This is what's been taking so long, and it's _still_ not done, in that they've decided to put that aside and put the focus of the next episode, whenever that is, on something entirely different, just to get _something_ out.

    Just genius. Watching Binky has inspired me to get braver about the parts of my build that I attempt myself. The most important part of that has been the willingness to try and fail, over and over, and to look on that as a learning experience and a chance to make the car work better. Your honesty about the million small failures that have made Binky such a triumph says so much about you both and, I suspect, has a lot to do with the ferocious, lunatic loyalty of your audience. • @akersjon278
      @akersjon278 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SianaGearz It's a truly ingenious way to increase the travel of the linkage going in to the clutch cylinder without increasing the angle of that linkage so much that it starts to bind up, whilst at the same time not requiring any more travel of the pedal as there is no room to do so, and in addition increasing the force multiplying effect of that short pedal travel so that the amount of pressure needed on it to actuate the clutch stays within a usable range for the driver. All this was achieved by using a very clever double lever action that was made so compact that it still could mount in the same position in the pedal assembly. As previously stated, a truly ingenious piece of kit (especially since it was engineered by two complete spanners in the middle of Shropshire😉)...

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@akersjon278 I still don't understand it. If you must achieve some particular force at the end of the travel going into the cylinder, then the force required at the pedal should depend purely on the amount of pedal travel, no? Like you need 2000N, your piston travel overall is let's say 10mm, and your pedal travel is let's say 100mm, you're always going to apply 200N at the end of the travel on the pedal. Your minimum piston travel that you need to achieve is fixed. Your maximum pedal travel that you have room for in the vehicle is as well. The piston force that you need to be able to apply at the end of the travel is fixed as well.
      That is if the linkage is linear.
      But i can't decide whether it is or isn't linear, i can't really see where much nonlinearity would come from. A nonlinear linkage appears to be of advantage, since at first the clutch spring offers relatively little pushback, but more so as you push the cylinder further in. So you could have a different pedal ratio that at first provides a lot of piston movement for little pedal movement for little mechanical advantage, and then at the end of the travel little piston movement for a larger pedal movement a lot of mechanical advantage, which would allow you long piston travel and redistribute the force that you need to keep applying.

    • @akersjon278
      @akersjon278 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SianaGearz Well now, this escalated fast. The two lever actions that are now in place between the pedal and the linkage going in to the cylinder increases both linkage travel and force without requiring any more travel length of the actual pedal. I'm pretty sure this is not linear force though as levers require more pressure at the beginning of their travel then they do at the end, so you get more force for the same amount of pedal pressure near the end of its travel. I'm not (as is clearly evident by my posting here) a mechanical engineer, but I think that is how it works... And now I need to take an Aspirin.
      If any actual engineers read this, please feel free to jump in and tell me if I'm right or not... (but be nice about it, would you please...)😁
