Smooth Gefixt i hope you use the legit pen fishing rod on another survival challenge preferably on a tropical island using only a knife and the pen fishing rod. Btw great video.
"Bait is gone as well..." not the tiniest bit of anger... also when the fire wouldn't start in part1 Julius must be one of the most positive dudes on planet earth 😊👌👌 I find that very impressive, the guy could hold seminars 👍
Gentlemen, I do appreciate all of the work you put into your adventure. It is not too often that I see a bushcraft outing where tools are fabricated on sight as you have done. The fishing poles, lines and hooks all fabricated on site and the traps as well. It was a joy to watch. The unrehearsed nature of your video truly enhances the experience for me. Thank you for producing this.
Such an amazing example of true bushcraft. Shelter making, fire making, natural cordage, foraging, water purification by fire, fishing with natural materials... just impressive. Heads above what other folks are doing. Thank you!
What I like is that you guys don't do everything super perfect, just trying and adapt, makes it fun to watch and actually way more educational because it triggers my own thinking in what to do and come up with a solution.
What I was going to type, was said at the end. I just came back from a grueling trip that exhausted me to the point that making fire with a bic lighter was very hard. TH-cam armchair warriors (which we all kind of are) can say "you could have done that or should have done this" The amount of knowledge I have sitting behind a keyboard,is different than the knowledge I have after exhaustion, fatigue and dehydration set in after while being out there expending calories. Dealing with exhaustion, fatigue, hunger and dehydration stifles the thoughts and a lot of knowledge disappears. Doing it in reality is a whole other animal. Survival isn't just about knowing how to make fire and shelter....its a mind game. Survival and Psychology are VERY important and go hand in hand. Great job guys and thanks for the video. Much respect.
TIP: if you find a rotten egg, crack it a little bit and put it in your fish trap. The smell of the rotten egg in the water will attract many fish from far away.
Did I just watch Broke Back Island?? Lol, Just kidding. Some tips; the mosquitoes were SO easy to manage, all you had to do was cover your skin, face, back of hands, etc with mud. They cannot land on your skin nor bite through the mud. Then after you have a fire you wash it off. It is also very good for your skin. For the fish traps, I learned they do not like it so dark, so you have to leave some space between the branches to let the light in. Not so big a space to lose a fish, but some space between each limb for light. That was very difficult terrain to survive in, and I think you guys did a stellar job with such limited resources. Remember, cover in mud, and more light in your fishing baskets. Well done, I had to subscribe! :-) Kevin & Nugget - Colorado, USA -
Excellent videos guys! I love that you don't scout an area ahead of time and go in knowing nothing of the area and then show the good and the bad of it. You show just how difficult a situation like this can be and we the viewers get to learn about your area and the skills needed to survive in your area. Very nice! Educational and fun to watch.
Stinging nettle is one of the most nutrient rich plants. Tea or eat as spinach. You do not need to go hungry with all those nettles. LOVE your videos. Please do more.
Good job guys. Really enjoyed the series. Your ideas and the implements you build are solid. Just didn't have much luck on your side. Bravo for what you accomplished with so little. Cheers.
Waited all week for this. I was just as disappointed as you guys were when you came up empty handed on the fish. Should've renamed this series "Starving for three days outside" Anyway it was a great series and I enjoyed all three episodes! Can't wait to see you guys go at it again. Thanks!
A tip for lighting or relighting a fire like at 11:43. Place a log about wrist thickness as a baseboard perpendicular to the kindling you add to the early flames. So the small sticks lay on the ground and baseboard, it helps in not smothering the flames. Great videos and good work.
lol julius the cattail gobbler, maybe a gag hook work better or a sock with tight rushes in and some mashed worms works well for small eels and crayfish.
Im sorry that it went that way but I'm happy that you show people that there are real hardships unless you plan ahead...you are showing real world issues people face everyday...too many channels make it seem easy
No matter where you are take the garbage out with you; and that means if it's even someone else's. Too many lazy people in this state and they don't know how to take care of our forests. I always take an extra trash bag with me and pick up wrappers and trash that people have left. Sometimes a friend of mine will take a trash bag with him while in his drift boat and clean up around the docks and along the river. We never had this problem years ago, but the past few years it has been getting worst because people think they are too entitled to everything and not thinking about the consequences of their actions. They think that tossing out a plastic bottle or wrapper isn't going to hurt anything, but if many others think that way then we have a problem, which we are getting now. Keep things clean and remember it is up to you to set an example.Thank you for your video; as always, it is very entertaining and fun to watch.
You're a great person!:) I have the fate that nowadays people start to be more aware, especially with all the attention to sea plastic these days. Good to remind each other and spread the worth though. Together we can accomplish a lot and take care of this planet!
This channel makes me want to go to my nearest woodlands, build a den start a fire wear my t-shirt on my head and eat acorns until the shrooms wear off 😁
Production quality went up so much ouwe! Great editing. And see the results of your labour! 18k views, 700 likes (at time of writing). You guys are going to get big!! Ps Just bring some instacoffee next time, just a tiny bit, for when the caffaine withdrawal hits you. I won't mind, i do it too:p
Great video as always! Love you guys! I also had a question : Not too long ago I was out with my family on a camping trip out in a forest. It was a good trip except one thing: there was a lot of trash. Mostly plastic but there were glass bottles too. We were at a beautiful place too and seeing it so polluted it was just horrible. So my question was do you guys see a lot of plastic pollution when you guys are making videos? And if you do do you see a lot of it?
Especially in Ireland, it is very bad, the worst I have seen in Europe. Guess it is a cultural thing: Ireland is known for their quite simple and remote life on the countryside. Everywhere you go will see litter and even massive dumpings. Terrible!!! There against in Germany you don't find any litter at all in the forest. Together we can accomplish a lot and take care of this planet! Thanks for your comment:) Cheers, Julius
@@SmoothGefixt In Germany there is a system called Pfand where you need to pay 25 extra cents for most plastic bottles and you'll get it back when you go to any supermarket and put them into this deposit automat.
Next time for your fish trap you should try catching minnow's with a T-shirt on a Y sick and making making a fish pen trap out of sticks you make a fence by sticking them in a row in shallow water into the mud. Might be less work then weaving a basket fish trap.
The fish trap Idea was a good one, but it only works if you have a little piece of meat or something to put in the trap to attract fish or crawdads , empty it is just wood in the water.
It would be good if you would show us on google maps where the island was. Loved the video... There are easier ways to make a fish pens. Next time bring some corn for bait.
It was more than interesting guys....it was awesome. The location was difficult at best but that said....that might just be how you find yourself in a survival situation. You did good. The fish traps should have worked if you could have caught a fish on the gorge hook and used the guts for bait or used the dog food. Dog food is an awesome way of baiting a spot for fish...I do it all the time and it brings in everything, catfish, bass, crappie etc. .....you were almost there. You just needed a bit more to make it happen. I thoroughly enjoyed the video and admire your skills and determination.
Great vid guys! You should keep those traps and try them again with a fish carcass as bait! I am sure I am not the only one who would like to see how they work in the long run. Also, throw a GoPro in the trap some time so we can see what might be investigating the bait. Just some thoughts. Keep the great vids rolling!
Great video lads looking forward for your next one I tried the bow drill for the first time this week my God it's hard hopefully next time I will make fire atb jimmy 😎 😎
I've really enjoyed these guys, as I have all your videos that I've watched. They remind me of my own survival days in the eighties/nineties.. With regard to the bow drill, your in a bit of a wetland and I imagine the wood might have been damp and the humidity high too, making it difficult for the ember to take hold.. I'm no expert though.. The approach to fishing, in a real life scenario, you probably wouldn't have undertaken so soon. Your energy was low and you were losing much more in the water, plus time spent on construction of traps plus risk of injury in the water.. The bait you put out was essential food for yourselves to first build up your own strength, as was the minnows around your feet lol.. But fantastic! Loved it! I know this was a fishing exercise after all. These are down and dirty, nothing romantic and very realistic..
Sorry you guys never caught any dinner :/ but damn are you both resourceful! Those cat tails came in handy dandy in the end though! Awesome awesome video thank you for the knowledge!
