    Honestly it was so refreshing to see some common sense when it comes to controversial topics that are discussed in the compass test. Some real opinions, and not just feeding with the left's or right's narrative. This test is obviously older, so your results as a libertarian have different meaning than they do today. In my opinion, it shows more centrist views since we have a two party system in this country, and often times people fall on a spectrum between hard left and hard right. It was very nice to see that you didn't follow a certain narrative but took a common sense approach. More people in this country need to form their own opinions and not let social media, media outlets, and politicians dictate the narrative for them. People should form their own narratives by their own life choices/environment/and upbringing. This was the first stream that I tuned into, and as a senior taking political psychology and behavior electives, this was very entertaining to watch. It was funny and wise as fuck. Keep up the good work Matt.

      I agree, but possessing your own views is not always indicative of being fed a narrative though. To me there is an obvious difference between someone who clearly knows why they believe what they do, Matt was one of those as you said, and someone who just regurgitates what they heard on Fox News or CNN that past afternoon. Neither side is immune to this to be sure, but I think it is unfair to lump anyone who has a strong left or right opinion into that regurgitation group, though polarization is making that more and more difficult. Common sense is a peculiar thing, in that it’s not really all that common anymore. What I believe should be common sense could be very different from you. I feel like it needs a new name.

    • @Willy72070
      @Willy72070 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@gabehowe2778 While that’s true, 95% of peoples views come from either their family or influences around them. It’s sad but there’s not much you can do about it cause let’s say you grow up your whole life listening to how the Democrats (or republicans) are ruining America, how do you think your perspective will be on future matters? So most people’s “common sense” IS based off their environment. I think the best thing you can do to have a truly neutral view is to keep yourself away from politics as much as possible, or at least media outlets and people who are far left/right

    • @atomic_bear

    It should be noted that the Political Compass is very flawed as a tool to diagnose political orientation. This is because it was created by a Libertarian who wanted to push his beliefs. It should also be noted that politics can’t really be put on a basic scale.

    The issue when it comes to political compass tests and ones adjacent to them is that:
    A) The people who make these tests are often Left-leaning and it shows in the questions.
    B) The people who make these tests often don't actually understand the paradigms they're talking about. This is how they magically put Hitler as a "Right-wing authoritarian," when he was actually Left-wing. The Left in America get confused by the actual dichotomy, because they often look to Europe for policy ideas, and Europe is so far Left that they don't have anyone who's actually Right-wing. The Left-Right dichotomy when it comes to scope of government is based around exactly that, the scope of government. The end of the Left would be authoritarianism, while the end of the Right would be anarchy. Once you understand that, and actually look at the policies put forward, it becomes self-evidently stupid to say Hitler was "Right-wing." Also, Bernie's not a "Libertarian Socialist," that's an oxymoron. Bernie wants the government to have as much control over people's lives as he deems fit, as does every other Marxist of whatever bullshit stripe they say.
    C) The people taking these tests are almost entirely ignorant of the things that're necessary to know and understand in order to take the test and give the answers they actually believe. And that's not through any fault of their own, people aren't going to have the time, ability, etc. to research a shit ton of different topics and educate themselves on. But when people see quotes from Marx (the most evil piece of shit to walk the face of the planet), Hobbes, or Rousseau and don't know what they actually mean, it's going to heavily skew their answer. And that's all before getting into how people who talk so adamantly about subjects when they legitimately know nothing about it but the lies they've ingested for years (looking at you, abortion and Roe v Wade).
