon would have to surround the castle and somehow breach the walls with archers picking them off one by one. In addition, this house also betrayed his family and killed her brother and wife in the most terrible way. Littlefinger seems he kind of forgot about this very important information. Btw Ramsay Bolton's atrocities is known by a lot of lords in the North. Littlefinger also in the book, is most knowledgeable man about lords in Westeros. He sold key of the North (Sansa was last member of Starks except Bran and Rickon, thus his husband will be protector of the North) for only some golds to Boltons whose power in the North is temporary. Until season 5, Littlefinger gained firstly Harrenhal and then Vale by killing Lysa Tully, now He can gain North by marrying Sansa in 3 years. Protector of North and Vale would be stronger candidate to Throne than Cersei on the King's Landing who has only House Lannister support. One of the most striking things between the early seasons and the late ones is how boring the costume design becomes. There used to be a shit ton of personality to what everyone wore, but by the end it was all just variations of black and brown and maybe a little red or white. Still impeccably crafted. But boring. Or just completely anachronistic.

The show clearly only thinks there are four houses, which is why despite not being relevant for almost the entire plot the Baratheons get 4th billing on the logo instead of being swapped for a house with living members like the Tyrells, Martells, Freys, Greyjoys, or Boltons each season. There are 3 houses: ice boys, fire girls and villains.

Thanks for posting that; I’ve never encountered the expression “ broke immersion for me” and I’ve been trying to describe it, because it became such a common event in watching GoT.
One of the worst ‘broke immersion’ moments for me was seeing Dany’s hand reaching a final time for the Iron Throne and everything being ‘broken’ by her perfectly American-style polished and manicured fingernails. I wonder if many men noticed her anachronistic nails, but I’ll bet a lot of other women did.

My husband never read the books and still hasn't but he asked what a Kingsmoot was so we paused the show and I carefully explained everything that was about to go down. I told him about the offerings and the great lords and the kings on their ships. Fuck, we took a break to have dinner before we resumed the show.
      None of that happened.
First, he couldn't figure out why the Kraken was everywhere even though there were only 3 of them. Then he got real confused when they said the Ironborn never made their mark. Me explaining the Ironborn and Harrenhal and their complete dominion over the sea had my husband so hooked, he almost read the books.

The first 4 seasons had costumes reminiscent of actual medieval fashion with a GOT twist (which made them much better, because medieval clothes weren't that pretty). But from season 5 onwards nothing looked "medieval", except maybe the men's clothes because they all lowkey dressed the same. Daenerys' season 8 outfits were pretty but far too Star Wars-y like you said. Rhaenyra's outfit in episode 10 is the perfect example of how a queen would be dressed for a war council meeting in a GOT setting, none of Dany or Sansa's outfits gave me that impression.

It gives off vibes similar to reading a Wikipedia plot synopsis and recreating the scene just off of those few sentences. GRRM's version will at the very least make sense and have a point. The whole Vale army thing is an example of using story (and I use the term loosely) to serve the drama, rather than using drama to serve the story. TH-camr, The Dragon Demands, has pointed out that by this point out they were writing to serve the actors, not the characters or story. It was about showing them emote on screen rather than anything that made logical sense. They needed Kit Harrington to show his "Oh Crap!" face, so Jon can't know about the Vale army.

Littlefingers plan wasnt so bad. He gave Roose Sansa to then strike deal with Cersei (who represents the crown) to make him warden of the north. Then he undermined Cersei to Olenna so that Tyrells (or at least easily controlled Tommen) would be on top, so when he reclaims Winterfell, they honor his deal with the crown AND they dont have problem with Sansa being alive (which Cersei would have).

    • @olenickel6013
      @olenickel6013 2 ปีที่แล้ว +26

That feels more like a Doran Martell plot. Overly complicated, too many moving parts and points of potential failure. Littlefinger was always more about creating conflict and chaos, then improvising to exploit the opportunities that arise for him.

    • @bethperforms6191
      @bethperforms6191 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

But what if Stannis takes Winterfell? I’ve never understood that part. No deal with him about being Warden of the North. And maybe Cersei wants Sansa alive. Isn’t she still technically married to a Lannister? He IS a kinslaying Lannister, of course. But if the marriage is valid, then doesn’t that make a Lannister lord of Winterfell? Does Tyrion factor into all of this?
Anyway, let’s say that the point is for Petyr to look like an ally/hero by getting the Boltons out of Winterfell-even though (mua ha ha) the only reason the Boltons are truly *in* Winterfell with their claim to the North solidified with a marriage to Sansa is because of Littlefinger in the first place. How would that scenario play out if Petyr actually thinks Stannis is going to be the one to chuck the Boltons out? If Stannis succeeds, why does Petyr think that anyone (Tyrells, Tommen, Cersei, whoever) would honor his “deal”? He didn’t reclaim Winterfell, and now Stannis (their enemy) is more powerful/the one needing to be chucked out. Chaos may be a ladder, but…I guess I’d buy that element more if he were setting up *others’* fates to depend on what shakes out in Winterfell-not his own. I suppose I am assuming he actually does want to marry Sansa-but I guess if we’re going by what he *does* rather than what he *says* (since he lies all the time), then, according to the show, he really doesn’t want to marry her…?
Of course, we know in the books that Petyr did NOT hand Sansa over to the Boltons, which suggests that he *is* aware of how insane Ramsay is and he *is* holding on to Sansa for some other purpose. And book or no book, seasons 1-4 Petyr would do his research. No question. So I think we’re left to assume in show-world that Petyr was fully aware that Ramsay was a monster and thus is Sansa’s enemy, maybe trying to pull some Freudian-ish revenge on Catelyn by making Sansa suffer. But that doesn’t add up. Or at least go anywhere. Which you’d think it would, as kind of a big deal in Petyr’s character arc.
I don’t know. None of it ultimately makes any sense to me-unless we assume that the show just conveniently made Petyr dumber to justify the Sansa-Ramsay marriage. Which is what I think happened.

I am sorry, but that sounds like a bs excuse. There is a difference between promoting a product that you just didn't try out and a promoting a product you know is falsely advertised and then still advertise for it. I mean, if you are already at the stage where you have to take deals where you KNOW you are doing false advertisement then maybe it's a moment to think about changing your job. Not to mention that once it comes out you are knwingly doing false advertisements, the damage dealt will be larger then the money you make from it. It is quite naive if you ask me. Because the only reason content creators get the offer in the first place is that the companies want to take advantage of the relationship between content creator and viewer. After all, a lot of people believe a content creator more easily than a standard ad person (which isn't a new concept since celebreties were used long before TH-cam was a thing to promote products). The moment this comes out, either the companies know that your viewers don't believe you anyway, so they don't have a reason to approach you or they see that the viewers lost their trust in you which means they don't have a reason to approach you. It's a bad decision no matter how you look at it. Also, just to mention this here, but false advertisement is illegal in a lot of countries. This isn't so much of a problem for whatever company is behind the website (because god knows where that one is stationed), but good luck for TH-cam to turn a blind eye on that if they ever find out.

So it was possible that this reveal was indeed attended by GRR Martin but through a lack of build up/ hints to that moment, the show runners didn't set up the mistery surrounding Hodor.

I have a decent theory about how Petyr acquired the jetpacks.
If you were to ask me what in the dragonshow resembles jetpacks, I'd be an idiot to not say dragons. So let's imagine that the jetpack are somewhat linked to dragons.
So we know that there were 3 dragon eggs in Braavos from Elissa Farman (now you might say that's only book stuff, and not even main books at that, and to that I say that it was never stated that it didn't happen in the show, so for all we know it might have happened.), and we know that Petyr's grandfather was from Braavos.
Now this grandpa Baelish guy ends up becoming a knight and then a lord. How does this random foreign sellsword become a lord? Perhaps because he had something extremely valuable? Such as dragon eggs?
But this guy wasn't nearly as genius as his grandson, so couldn't do much with the eggs, so he just left it alone. But Petyr, having one of the largest brains in the multiverse, was able to perform some magic on the eggs, and he managed to hatch them.
But since he isn't a Targaryen, he wasn't able get fully grown dragons. Instead, the result was like miniature, partially-functioning dragons, that we know as jetpacks.

Great video, can't get enough of shitting on got xd.
One thing to mention is that when Petyr gives Sansa to Boltons (because reasons) he is activlly giving some of his positions away, basically all titles he got from Lannisters should have been stripped since Sansa is at the time a fugative accused of regicide. Petyr (real one not this imposter) has zero reasons to get Starks back to power, because they will take his position of warden of Riverlands (he got this with Harrenhall, since Tullies were taken their claims (or at least this happens in a book). So having admitted that he aided her would be seen as a treason in the eyes of Cersei, or anyone really. Boltons even make public wedding and d&d just made it so Cersei did not hear about it or did not care.
What they did here is merge to stories that could not be merged, since in books Sansa is about to try and woo Harry the heir (of Vale), next in line after Robert who will probably die soon, and her friend who Petyr enslave and tortured into obidient whore, Jayne (same age as Arya so they just say it is her9 is give to Boltons. This is how Petyr secures friendship with Lion and Boltons while keeping knowladge of this fake Arya and a better claim on winterfell. In the books Petyr is working towards total domination, that dude literally have 4 kingdoms out of 7. He can just betray Tyrells after they kill Lannisters and allies with Dorne, 4 out of 5. He has a legit chance of aiming for a king position.
In the show he thorws it all away for an alligance that would never happen (bcs Boltons and Freys would remain on Lannister side due to better spoils and armies (Petyr game must be slow, even if he has 4 kingdoms on paper, they are currently not all his and those who has armies are not yet 100% loyal to him)), he throws it all away for a council position in the Winterfell by basically selling a Stark to slavery... yeah how would that go wrong.

There are reasons why Breaking Bad is still praised as the best show of all time while GoT got thrashed to shits.
      1. The showrunners of BB had passion and planned the ending *right before* they started shooting the pilot. And once the fans started guessing the ending correctly, Vince didn’t change it for the sake of subverting expectations.
      2. BB (and BCS) are the show of smart characters outsmarting each other. When certain smart characters died, they died in a very believable way. Meanwhile, in GoT, the once smart characters turned into the dumbest one whenever the plot demands it.
      3. The plot armor in BB had a great setup and suits the circumstance. For example, (Spoilers alert) Hank survived the shootout in season 3 because his enemy is known to into theatrics so they didn’t finish him instantly. They tried to kill him in the fanciest way possible. That’s how Hank used that to his advantage. In GoT, the plot armor is inconsistent. Red Wedding and Ned’s execution are the best case of realistic writing and then we got “the Long Night” that cut the scenes every time the main characters were in danger, then once it cuts back, they were fine. And there’s no character who has a thinker plot armor than Arya Stark and all those bullshits happened because D&D were fond of Maisie Williams and “strong female character” agenda so they made her survived everything that used to kill other characters (for example, Arya can get shanked and swam in a dirty water and she could be just fine while Talisa Stark got shanked and died or Khal Drogo died because of the infected wound despite the wound was far smaller than Arya’s’) and stole a meaningful payoff from Jon.
      4. Speaking of female characters. Even though Skyler is one of the most hated characters in BB franchise, she is the real strong female character. She has deep flaws and insecurities but the reason she’s strong because she is a well-written character. They are many moments that she is annoying but once we reached BB season 5, we just feel sorry for her because we understand her motive and how she wants to protect her family from Walt. Vince Gilligan made Skyler be able to stand on her own without bringing her surrounding characters down to make her smarter. And there’s Kim Wexler. She is one of the best female lead of every TV show and even in a scene that the show needs to bring another character down to make her seem smarter, the show did it in a very believable way. (Spoiler alert for BCS) Saul Goodman is known to be an extremely smart lawyer who can talk himself out of any situation but in penultimate episode of season 5, he couldn’t talk himself out of the dangerous situation because he witnessed a cartel shootout and had a PTSD so he was frozen when a cartel leader walked into his home so Kim had to stand up and talk the situation out herself. GoT, however, never gave a believable reason to dumb the other characters down to prop up “strong female characters” like Sansa and Arya so it ruined the experience of the show completely. Tyrion became stupid. Jon got to do nothing and Dany went mad in order to make Sansa and Arya the smarter and more moral heroes.
      5. The character development. BB spent 5 seasons in turning Walter White from a kind cancer patient into an evil megalomaniacal meth kingpin. Whenever he did evil things in the final season, it never seems out of character because the show took time for his growth. Daenerys, on the other hand, went from an altruistic hero into a psychopath in the range of just 2 episodes. D&D kept making an excuse that “it was setup since season 1 when Viserys died” except that Dany spent years after that NOT to be like her own mad father and brother and she was sane during the Long Night. And Jaime Lannister, his entire development was ruined by a single dialogue about how he didn’t give a shit about innocent civilians. GoT really did these amazing characters dirty. Glad that Tywin and Robb died when the show used to have a great writing.

I remember at the time this aired a lot of people (by which I mean /tv/) assumed the kingsmoot was a godawful 2016 election reference (Euron being Trump and Yara being Clinton)
But looking at the timeline of 6's production vs the timeline of the election it seems pretty dubious
If it is true it's definitely a sign of the writers starting to care more about signaling to future employers than about their award winning show

    • @TemariNaraannaschatz

I mean they screwed up the Ironborn from the beginnin, aside from the fact that they aren't portrayed as the threat they are, they cut out too much at the beginning. Unlike season 1, during season 2 book 5 was out, so they knew that Victarion and Euron and Aeron were going to be important later and they still cut them, which lead to Yara becoming a mix of Vic, Aeron and Asha in the later seasons. They cut 2 pov characters out and had no plan on how to make that work later, because you can successfully cut and substitute things, but obviously not the way it happend here.
In contrast they didn't have the budget for Tyrion on the battlefield in season 1, so he got knocked out, but we have 2 other scenes with Tyrion fighting to substitute for that.
And while I think Vargo Hoat would have been a lot better than Locke: he was still written in a way that worked with the rest of the world and he wasn't an obvious insert by the showrunners.

I agree there should have been more story with house Manderly. That would have given so many plotpoints, like how Jon and Sansa deal with Wyman who is super loyal for the Starksand thus Jon and SanSan have to think are they really worthy Stark name. There could have been plot for securing Wyman heir. So when heir is safe / or our heroes somehow save or make a deal for him Old Wyman would be safe to do some heroic sacrifise of his life.
He could do discount Freypie / siege of Wintefell plot where he would feign alligience for Boltons and end up turning on them. Or attacking Boltons to draw them south or just joining the battle.
That would together with young lady Mormont tell the story how deep the loyalty of North runs for Starks. And give chance for some great secondary charecters with Wyman and maybe his heir that could carry to next seasons. How cool it would be to have Wyman or Wylis to join scenes with making the King in the north, debating how Jon bended the knee and fighting the others. ( Great possibility to have more named charecters die in the battle.
