How effective are current sanctions on Israeli settler violence? | DW News

  • Palestinians living alongside hundreds of thousands of Israeli settlers in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem say that increasing violence has left them worried for their lives and futures. The United Nations says that violent settler attacks on Palestinians have increased since the Hamas terror attacks of October 7th and the war in Gaza. Locals interviewed in our report say international sanctions against some settlers are not helping to curb the violence.
    Earlier this spring, in March 2024, Israel seized 800 hectares of land in the West Bank, with Israel's extreme-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich declaring sections in the northern Jordan Valley, near the Israeli settlement of Yafit, to be “state lands.” Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories are illegal under international law.

      Are you surprised? Their leadership has come right out and said they want to take Gaza and "push the Palestinians out". Where exactly does that mean they want them to go? Let's just say they're not hiding their feelings. If anyone thinks all of this unaliing by the Israelis is accidental, then you're simply not listening to them. This is genocide. It's as simple as that.

That's like going into someone's home, stealing it, forcing them to live in the basement, then asking if everyone agrees that the thieves should get to keep the house. They have reported about this for ages. They have a Two States stance, pretty much in line with the German foreign policy stance and public opinion. The crucial issue that holds Germany back from a more proPalestinian stance are security issues. Every terror attack on Israel alienates the German public and political elite from the Palestinians.
      Same goes for the settlements. Almost nobody supports the settlements out of themselves. However some people buy into the argument that they allow Israel to establish defensive lines beyond its borders, thus they are important for the defense of Israel's civilians. Without the constant security threat support for the settlements would be nil and international pressure would be mounting.

    One of the worst guests of DW during this conflict. First, it is almost impossible to understand what he says. Second, the things he said do actually make little sense… “word salad”. Technically he just says that Israel needs to do a better job of enforcing law in the west bank… well their whole apartheid strategy of suppressing Palestinians and ruling violently did not work well for so many years… maybe diplomacy and compromise (on both sides) is the only way to get to a peaceful 2 state solution… however difficult with the wrong leaders (again on both sides)

    It should be that if a Israeli wants to enter a foreign country, they should have to prove that they are not from the West Bank via a form of identification that isn't from the Israeli government.

  • @randall_c_6163
    @randall_c_6163 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    What DW doesn’t report is it’s in israil law that no case can be brought to any israil court that’s has taken place in the West Bank or Gaza Strip meaning israil them self have no mechanism to punish illegal violence that occur against the Palestinian even if they wanted to. This is one of the main evidence present to the ICJ to support the element for “systematic” prejudice against an ethnic group. This is a key factory to prosecute and qualify israil under the genocide conviction for intent on a systematic levels.

    The word 'Canaan' was derived from the Hurrian language for 'purple' and, as the Greeks knew the Canaanites as 'Phoenicians' (Greek for `purple') and as the Phoenicians worked in purple dye and so were called by the Greeks' purple people,'' this explanation is the most probable.
    At the beginning of the 12th century B.C., the Philistines were one of the Sea Peoples swept out of the Aegean to appear in the archaeological record and ancient literary references. The Philistines ultimately settled on and dominated some of the choicest land in Canaan.
    The Greeks began using the term 'Palestine' to refer to the whole region between Egypt and Phoenicia. This term does come directly from 'Philistine.' The Greeks used this for the whole region because they were obviously more familiar with the coastal nation (the Philistines) than the inland one (the Israelites).

      How does someone with no content have 11 subscribers ????? Also an UNICEF report released on 6 June 2024, showed INDIA has successfully narrowed inequities in severe child food poverty between poorer and wealthier households by 5 percentage points. I will mention China has also improved but still has 10% percent of children with severe food poverty. Unfortunately I couldn't find the percentage figure for India, you can post it here. All parameters to measure hunger such childhood mortality stunting and wasting have improved positively over the years. All data to show this is available on U.N.s website. India has a lot to improve but a lot has improved. I for one think most countries have improved so no need to be negative.
