Librewolf: the best browser?

- I discuss why I use Librewolf, why it's the best Firefox-based browser, and some additional extensions to make it even better. Intended for those moving away from Chrome or Chromium-based browsers (Brave, Opera, etc).
Librewolf is a community fork of Firefox, which has routine updates and ships with an extremely privacy-conscious configuration. Get it here: librewolf.net/
Fix your existing Firefox installation with a custom config, like Arkenfox user.js: github.com/ark...
Extensions mentioned can be found in the Mozilla addons page, or on their respective github repos.
It seems like TH-cam deleted a few comments on this vid (without sending them to a moderation queue or anything), so if your comment disappeared then feel free to try commenting again. Not sure what's up with that, sorry!
they've had filters for years that auto delete tons of comments for tons of reasons. nothing new, terrible platform to actually have conversation.
Because why let you moderate comments on your own videos? You can't be trusted with that, you could be evil!
(But we'll still take your work and monetize it, thanks)
they delete my comment telling you that they have tons of filters for years and always delete stuff.. nice
Hmm
a) the topic of the video is about browsers
b) Google has a browser
c) TH-cam is owned by Google
Do you really don't know why comments are "disappearing"?
😁
Not the first time I see Google doing stuff like that. Very troubling indeed.
Close enough. Welcome back Luke Smith! :)
Thank you! ;^)
I looked for that comment lmao
Gender swapped Gen Z Luke Smith is a thing that feels like it was made by an AI.
@@JonathonFailsAtLife It's still the same gender.
@@ZE_TRVTH_NVKE What do you mean? She's not biologically a she?
Recently discovered your channel and immediately subbed because you do a great job with to the point, no fluff, no clickbait or other non sense. Just clean and concise explanation. Keep up they great work.
Also, I get the feeling you've been online and inside the culture for awhile, so I may not need to say this, but just in case please, Please, PLEASE! do not get discouraged by some of the comments you'll receive. You'll get everything from creepy, disrespectful and down right f**ked up comments to the backhanded compliments and the 'we'll actually' people. Don't let it get to you, that's how they win. Keep killin it.
Hello, thank you much.
I've been around, but it's still nice to hear an encouraging comment. I just remember the internet is what it is, and to expect a certain amount of.. internet behavior. I definitely intend to keep making vids :)
She has insanely good wallpapers.
Thanks! This one is a painting by Karl Friedrich Schinkel called Landschaft mit Pilge.
Very good video. Thanks.
Small correction: The painting is called „Landschaft mit Pilger“.
There is a “r“ missing in the last word. With the „r“ it makes sense.
It means „landscape with pilgrim“.
Greets from Germany.
@@rubd-tz3wb Thanks very much for correcting and letting me know :)
This is great info. Im really enjoying your channel as a relatively new linux user! Please keep doing what you are doing!
Glad to hear - thank you! Will do :)
Librewolf is indeed one of the best privacy browser out there.
Thank You.
after watching this video, i tried extensions you mentioned.
i am still using Firefox but Like & Love all of them. Again Thank You Very Much.
No problem - glad to hear it helped you out! :)
Thanks. Great review with excellent info on this browser.
No problem - thanks for watching!
I really like your channel. They are well done, focused, not too long and single subject. makes it so much easier to find what you are looking for later. Do keep making more. have you tried the fork of picom with animations ? I use it with DWM and I like the smoother effect.
Thanks very much! I have not yet tried picom w/ animations, I'll have to check it out - thanks for sharing.
@@BreadOnPenguins Is Picom what you're using for the transparency? I have NOT been able to get that working.
@@BreadOnPenguins You bet! Look for the picom-ftlab pacakge Then picom --animations -b It's more subtle animations compared to hyprland
I would love if you could mention the artists of all of your wallpapers, to learn about them and take a look.
Lovely content btw. 🎉
Sure - I'll start including that in the description, in the future :)
This one is a painting by Karl Friedrich Schinkel called Landschaft mit Pilge.
Thanks!
The main problem with current browsers - they are very, very complex, too much complex. And treated as "yeah, the browser, whatever" without any alternatives. I hope there's will be some movement across hackers ("nerds", whatever you wanna call people who tinker with their shit) to distribute that complexity and make Web cleanier, more efficient, easier to understand, evolve and recreate the technology (instead of thinking about "how to make language model to create a bunch of useless text for our useless protocols and code that exist just because we freaking runing JavaScript from a random website and want it to do as much as a desktop application").
Are you alluding to the ladybird browser?
Thank you loving your content
No problem! Glad to hear :)
Nice to see some good linux content without some lurid cartoon wallpaper! I have a penchant for John Martin paintings, personally !
His paintings are beautiful but such a dark, looming quality to them. Maybe I'll use one as a background at some point :)
didn't know some of those extensions. might get some of them tomorow
Awesome :)

Awsome content.
Thank you!
Nice video, thanks.
what do you think of zen browser
Seems promising, especially if you're looking for an aesthetics-focused browser. Not sure if it has all of the security and privacy hardening that Librewolf has, but of course it always comes down to your priorities in a browser :)
Does it really take that long to build from source? I was tryna download it the other day, gave up and installed the binary version instead
It depends on your hardware - on desktop I could get away with compiling, but I've got a couple older laptops and it wouldn't be worth it on those.
On Arch it takes forever. I tried it at one point, and I eventually just cut it off and installed the -bin. This is on a gaming laptop with plenty of juice. I've never seen any other bit of software take so long.
It's a browser! They're all gonna take long to build from source.
Oh yeah, before I realised it had a binary, I tried building it from source and it was about 47 minutes in until it ran into an error. My laptop was on full-throttle though most of the time haha
It's a lot of source code. Also build systems suck, they probably take a third of the time in compareson to actuall compilation.
great video,
should i get a macbook m1 air or a linux supported laptop like thinkpad for college, i currently use dell latitude with arch+dwm, and i wanna learn webdev, ML,AI etc
subbed cuz you are on linux. looking forward to more content from you!
Thank you! :)
Absolutely love your videos! 😍
Thank you!! :)
Can we expect a video on tiling window manager ? Like how to customise from scratch😅
I've made a few videos about programs I use to customize my WM already, but I'll continue to make more as well :)
I am in love with your desktop wallpaper. May I ask the source?
Thanks! It's a painting by Karl Friedrich Schinkel called Landschaft mit Pilge.
been watching bunch of your videos and i love your wallpapers any chance you can share the source of them?
Hey, glad to hear! :)
Sure thing - I'll be adding them in the description in the future, this painting is by Karl Friedrich Schinkel called Landschaft mit Pilger.
What I would like LibreWolf to change is, that you cannot set the dark theme as default for displaying websites.
You can set that up with extensions if you wanted, or change default browser colors. :)
Such a cool chick and very knowledgeable. Definitely Subbing.
Gonna try this Librewolf once and for all, because of you. Thanks, bud.
Thanks so much for that, and no problem. :)
Hi - Can you please let me know if Firefox Android and Librewolf (on Desktop) work well together? Firefox desktop and android have sync issues. It works great right after enabling sync but then within an hour or so (or when we restart either devices) it stops working.
Hello, you can enable Firefox sync in Librewolf, however if you have a specific bug happening with Firefox sync between desktop and android on vanilla Firefox, then it's unlikely Librewolf would have fixed that. You can try checking through existing bug reports and seeing if there is anything similar to what you're experiencing.
Good luck and hope you're able to find a working solution!
Thanks a lot. I will check LibreWolf. One qq. Do you use sync between desktop and mobile?
What I really miss in Firefox (and I suppose its forks) is the possibility to load self-written plugins. I wrote a plugin and it works properly in Chrome, yet in Firefox I have to reinstall it every time I restart the browser... That's really weird
Unfortunate that it doesn't support that, you probably know far more about plugins than I do but the only thing that comes to mind would be extension signing (and disabling that in your browser, if yours is unsigned).
Regardless hopefully Firefox or forks make that native at some point!
Thanks for watching and commenting :)
Have you tried PaleMoon? It's The old Firefox, maybe this is where improvements can be made to fix all the bugs with Google's websites (you know, like Mozilla do with their patchnotes about fixing TH-cam).
Luke Smith is looking different today
Indeed
nice daily bread, thanks
Very welcome :)
the accent🔥
i switched to brave years ago. i hate switching browsers, but the clock is ticking. anyway, i wonder if librewolf can hardware video decode with my nvidia. thanks for the video!
Librewolf should support hardware video decoding for Nvidia cards, but you may have to edit a few settings in about:config to get it working (depends on how you've installed and your card)
No prob, thanks for watching!
Hi ! Can you give us your wallpaper link used in your videos ? Thank you :)
Greetings,

Hello, sure :)

@@BreadOnPenguins Hello thank you :)
Luke, is that you?
Indeed, it is I
Why is there a penguin in my zoo? It's hot here
Maybe get an air-conditioned habitat and some icebergs for the penguin
I really liked your video it was helpful. I am new to Linux so it was all good to know. However i will have to use windows as well because of davinci resolve. Their linux version is awful so i cant escape microsoft completely.
Glad to hear! Yeah, sadly that's one of the things that, until more programs fully support Linux, keeps people tethered to windows. At least you can try dual-booting or using a VM :)
Repost because my comment vanished: what's your password manager of choice? Mostly curiosity; I'm already a LW user and have a setup I'm pretty happy with.
Thanks for reposting, yeah I saw your comment show up and then disappear.. thanks youtube. Lol
I've moved to pass (www.passwordstore.org) - a great way to store locally, even better if you can keep an offsite backup.
If you're looking for a browser extension, Bitwarden should get the job done; it's open source but freemium model - the free version is fine from what I've heard.
Floorp or Zen browser. Privacy focused and tweaked for performance.
Hadn't heard of Floorp before, looks cool. Both add a lot of unique features beyond the base firefox experience.
Mullvads the best Firefox fork
I've heard that's a good one too, yup
Librewolf sends stuff back too
Very little, compared to vanilla Firefox at least. :)
useful! what do you think of Ladybird though? o:)
I've not yet tried it but it looks promising - I'll have to check it out :)
Use case for internet privacy?
Librewolf is very privacy-focused if that's what your comment was asking. Several other options too if you're seeking the best browsers for privacy, like Mullvad
@@BreadOnPenguins What I said was referring to a meme, guess you're not that caught up in the autistic tech underworld
Was librewolf affected by the recent Firefox vuln?
Yes, librewolf is firefox, but preconfigured, the vulnerability has allready been patched, just update librewolf if you haven't allready.
I believe so but they updated asap as soon as the FF version fixing it was released.
Great content 😎
Thanks!
good vid :D
Thank you! :)
here after firefox zeroday 😷

How secure is AUR????
I'd say it's pretty secure, I've never had any issues.
If you want to read up on package manager and repo security though, here's a good article: www2.cs.arizona.edu/stork/packagemanagersecurity/faq.html
youtube deletes anything that looks like it is link to some website or if it looks like it is offencive
or againsst youtube
The filters seem pretty spotty tbh, a few comments that seemed completely fine to me got removed. Oh well, hopefully they improve in the future
Hey bread 👋 Just subbed
Ain't your monitor a bit too high for you?
Nope, prevents neck/back issues down the line
A monitor tilted downward slightly which helps a lot at minimizing dust buildup. Having it above horizon line makes that doable without angling monitor away from the user which can cause distortions on some panel technologies.
Firefox is not kind of sucks it is the definition of sucks and today we have 9.8 cve for it isn’t
We got pretty Linux content creator before GTA6.

@@lateralrook Whats your problem?
@@GeorgiMurdzheffyour comment was retarded, you thought it was funny but it wasn’t.
Never thought, a women have to go through the darknesss of linux. What your trauma. 😢
LOL
Oh my God, I thought her face was a drawing from the Middle Ages.
I need a browser to support -webkit-box-reflect, scroll driven animations and modern stuff like that. Does Librewolf support it? No. Then fuck it.
