I’m in Chicago and I refused to drive anywhere close to that convention. It’s not even worth it anymore because they r manipulating the surge. Charging rider hefty fees and paying us peanuts
I set my filter in a way where I’m nowhere near the convention center if I’m south. Nothing north of 31st. And I don’t take rides south of North Avenue.
As long as drivers allow rideshare companies to abuse them, things will stay the same. If they organize a proper strike and have a union, these companies won’t be able to steal drivers' money so easily.
Forget about unions with dues and then getting in bed with Uber leadership. Anyway, Uber would never agree to make contracts with a union and then need approval from the union to amend agreements. There probably is an answer out there, but it's definitely not unionizing.
The real problem is all these newbies are happy to take these rides for pennies

I was doing Uber trips downtown yesterday and there was no surge pricing whatsoever. Not even $1 I was thinking how is this possible with the DNC in town. I did a few trips and left
Drove a lady to O'Hare Airport from downtown Chicago which paid $85 and Lyft only gave me $22 LOL. Traffic made it a 75 minute ride. If this was night time in no traffic I would of got paid the same. She paid off demand & traffic while I only got paid off of miles. Oh ya.. FEES FEES FEES.

@@IADDP Any of you other Chicago Uber drivers been having problems with timing and navigation on Reserved trips?
I’ve lost half a dozen $25-$29 Reserved trips in the morning because Uber’s crack navigators still haven’t gotten the memo that there’s construction on the inbound Kennedy.
I get the message telling me it’s time to head to my pickup and the route they designated is to jump on the Kennedy at Montrose! At 7am on a weekday? The whole route they have plotted is as red as Santa’s nose.
As I’m crawling along, usually about 10 minutes later, I get the warning message “You are at risk of losing this trip. Start heading to your destination” What? WTF you think I’m doing in this parking lot at 7am?
Another 10 minutes goes by and another warning. Five minutes later, The trip will disappear from the screen and revert back to the “You’re Online” screen. Either there is no notification about what happened or you get a notification the ride was given to another driver because I wasn’t making adequate progress to my destination.
What? I went online 40 minutes before the pickup time ( as required), I left when you told me to leave and I took the route you told me to take.
Poof 💨. Gone. No cancellation fee. Nothing. If you call “support”, they think you’re crazy because there is no record of you having that ride.
Same sh@t happens if I take my own route on side streets. The navi thinks you’ve gone off the reservation and are joyriding somewhere. I’ve probably lost 10 or more fat airport rides that way.

Chicago has been a disaster since May, it was already a disaster before but at least there were days where I could earn 200, yesterday I only made 85 dollars from 12pm to 7pm. In previous weeks... I barely made more than 100 dollars a day. The business is unsustainable, and the difference in pay between an Uber Black and an Uber X is already bordering on discrimination. I've seen Lyft trips yesterday for 2.25...
We gotta find a way to fight this. This is such bs

They do the same thing in Orlando ( one of the busiest convention destinations in the land)

For a long distance ride taxis charge $100 where as Uber requestes to take for $20. For 60 miles drive! Absolutely ridiculous!

Those are Airport trips. We when no demand rider pays about $30 and driver $14 to $16.
When busy rider pays $120 and driver gets $18 + $4,$5,$6 bonus !!
I doubt anyone is accepting these rides but Uber will love to make you think your friends are accepting garbage fares in reality no one is accepting, please switch off and move away from busy area

I’ll never understand. I’m in Lake Tahoe and there’s a huge demand to the Reno airport. I’ve done hundreds of trips from Tahoe to the Reno airport. Not one with Lyft, all with Uber. For example: this morning Lyft request to Reno airport pays 79$, while Uber reservation is 178$. Lyft pays so low for long trips but pays more than Uber in town. Two hour drive time to Reno airport. Can’t pick up in Nevada since coming from cali at stateline South Lake Tahoe. Lyft has no clue and no interest in getting a piece of the pie? Leaving money on the table, who’s running this company should be fired!

The key is not getting sucked into that Uber lot nonsense. Complete time suck.
I’ve done well just picking DNC people up at Salt Shed and other random venues/bars.
The Uber lot at the United Center is a nightmare to get into or out of for Bulls/Hawks/Concerts.
If they can’t sucker enough drivers, they’ll put the address as Madison & Peshtigo or some other ruse to get you there. I fell for that ONCE.
I never do the lots at Midway or O’Hare either. I’d rather drop a rider and get out of there.
As an aside, it’s a joke to see the tax money the city is blowing on this. From Oak Street to Randolph, two or three cops and a squad on EVERY corner, plus foot patrols of 2 or three actually walking a beat mid-block. I haven’t seen that since I was a kid! There are more cops on Oak than pedestrians. 😂
Scarecrow policing has expanded beyond the medians on Michigan Ave. I’ve seen the same 4 empty squads sitting with lights on around O’Hare since last Thursday.
State boys have also gotten into the act in the Express Lanes.

I am attending a weekend convention in California. Be interesting how that goes if I need rides to my hotel a few miles away.
You can do a reservation to lock in a ride.
The delivery apps are not viable anymore.
Change needs to be taken world wide. Not just in specific cities. 600-900 a day is what you could make back in the day now 12 hours for 300…. How do we make less when things are getting more expensive????????? Hello drivers don’t you want to make 600+ a day for your hard work at least “BARE MINIMUM”

Lately Lyft has been doing something like this with events like Dodgers stadium and conventions in LA. It's so STUPID lol. But unfortunately, DRIVERS will be more STUPID to fall for it. Too many desperate drivers out there and go after $3 extra while wasting an extra 30-40 mins per ridfe. Sad.
On events - simply TURN OFF LYFT. Stick with UBER , wait and don't take the rides at first... hold it out.. and let it surge like a mf. Convert some of these to CASH RIDES.
Also you offered the ride 20% off they canceled and reported you so we are locked
Stop making them rich and look for other jobs where at least you don’t have to use car to earn penny money
