Wow! You are SUPER thurough! Most backyard pond builds I've seen are just digging a hole, routing a singular filtration system, and adding a bed liner and that's it. You have truly gone above and beyond. I don't doubt this is a very expensive build that your Koi`s will thank you for
Haha yes. Not cheap, thankfully Oase enabled some of this build. It was about showing what can be possible. A massive step up from the basic pond I'd built myself before. I was excited to see what goes into this level of fish keeping. And is especially for anyone who, like me, is utterly fascinated by water, fish and filtration! So tinkering in the filter house won't be a chore, it'll be a pleasure :) Can't wait to learn more.

I use to have a koi pond myself many years ago (although mine was brick built semi raised and much more modest than your incredible structure.
I also use to keep marine fish and even now there is nothing more satisfying than watching fish swim about and hear running water.
Nowadays i just have a few water features in the garden which gives me serenity.
Uhhh.... those Single colored kois get me every time. Outstanding choice!! They will look awesome in that pond through the Window. Imagine sitting in Front of it after a long Day and just feel the Stress and exhaustion melt and you get calm and peaceful....
Cheers Ralph! Appreciate it. That's what I'm really looking forward to :) Will make the most of it. I've been very much needing a calm space, to tinker and really get into the hobby in my spare time. Being able to watch the fish from my office will be unreal... immensely grateful. You like one coloured fish too! I find it amazing how they seem to pop more than the mixed coloured fish, surprisingly!
@@fishwithcarl mixed coloured seems so hectic and chaotic and disguise the shape of the fish. Enjoy it!! I wish you get what you want with that pond. But beware!! You easily get distracted while watching Charlie and her comrades.... 😁

Won't be too much longer thankfully after some delays. Had a hole in the fibreglass has now been fixed :) and the wood coping has been finished. Will be filming planting up the beds this week. Have filled the pond up, and turned on filtration, all working perfectly! Nearly finished filming, will ready to edit pt 3 soon. Looking like it will be out in May :)

Your words are true, my brother like koi with one color, he has Saragoi [the only dark blue in our pond] and chagoi both grow big and has humps which makes more lovely for koi. (it was also in the mind of my brother, a single color koi and a koi with small tail& fins tends to grow big, not just there are friendly fish but also good eaters)

Excellent stuff, very kind of Oase to help you out. Don’t work for them myself, however, i reckon they’d be chuffed with a few more plugs for their products when you’ve got the system running.

Konishi doitsu karashi are worth a look believe me. 1m+ easy... They are huge.

KonishiKoiFarm is the name btw. Watch the videos from Japan pre Covid. They got 30+kg linear karashi at konishi in Japan, you need to buy them small then we might be talking couple 100€ maybe 3-4 i guess. They have auctions so its worth checking by for ppl like you ;)

Yes, that deep teal seems to work really well at helping the structures sink into into background. They do appear much less prominent. Next instalment hopefully out in a few weeks :)

@@fishwithcarl awesome stuff... It would be interesting to know what it costs. Not exact figures if you feel it's too much info, just a rough breakdown. I'm assuming as you had a lot of "help" from old friends you'd have got mates rates on a few jobs :)
My sponsor Oase helped enable the project, which of this size is around 30 - 40k all in... it's proper. but can be done at various levels, to different budgets. I couldn't have done it without Oase, or The Pond Specialists who did the work. YEs Steve helped immensely with the carpentry :) And my Dad with the planting.

Soon as the wood arrives for the final finishing. It's taking it's time to be available so lots waiting at the moment, and can't plant up until that's done. Hopefully only a few more weeks!

Wow Carl. Just mesmerising, and I know how calming this little bit of paradise is going to be for your general mental health, away from the cameras. I get what the bigger picture will be for you! Just don't sell up immediately!!! 😂
I'm a gardener, and I'd keep the planting scheme in a Japanese style with Red and green leafed Japanese Acers but the finely leafed varieties! (fantastic reds and yellows in autumn will go nicely with the fish within!!😉, bamboos BUT BE CAREFUL with these as the roots are invasive and will cause issues (probably stay away from those even though they're nice)definitely fine grasses and absolutely have some ferns hostas etc buddy!! Your dad will help with these, 😉😉

I'd love the science behind running the pumps and filtration units too, so interesting!! Giving you and Carl a virtual big pat on your backs, what an inspiration you guys are to us!
Cheers J! Appreciate it :) There'll definitely be some ferns, love them! And a tree fern too. I love Japanese gardens, but as the filter house is so strong and so are the other bit of hard landscaping Dad's gone for two Trachycarpus in the beds, so that those bold fan shaped leaves balance and stand up to the rest of the garden balancing it. He is using this amazing fresh green Japanese grass to soften and evergreen shrubs between. Simple, mainly evergreen and low maintenance was what I was looking for, but strong enough to look 'right' next to the heavy structures. Yes haha thankfully we've got a bamboo variety that is the non-invasive kind!
it's looking amazing. it really is going to be such a special place to sit at and relax, that's for sure.
