- Update from Gaza, where hundreds of thousands of evacuees have fled Rafah as repeated international calls urge Israel to exercise caution before launching a ground offensive on the city. Israel has been fighting Hamas across Gaza since the militant group carried out the October 7th terror attacks on Israel. But now Israeli soldiers are returning to the NORTH of the strip where Hamas forces have regrouped in areas Israel said it had cleared.
Meanwhile, sirens sounded across Israel in somber ceremonies to mark Memorial Day. This year's commemoration is dedicated to the more than 1,200 people killed last fall by Hamas, as well as the soldiers who have died during the ongoing war in Gaza. Israeli citizens are still struggling to deal with the fallout of last October's attacks. With reporting from DW’s Israel correspondent Tania Krämer and Middle East Analyst Shani Rozanes.

Isreal has committed over 40 October Sevens in Gaza since October 7. Why do you have compassion for Israelis and not for Palestinians? I'm so tired of it.

Israel authorised Hamas so they could keep the status quo and continue settlements etc and not make peace with Palestinians. IDF killed those in 2018 peaceful Hamas organised marches
The last election was in 2006. More than half the population of Gaza are children. I'm not really sure by what standard "they voted them in". When you're talking about a government that has not held elections for literally more than the lifetimes of over half the population, saying "oh well, the people of Gaza want this" is disingenuous at the very least. If a European country hadn't held elections for 18 years, and had those demographics, we wouldn't even be having a conversation about how democratic or socially responsible the population was for the actions of the government.
Loved your video about Egypt joining South Africa in the Genocide case with the ICJ. The sound of crickets comming out of DW's speakers was deafening.

Has anyone looked at which areas the IDF is focusing on in Gaza? I wonder how large the Gaza Strip will be after the war. Will Israel take the north a west lands that were being used for farming to expand settlements?
There is no proof of that happening. The last thing Israel did about illegal settlements was tearing them up and evicting thousands of Israelis from Gaza.

An artificial peninsula out in the water. Infrastructure, housing, schools, water desalination facilities. The Palestinians would have something nice for once. Security would be provided by the Israeli's with a large attractive gate for those approved to travel. For those who will accept a two state agreement to live in peace with Israel, housing on old Gaza footprint. For those who still want to support the fellas, they get to live with them on the peninsula. A public denunciation with monetary reward for those denouncing hummus. Solution is, peace and safety for Israel. Housing and security for the Palestinians. For those who still want hummus to govern them. they will have the opportunity to live with them on the sea.

I feel bad for the people of gaza but I really think that they should pick different leaders in the future that wont run into someone else's country to kill and kidnap innocent civilians. Hamas was the cause of all of this in my opinion but it still doesn't justify what is happening to these poor people 😢😢
