it's a diesel, therefore the "horsepower" is actually somewhat misleading; the output torque would be considerably greater than a 100HP petrol engine and at a much lower rpm range.
It's a truck engine, they don't need high HP's. HP is only good for top speed. A truck needs to be able to go just over speed limit at full weight. Torque is where it's at in that case.
you mean; sickening to the stomach? That's a horrendous piece or engineering garbage. They're better off sourcing an old Cummins from a DAF or something.

@@cambridgemart2075 I think (maybe wrong) that the aluminium crankcase was specific to the minesweepers, less likely to trigger magnetically triggered mines.
I'm reasonably sure I actually have one of those in my toolbox here. I mean, I know I have a set of ½"-drive metric sockets, I'm just not sure if they go that small. :)
@@denisl2760 Generally when people say a metric size they mean the size of the head, a six mil bolt head usually the reserve of hose clamps and other small things where normally a quarter inch or 3/8 socket would be better just to limit the torque. Of course doesn't really account for long handled ratchets, power tools etc.
@@lemagreengreen I don't know about the layman's terms, but in a professional environment the proper term for a bolt with a diameter of 6mm and a head of 10mm is "M6". Also the size of the drive end is not what limits the torque, the length of the ratchet handle is. You can easily adjust for that by gripping the ratchet closer to the head.
@@denisl2760 I think he was working on a Jubilee clip witha 6mm head. You're right that the M6 thing refers to the diameter of the bolt, but in practice people typically use the socket size when they are working with nuts/bolts. :)

Cummins 6bt p-pump diesel highly reccomended best diesel engine ever built!
I LOVE and I really mean LOVE the binky series, but watching you guys work on something different is also fucking amazing!
I'm having a cup of tea while watching this in your honor. I love this channel. Keep up the good work.
You don’t shy away from work at all! I thoroughly enjoy you two men.
Jeezus! That front suspension bears all the sophistication of a 19th century wheelbarrow. I saw the raw sewage in the radiator - never thought of that. I'll have to give it a try on one of those hot, stagnant days.
6L 100hp?
You could fit more actual horses in that space and get more HP
it's a diesel, therefore the "horsepower" is actually somewhat misleading; the output torque would be considerably greater than a 100HP petrol engine and at a much lower rpm range.
It'd probably roll around the clock five times before it's even worn in properly though.
It's a truck engine, they don't need high HP's.
HP is only good for top speed. A truck needs to be able to go just over speed limit at full weight.
Torque is where it's at in that case.
It is a non turbo pig tho so probably dead as sin. Cummins 6bt they need squeezed in there 👌
... and the combined horses weight would be lighter stil LOL!
Please put that V10 diesel out of an old VW Toureg in it! That would be sick
you mean; sickening to the stomach? That's a horrendous piece or engineering garbage. They're better off sourcing an old Cummins from a DAF or something.
500HP Freightliner engine?
@@STRGHTSXBNZ good luck finding one that hasn't put its DAF on fire
Replacing the subframe bushings in my Nissan was harder than that. What automotive god are you sacrificing virgins to for your good fortune?
The Temple of Tea
as it was a library truck it prob had a lot of sitting about and mostly used in summer, no winter salt rust, plenty maint' and not as many miles/year as most trucks.
if only my old isuzu had been like this, it would not have taken me two hours for each bolt
I'm incredibly surprised how easily that heap of rust came apart. That's some serious black magic.
What they didn't tell you is that they originally found it sitting in a 3ft deep pool of penetrating oil.
It's voodoo guys. Has to be. They're transferring all the difficult nuts, bolts and fasteners to the viewers who watch them.
Another half an hour of glued to the screen entertainment, well done again chaps !!!
So I have to say that watching your projects and seeing you guys interact, makes me feel like there are some "normal" people out there still. I deal with so many people day in and day out that I feel the population is going to shit. You seem like down to earth, "Do it the hard way because its the right way" kind of guys that I wouldnt mind being friends with. Its refreshing to see dry humor and knuckle scraping hard work with a shitload of intelligent engineering sprinkled in. Good job fellas, keep it coming.
Thank you Ralph.
I've been thinking since the start that the engine needs to go. An aluminium Napier Deltic (as used in minesweepers) should do nicely.
@984francis And trains, don't forget trains!
@@cambridgemart2075 I think (maybe wrong) that the aluminium crankcase was specific to the minesweepers, less likely to trigger magnetically triggered mines.
Ah hell, who am I kidding? I'll give a like before I even watch. It's inevitable anyway.
Half inch drive 6mm 😂
Caught my old man doing exactly that recently, refuses to use anything other than a half inch ratchet.
I'm reasonably sure I actually have one of those in my toolbox here. I mean, I know I have a set of ½"-drive metric sockets, I'm just not sure if they go that small. :)
An M6 bolt (which I believe you're talking about, could be wrong) uses a 10mm socket. Most half inch drive socket sets do go down that small.
Just a note to say we appreciate the effort it took to get all those camera angles and shots despite how much it must have slowed you down.
I thought the only 2 crusty old nuts were the 2 undoing the nuts and bolts. Keep up the great work - excellent as usual.
Eating my sammich whilst listening two grown men grunting & moaning @ the cafe...... Nice job old chaps!
Haha, the references were outstanding again in this one :D "First ... jack up your truck." That one hat me laughing out loud :D
And, you two don't need to be in a boyband at all, in order to get lucky so many times in a row!
Even with the penetrating fluid...
Weather in the isles and all, this unit was decently well taken care of. Certainly better condition than anything i've seen of the similar age across the continent. Only recently we were inspecting for purchase a few similar Fords and some of the nut-ware was so rusted, it was merely a suggestion of a nut. So much so that the evaluator thought it was a riveted frame.
I have been a mechanic for forty five years. You guys are awesome. I would have bet money the spring bolts would be removed with a torch. Or maybe you would have gotten lucky and burned the whole thing to the ground. Keep going
Omg, hahaha!!! All that hammering noise! After watching you guys working from the Binky to The Escargot, this is so much more fun on another level, thanks for keeping us entertained guys.... Feb 2021
