Now that I have seen how those wings are put together, I'm pretty sure I will never fly in one of those planes ever. All I'd ever be thinking about is bolts vibrating loose or turbulence sheering off bolts. Love learning about this stuff and the humor it's presented with though.

Thanks for the comment. I made it. Super easy. Needed a flat piece of 0.032" and a few snips and rivets. Only took a few minutes.

Hello: Jimmy love your videos.. Quick question is that garmin 430 wass or non wass ? Do you need wass gps for the G5"s?
mine is a WAAS, The G5's have an internal GPS and if you don't have a WAAS GPS you can use an antenna connected to the back of them.

Thanks so much! Don't know the details on the insulation, it was in there before I got it. It is good stuff though. reflective aluminum on one side and 1"+ thick insulation.
Jimmy I’ve been loving your journey and following along. I’m from Australia so our rules are different, are you an engineer to do all that work or can pilots do whatever they want to their plane in the states?

It’s awesome to see your progress, but I have to ask, why the G5 (old tech / sticks out), vs the GI 275? They look so much neater, they are quicker higher resolution screen and look part of the panel.
Thanks for your comment and I 100% agree on the 275. I would have went that way in a heartbeat if I could... Thanks to the FAA, the G5's are the only ones that are certified to work with my A/P :/. The process to get them certified to work with other equipment can take years... government efficiency at its finest...
@@therealjimmysworld oh damn, so your A/P manufacturer is going to have to go through the STC process, that is a shame. It makes sense, well sort of, it makes sense in the convoluted way the FAA works… ;) thanks again for the videos and I really enjoy the light hearted spin you put into them.

@@therealjimmysworld make sure she can rotate each tassel in opposite directions at the same time. Most can only rotate the pair in the same direction.

How’d you learn to do these things
Your GMU test should be done with a short test cable per the installation manual. Max 15’ if I recall. Did you use overbraid out in the wingtip? What about the ground straps on the connectors?

yep and got the instrument in October last year. working toward commercial.... if I ever get an airplane flying long enough... lol
@@therealjimmysworld I took my instrument ride about 50 years ago in a six, about the same vintage as your A/C. I held an avionics repairman certificate so I was following along closely. Interesting that I never heard you mention an ELT or remote activation switch.

excellent project, man. Just a heads up. During the interference checklist, I have discovered a weird phenomenon. If Lizzo's "Truth Hurts" comes on the XM radio, it will unsync the whole system. The only remedy is to remove any and all references to three cord hip hop music from the cockpit.

I don't like Garmin. The 195 was good back in the 90's. I purchased one other item by Garmin and it was over priced, took out other equipment and never worked. In my book Garmin is garbage. Spend your money on something good, cause Garmin isn't.
This is an absurd comment. A simple fact is that Garmin rules the GA market for avionics. What alternative would you recommend?
