    This series is so nice. There are already channels with lambos and ferraris and they're good. But I feel like many people can better relate to projects like this.

    I once set off a fire extinguisher in a customer’s car because it was one of those electronically valves ones with a button on the dash, which I thought was the starter button. He was a lot less amused than my boss.

      Once queued up to sit in a Jaguar XJ220 but someone ahead of me caught the halon release lever as they got out the car and that was that !

      An electrically operated extinguisher doesn't strike me as the best idea in terms of reliability. Not much can go wrong with a bowden cable.

      @@ferrumignis there have been too many cases of important safety features failing or not setting off purely due to electronic failure, especially brakes and fire suppression, using fly by wire for somethings should be made illegal, its a serious safety hazard

    I know they are clearly marked with stickers, but one of the most common stories marshals tell is in the 'heat' of battle forgetting that E doesn't stand for Electrics. If I were you, I'd write FIRE on the handle in sharpie :)

      Actually in the history of racing, lots of teams have gone to extreme lengths to cheat on performance when the stakes were high. A lot of rules came about as a result of restricting such things.

    Pro tip - Use a red solo cup on the oil filter once you've loosened it to both grab it, and catch all oil that falls out of it while unscrewing to keep oil off your hands. Little trick I picked up while owning an EJ255 Subaru!

    This series is inspiring, not to say addictive. Just got the cutoff switches and fire extinguisher set up made up (with a few extra brackets) for my racer. Which is a horse, and darn difficult to weld to..

    For the hood pin install, instead of nicely marking the inside of the hood like that, I will install the pin on the chassis then just drop the hood on it make a nice dent to drill out :D

      I have a friend that clearanced his hood for an engine swap the same way. The V6 came out alright, and the V8 fit between the fenders just fine. It wasn't until it was all hooked up and running that we realized we needed a little more room right ..... HERE! (bang) and it fit perfectly ever since.

      @@JunkmailAccount; It is subjective as it depends what you are in to. For me this represents the best in English innuendo humour! Coupled with creative engineering and restoration. The rest for me are about revamping the old kit and integrating new technology. You just have to decide on your own. But this channel I pause and cook and eat my dinner or wait until I have the appropriate time to devote to watching uninterrupted! Nuff said really!

    "Bunch" is the SAE unit of measurement for stiffness, not the SI unit. "Beaucoup" is the word you looking for.

    I once worked on a Cooper S in 1970 as an apprentice mechanic. The engine was built and sealed by a "firm" in Blackpool. It was driven by Iain Tweedy in the British RAC rally. I got a go in it with a temporary 850 engine in it and brakes as hard as a whores heart. Still loved it. It was Scotland blue with a Saltire on the roof. I can still remember it clear as a bell.

      That's why I don't race. I very much thought that I wanted to until I realized I would spend more than $10k for the privilege of occasionally driving a no-longer-legal-or-comfortable E36 around the state on a trailer and sometimes tracks.
      I figured the same money is better spent on a nice-ish car that I can drive whenever instead. Such is life, I suppose. I did really want that race car, though.

      @@smartin2174 The Austin Metro very nearly did have plastic wheels. The idea was rejected fairly late in the development by the lawyers as it was difficult to assess damage caused by impact.

      A good friend of mine "helped" me install some suspension components by shearing a bolt in the a-arm that we needed for a critical bracket.
      Drill and tap or weld back together?
      Captive bolt.

    Since stiffness is generally recognised as the product of the member's young's modulus (pascal or N/m^2) and its second moment of inertia (m^4) one may postulate that the resulting SI unit is Nm^2 (newton square metres) but that's a mouthful so I agree, let's just stick with "a bunch"

    I am afraid you are mistaken Mr Brunning. It is a well know fact that the (ctrl-i) Système international (ctrl-i) unit of measurement of 'Bunch' is the collective term for some Bradys (ie. 6 or 8 Bradys depending on your point of view)
    As for adding a bunch of stiffness, Marcia Brady immediately comes to mind

      Done both and yes, slow car fast in anger is definitely the challenge. Maintaining momentum over a whole course is not as easy as mashing the go pedal at the right apex point to launch down the next straight. You have to use the whole course in mind, as long as those clods around you aren't getting underfoot. *_;-D_*

    Can't blame you for asking about moving the factory airbox to the boot floor. I remember a time in Australia where cars had to retain all their options - including a/c - so some competitors had the a/c compressor and condenser bolted down in the passenger-side footwell.

    Wondering how many young people will even know what the series title refers to: Bargain Basement. There aren't many bargain basement sales any more. I went to one when I was young, maybe around 1970~ish. It was in the basement of Sears. That's how we could afford a washer & dryer. They were "scratch & dent" sales! 😅

    To put the airbag lamp out try using 501 gapless bulbs and straighten the tabs and fit to the connectors. Airbag resistance is around about 3 ohms as is the 501 bulbs and should put the airbag lamp out. Hope this helps👍 keep up the good work lads!

    @ 15:50 If you needed more space for the rear coil over springs, you could flip the bolts so the heads are on the outside, giving plenty of clearance for the spring. May have to get creative with sneaking the bolts around the coil overs, though.
