- Head-to-head survival challenge! Each of us has a budget of $10 to buy dollar store articles. With only those items we have to survive separately for 24 hours overnight in a rocky barren landscape. 1 VS 1: Who comes out best?
The dollar store survival challenge was the most requested challenge in our giveaway contest a couple of months back. So we definitely had to give it a go. Thanks again for sending in your challenges!

I've watched a lot of dollar store challenges but this was by far the most entertaining. The 5 minute shopping time limit made it hard to find and pick the best items. Julius you should have got a lighter. You know how important fire is. The foil and battery hack will not work with a battery pack where the positive and negative terminals are turned in opposite directions. Looking forward to part 2. Thanks for all your efforts guys.
it can work with any battery, he needed a gum wrapper with foil on one side and paper on the other.

Looks fun. I recommend making a raised bed for wet ground places like this place. Just putting logs together would even be good because you're off the cold ground.

Nice work on the bin bag shelter, using them as sleeve tiles like that was my first thought, but using the string the way you did saved a lot of work over using sticks.

You can appreciate the heartiness of the early people of Ireland. It's cold and damp, and requires a determination to survive. It's also beautiful as hell and has many natural resources.

Quick tip when starting a fire like Julius is attempting the foil needs to be lined with paper and might've worked with the packaging from the knife

It's not the knives fault, that type of knive has a pretty specific use. That's why it's flexible like that.
true, the price was 2.99 if i remember correctly, a disposable item. cheap steel, hollow soft plastic scales, and tin rivets.. it was made to break so shouldnt really be allowed in western europe.. ;) Cheers. dylan

The twine and bin bag shelter is surprisingly innovative. I think getting another pair of verticals and another cross would make it a lot more stable.

Wow! Y'all got a LOT of comments on this challenge! I didn't take the time to read through them all, so please excuse if this is a duplicate. To make fire with batteries and foil, if one battery doesn't work, try lining them up positive to negative and then the foil. Of course the foil must be long enough to reach each end of the line of batteries. Have the narrow point of your foil touching the paper/fiber you want to ignite, as you won't have very long before it burns & breaks at the narrow point - then no more heat. Good luck & Cheers!
