I've gotta say how you explain the mods is fantastic; clear, funny of course and insightful. It makes this the best behind the scenes race series on YT.
I will always remember this track for Chris Harris' hoonage of the F40 & F50. Such a beautiful scenery for a racetrack. PS: My first thought to not welding "Well... Bracket time....?!" - not disappointed at all.
The Dutch volvo 360 cup used to allow you to drill holes further out on the subframe to gain some negative camber. That's not welding now is it.. They also allowed welding a washer on afterward to make it safe, but I just thought I'd put this out there. You're a creative lot.
Found this series purely by accident! I've now just sat & watched every episode! More! I need more content! I love the sense of humour, the how to guides & seeing the racing. Fingers crossed I can get to a circuit in 2021 to watch you guys! LOVE IT!
There has been a terrific amount of brackets being produced during this episode! I particularly liked the ones which bolted into the original seat belt mountings and onto the roll cage and the one which closed in the rear axle, masterpieces of design and fabrication artistry!

I met a guy who was a tech inspector for the spec Honda Civic series over here in Canada many years ago. As I too love to read & study the rule book to figure out every angle to gain an edge, I was interested to hear what this gentleman had to say about what competitors did to "skirt" the rules. One thing I remember is that they artificially aged the strut caps with ozone ( don't ask how this was done, but this is what I was told). The original rubber in the strut caps would get very hard, reducing the the "give" & therefore making the suspension more predictable. Another trick they did was to pack their shocks in dry ice & swap them out right before a session. The shocks would get much stiffer for several laps, which would give you an initial advantage. I'm very curious how your current mods will change your lap times & race standings. Love the channel & all of your endeavors.
Loving this series... especially the "join us next week" bit. Still cant believe it... expecting to wait 3 years and 4 days for the next episode like Binky but no! It really is next week!!!! WOW!

Here in the States in SCCA Club Racing we refer to your rules reading as “IIDSYCYC”, which is “If It Doesn’t Say You Can You Can’t.” However, most don’t realize the corollary to that is “IIDSYCYBWS”, which means “If It Doesn’t Say You Can’t You Bloody Well Should.” Welcome to the development cycle of racing. In a tight rules controlled series (here it would be Spec Miata, where I race) one spends all of one’s time exploring the grey areas and maximizing car set up and prep.
One thing you can do to stiffen a chassis (depending on the wording of the regulations ) is to spray some closed cell fire retardant construction foam into every suitable cavity. You can even make some suitable cavities by riveting some aluminium sheet to the floor and ceiling with a gap of about half an inch between and spraying the foam in between. It has the added benefit of heat shielding and sound deadening for very little weight gain. Doing this can make a floppy sock as stiff as a board.
@10:29 The USB port is upside-down. It will work fine, it just bugs me. Most USB plugs have a USB logo/icon on one side, for ease of use that side should be on top.
I absolutely love the fact you didn't just go like "meh, if we can't weld onto the chassis, it's not even worth it to try with brackets and screws" and did it. It was really good seeing you testing it somehow too, scientifically with the jack, and not just say "yeah, we bolted them together, it's better, bye". Really my kind of entertainment these parts are!
When I was building rally cars we used to reduce nuts and bolt heads in half, and saw off the excess thread off. We also used a lot of Allen bolts. On the Anglies we removed the dynamo internals as the regs said it had to be fitted but didn't say anything about charging the battery so we always run with a fully charged battery every race.
initially I was wondering how much lightness you are allowed to add. then I remembered there is some kind of weight box for the series, so there must be a max for the amount of lightness you can add. still raises the question: have you maxed it out?

Hopefully your wife didn't kill some poor sod then bugger off back home !
Project binky is a superb wonder of ingenuity but this series is just as great. I'm learning a lot. BOM for the win!
You boys are spoiling us with these weekly episodes..... not complaining at all 😋. Awesome episode chaps. Keep it coming 😋😂
Nice one, rules are made to be tested, it's just a case of finding how far they bend until you hit that yield point.
The rear axle isn’t going to bend so much anymore ;)
Found this series purely by accident! I've now just sat & watched every episode! More! I need more content! I love the sense of humour, the how to guides & seeing the racing. Fingers crossed I can get to a circuit in 2021 to watch you guys!
LOVE IT!
6 weekly videos in a row from BOM?! That has to be a new Guinness world record! 😂😁
And they will go on... Seeya next week. :)
There has been a terrific amount of brackets being produced during this episode!
I particularly liked the ones which bolted into the original seat belt mountings and onto the roll cage and the one which closed in the rear axle, masterpieces of design and fabrication artistry!
The funk is back. Gotta love some brackets
Love reading the comments as they are clever and funny like the 2 fellas running this channel. This is by far the best car channel on youtube where you can't watch an episode without learning something new! Can't wait to see the progress on the mini and excargot😉
You are the reason why I'm in this TH-cam channel business !!! thank you very much for another awesome video 🥰🥰🥰👍
Thanks for all the entertaining video's. You all make me smile so much dimples appear!
I just love it when he says:
"So join us next week..."
Aaand we got the funk out, the noise, and brackets. I'm a happy bunny now.
Absolutely love the way you guys continually think outside the box. “Don’t break the rules, just bend them to suit.”
"Washer of indeterminate thickness." Is this a D&D character?
Loving this series... especially the "join us next week" bit. Still cant believe it... expecting to wait 3 years and 4 days for the next episode like Binky but no! It really is next week!!!! WOW!
What a pleasant surprise. Just in time to sit down and watch with a beer and the burger I’ve made.
I was part of a race team for supermono racing (motorcycles). We didnt have a single unmodified bolt on the bike, they were all modified to shave as much weight as possible. Seeing that bolt being modified brought back memories.
Ah hahahahah... the moment the rules were being read I was thinking 'nothing mentioned about bolted bracing'. Spot on!
Also, 'far from optimal'? I can read your lips ;)
It's those little humorous touches that really makes this channel for me :D
Seeing you guys working hard, being creative, struggling, succeeding is about 10 times more exciting than watching F1. Its also very inspiring!
11:20 lmao that was excellent, did not see that coming. I can't let you do that, Dave.
Exactly - believe not many knew what it was!

Yay, the Funk is back! Thanks guys!
Does your merchandise include "Get the funk out CD 's"?
Add more weight and carbon fiber stickers = 2 seconds faster. Awesome!
Hal: I'm afraid you cannot do that
Nik & Richard: Already have
I have never seen a smile anything like that sported by Richard after the first race on anyone playing a computer game, so point proven. In the interest of science, there can never be too much 'research'. Keep up the good work guys
ABom79 just had a heart attack seeing that hole saw on the lathe.
Brilliant, you guys never cease to amaze, and it's out of the box thinking that moves racing ahead, well done rebels well done.
"Far from optimal"
LMFAO
I'm so excited for race 2!!! Love seeing some bracketeering happening again, even when they said it couldn't be done!
U can find the total race day on youtube
"So, by using science, we can say that the shell is now nearly 4 stiffer" XD
"Turning the car in to a ball of snot!" That is a classic prodrive term which has been taken by me alone to many places. Love it! Couldn't tell you where it originated from but that's the first place I heard it. By the way, great series boys! Look forward to it every week now! 👌
what's happened with your Escargot ? or have I missed some uploads.. Stay safe... Gazza
This channel is among the finest on youtube!
“It’s not about what the rules say, it’s about what they DON’T say.”
Here in the States in SCCA Club Racing we refer to your rules reading as “IIDSYCYC”, which is “If It Doesn’t Say You Can You Can’t.” However, most don’t realize the corollary to that is “IIDSYCYBWS”, which means “If It Doesn’t Say You Can’t You Bloody Well Should.”
Welcome to the development cycle of racing. In a tight rules controlled series (here it would be Spec Miata, where I race) one spends all of one’s time exploring the grey areas and maximizing car set up and prep.
"No-one wants a scratched helmet...."
*dying laughing*
It's never fun scratching your helmet.
Is an insert in the lighter plug, so an 180 turn is easy.
Or switch to usb type c, no more upside down problems ;)
Time to upgrade to USB C!
@Ross Bourne D-Sub connectors are always the wrong way round when you try to plug them in bind.
Your brilliant thinking in the gray area of the rules and working around it to improve the car! The one who is best at it wins!

Nic Grindrod sounds like a name of an adult film star.
..... and shout squirrel
It's an anagram of Rodding Sin. Well, nearly.
Nic Grindrod and Vince Cable in: City Car Double-D Cup!
Really my kind of entertainment these parts are!
add lightness shorten bolts and fasteners that do not need to be long enough to do the job.power to lightens.. .
I loved that smooth "far from optimal" voiceover on what you've originally said Nik :) That's a nice touch mate :)
initially I was wondering how much lightness you are allowed to add.
then I remembered there is some kind of weight box for the series, so there must be a max for the amount of lightness you can add.
still raises the question: have you maxed it out?
they took the ballast box off, so one would think that they haven't maxed out on the good old lightness
@@pietarisalminen2250 I saw when I got to the end.

@@ekw555 fair enough
In this instance it may be easyer for them to add a bit of lightness to richard instead of the car...
i was gonna mention Bump steer and you guys are already on point!
i went crazy with mine and spend hours and hours chasing a near perfect 0.002in of bump on complete suspension travel.
it makes a pretty dramatic increase in front end grip and steering feel.
