Halfway through I paused this video and searched "12 Hits From Hell" and sure enough someone uploaded it. Listened to it and came back to finish the interview! Thanks for arranging this interview. As a lifelong (since discovering the Misfits at 12 years old in 1997) I've always been fascinated by the history of this band and the odd/strange way their material was released. This interview answered SO many questions I've thought of over the years. Also, I live in the Chicago suburbs and had NO idea Jerry lived in the South Loop for a decade.
Great listen.. i had found a copy of a bootleg 12 hits on vinyl, decided to get jerry to sign it..man his expression on his face when i asked 😂 he did sign it 😅
You know I saved all my Christmas money in the 7th grade to buy the Misfits box set. As the local comic store clerk turned me onto the band. Not only the music, but the limited fiend club pin that came in it and the special case for Static Age that when you held it to the light, what you thought was black was actually blood red!!! But when I sent to buy it, my box just had two double CD's and not the special case! Turns out it was only the first 10,000 that had it. I was soooo bummed out. To this day I want to buy it just for the Static Age case. If anybody has an extra????
This was such a good episode! Hearing some of this behind the scenes stuff always reminds me why i love music stuff & why i swanton bombed into punk/hardcore music! Much love from the 805! Got my first twitching tongues merch!😈
12 Hits from Hell is a great release especially with the addition of Bobby Steele. The songs sound so much more fuller, production was top notch and Glenns vocals are phenomenal.Henry Rollins claims this too be the best record they never released
I worked in a music store in the mid to late 90s. After I left, I'd drop in now and then to chat with my former co-workers. This one time when I go in, the cashier reaches under the counter and shows me 12 Hits From Hell and I lost it! I asked when's it coming out?! And he says NEVER. He explained they had to return all copies back to the distributor, and I was sooooo crushed. So happy we all got to hear it eventually, and the wait was worth it.
this episode is epic, I loved the misfits for so long, I was aware of all the legal stuff, but had no ideas about the time line of the music itself. Jackass was also the first time I heard hybrid moments, figured I just hadn't heard it before, had no idea it wasn't released for so long.
Great content! Love it! 21:15 Fun fact: I took the boxset beack to the shop a couple a days afer I bought it, telling them something is wrong with the CD (Evilive!), because it sounded shit or 'broken'. Turns out, the original tapes were so deteriorated and sounded worse than my old vinyl copy :D 38:00 also: everybody check their "non -accountant" version, if their SA case is actually translucent dark red (hold it up to a light source), instead of plain opaque black ;)
1:31 completely spot on. I won't need to mention some of the Bulgarian bootleg sites which has a lot of awesome bootleg shirts. There are some awesome new Mercyful Fate official shirts being designed though
I still remember Rollins playing it on the radio and just talking about how important it was for an engineer to be in charge of these sessions instead of Glenn lol
Glenn is an enigma. Good luck getting him on. I saw Danzig in the '90's. I also saw the Misfits then. I doubt I will ever see the two together. It's not that there haven't been opportunities. It's that they are often too far out of reach. Sadly. Of course, I saw King Diamond recently so. Never say never.
@ of course. That’s why we’re in this sh*t sandwich scenario, Eric. All due respect 🫡. At least in the end, Bobby got the last laugh, and that’s probobly why they dislike him: no one likes to be caught with their pants down. (Unless it’s Hunter Biden).
saw the misfits in 2000 with Zoli from Ignite singing. I actually think he did a good job. He was also jacked at the time so he fit the aesthetic. They were benching in the parking lot before the show which was also amazing
Yeah I seen them too and it was the second time I seen them during the Graves era alot of people were pissed it wasn't Graves that came out on stage and I was like who is this guy?Surprisingly he did pretty damn good on vocals for those songs.Wasnt sure if this was during the time where they left Graves at the airport or something like that during tensions between Graves and Jerry maybe those were just rumours.
Best video you guys have ever done! Bo your hair is looking sweet and sexy in my hometown. Thanks gentlemen. And a big thank you to this amazing guest.
thumbnail hit me like a freight train. A guy wearing a Jake Roberts shirt, another guy wearing a sleeveless Celtic Frost shirt and they're both talking about unreleased Misfits material. GAWDAMN!
1:18:45 How did they not immediately say Bobby Steele?😅 Were they listening?😂 Yeah, they would have allowed it if Doyle was credited for all of it. It couldn't happen though.
I disagree with your opinion on Walk Among Us. The record is the best produced album by the Misfits, for sure. You don't have to compare 12 Hits From Hell with Walk Among Us, because half of the records have not the same songs and it's a different time period. But if I have to choose the better versions of Skulls and I Turned Into A Martian, for example, than I would pick the Walk Among Us versions. By the way, I love both of them a lot. I think that they didn't put out 12 Hits in 1980 is, because of the Bobby Steel situation. They really wanted Doyle in the band and they don't wanted an album with Bobby on it, because of the music rights.
In response to Jerry being a cool guy, I’ve never met any of the Misfits except Graves on a solo acoustic tour gig. Us being dumb kids pretty much, asked him if he still talked to Jerry and replied in such an angry/loud way “F-ck Jerry Only” 😒 funny at the time, very telling over the years…take that how you will 🤷
Love the Misfits but 12 Hits was a mess. The songs are all available elsewhere. The bogus 5-piece lineup remix is goofy. It would have been better to go with the Bobby versions or maybe in a few instances where the Moyle version works better to go with that. But trying to force both guitarists versions to work together was a mistake. Not to diminish Tom's work. Static Age and The Box are excellent. The concept of a SA, (middle album), EAD trilogy of records is a good one . But 12 Hits would have been best as a Bobby-era album. Because that's what it was. OR digging up Glenn's Plan 9 WAU if it had to be a Moyle-era thing.
@@dwaynesundown2038 . . . also proving Tom's overall subtext here that he nearly plotzed when he realized Bobby's tracks were there too and that this is what made these recordings so special and unique. it's classic Misfits. the songs are great, Glenn's performance is excellent throughout, the recording and production are excellent. as usual Moyle is best as a mascot and not a guitarist.
So excited to check this out. One day Danzig is gonna be a guest and it will be legendary
A man can dream, but tha would be siiiiiiiiick
I think it would be a 5 hour episode for real. The boys would geek tf out
I hate to be Debbie downer, but Glenn is not a great interview
Lol no. We don't need him on the show.
This is from 1986, but it's VERY informative.

As a Misfits fan since age 14 (I am now 51) this was SO awesome! Cheers!
Man, this was such an interesting episode. Some real ass lore. Putting it up there with Parris' interview.
The best thing about Misfits: Glenn Danzig.
The worst thing about Misfits: Glenn Danzig.
Saint Bo the Learned and Saint Colin the Sleeveless continue to bless us with the holiest and hardest of lore. God bless you boys.
Tom is the man!! Thank you soooo much for giving us In The Doorway, Static Age as a whole, 12 Hits From Hell, and Scream With Me!
Great listen.. i had found a copy of a bootleg 12 hits on vinyl, decided to get jerry to sign it..man his expression on his face when i asked 😂 he did sign it 😅
So nice of Wes BOrland to cohost this episode with Colin!
Thats a good one! I was tryna think of a good joke but I couldn’t think of someone he reminded me of but now i cant unsee it😂😂
If I could give you guys 138 likes, I would. Thank you for tracking down and interviewing Tom!
12 Hits puts Walk Among Us to shame. I got a repro of the CD off eBay, looks almost identical to the real thing. 10/10 album.
It is I got a bootleg of 12 hit from hell on cd off Discogs such a phenomenal album best sounding Misfits album out there in my opinion
Mind blowing episode for me, being a Misfits fan. Rock On!
AWESOME video! Thank you!!! Would love a part 2, to hear more about the canceled projects, like that 7 inch box set.

Thanks for this. I’ve been a fan since ‘93. I grew up near Lodi so I always heard the legends and lore from around the way.
Got any funny stories with them?
A truly fangtastic episode. Seriously. Cheers for this 🦇🍻

AAA+ interview, crazy stories from the Misfits world
Fascinating lore, up there with the Parris interview. I'll treasure my copy of 12 hits!
I learned so much new stuff today. This was truly enlightening! Thanks for another great episode boys.
Blown away by this. Please bring Tom back for more.
Thank you for this enterview.
Listening to Bobby's recording of 12 Hits, I just had to relearn how some of those songs are played. Halloween especially..
a legitimately amazing watch. thanks guys
My god, this is the hardest of lore yet. Great job guys.
I believe the original name of “Spinal remains” was “Feline Nursery”
Tom is definitely a HERO for his work!
that’s an interesting way to look at it
He's a leach and so is Caroline Records and the lawyers who made this happen. All parasitic leaches
Great episode! Always wanted to know why this wasn’t released. Best unreleased album.
12 Hits from Hell is a great release especially with the addition of Bobby Steele. The songs sound so much more fuller, production was top notch and Glenns vocals are phenomenal.Henry Rollins claims this too be the best record they never released
My favorite Misfits discs are disc 3 from the box set and 12 Hits. To think they had issues with the 12 Hits artwork, pfft. Tom did an awesome job!
To obtain a physical copy of this would be a dream come true
There's Bootleg copy's available
I bought one of the cds off ebay years ago. Not sure how legit it is. I'll have to search discogs to see.
I feel like I say this a lot but this is the best episode y'all have ever done. So much lore.
Such an awesome listen. Crazy intriguing. Could not stop listening.
Bo ya gotta cut it with the peeking to see what’s outta frame that bit KILLS me every time dog
Thank you for this episode cuz I didn’t know how much I needed only living witness in my life

I've asked for a new Hardlore episode and got a masterclass.

Best misfits lore interview ever
As great a job as Acey Slade does live, we all know it should be Bobby Steele standing on that stage playing those songs with them.
...or Franche' Coma!
@ exactly. They could switch off and make it a thing. Why the hell not?!?!! As the cable guy says “there’s no end to the possibilities!!!”
With all due respect, I doubt there is any cooperation of any kind between Bobby and Jerry (moreso than Bobby and Glenn).

@@mushroomleg ...well, untill then-I'm just happy to be there!
INSANELY cool episode
Best band to ever do it. Best episode yet for me
Seen the Misfits live twice (both singers), Samhain once, & Danzig 5x. Amazing live every time. I wish there were more live bootlegs than there are.
I love walk among us. All hell breaks loose is one of their best songs.
28:24 Umm, then how do you explain the recent "Studio Outtakes 1978-1979" release? 🤣which is awesome btw
I think those might be outfakes...mixed to sound like demos ( i heard those and ibwas reminded of some beatles boots made the same way)
Glenn hates Bobby Steele thats why 12 Hits From Hell is unreleased.
This was great
BRB checking out that Undead Album
saw the misfits in 2000 with Zoli from Ignite singing. I actually think he did a good job. He was also jacked at the time so he fit the aesthetic. They were benching in the parking lot before the show which was also amazing

“Heeeeeeere’s this movie I watched. I watched it at my house.” is gonna permanently infiltrate my lexicon when it comes to the Misfits lmao
Best video you guys have ever done! Bo your hair is looking sweet and sexy in my hometown. Thanks gentlemen. And a big thank you to this amazing guest.
Crazy that he’s from Lancaster, that’s only an hour from me.
Lore is hardest in the morning
Just a damn shame that this band can't ever get out of their own way.
This is great info..
Stoked
it was today I learned 12 hits from hell was recorded less than 5 minutes from my house
Bo is not only in Portland but his hair and style looks 100% Portland

anyone know where i can hear rollins breaking down each track from 12 hits?

The Samhain boxset was better than the Misfit boxset from a visual standpoint by far.
The misfits flag show in la was like that cause one club was smaller than the other.
Mabuhay Gardens/On Broadway was in San Francisco.
Can you imagine how pissed Glenn was when he saw that ugly ass cover? Holy shit.
fuck yea im so excited to listen to this

Thankfully the album has been bootlegged & most fiends have a copy.
well.. fuck work I guess.
Best bootlegs are the boot brigade. They do everything from misfits to sade'. You're welcome.
Soooo…are These 12 songs on static age or….12 unheard songs or…🤷🏻♀️
What dont these guys get that they didnt have the money to put out a lp. No one wanted punk rock back then.
1:38:23 what is he talking about
only living witness - innocents probably talking about vinyl liner notes
