That first beam you showed is STEVE! Seen him during both the may show as well as this past week. This year has been crazy good for the aurora, I feel so incredibly lucky every time I get to see them.
Yeah I've seen Steve in Iceland and Canada. So stoked to now have seen him here too! What a blessing hey, it's so special. Glad you've experienced it too :)
My first thought too! Enjoyable video as always even if you have gone over to the dark side. But then I suppose the dark side is where you need a tripod.
Ahh nice one - thanks for sharing your trip out and your images. I have decided that next time there is a good chance of an aurora to stuff work and get somewhere to shoot it!!!
Thank you for sharing this one. I'm from Philadelphia and what a treat to see Te Anau again, brought me right back. I did some stargazing and astro in April from Eglinton Flats... no lights, but probably the best stars I'll see for a long, long time 🤩
Good work, not a lot of people would have had the fore sight to do an exposure of the foreground for some of those photos, although it must be exciting when such an event happens in front of your eyes.
Thanks mate. Yeah, not my first rodeo so it's just second nature now but when people start out they are most incline to tilt the camera to the sky and neglect subject matter altogether haha.
Absolutely beautiful! I just discovered you and I really like your videos. I just moved out of Alaska and used to photograph the auroras in my backyard. I was out shooting and had a moose walk right up behind me and he followed me home. I couldn’t venture far on my own after that. I miss it so much. It’s nice to see it from New Zealand. Also, I haven’t used photoshop just Lightroom classic, now I’m going to try editing some of them differently thanks to you. Anyway hello from Seattle Washington.
Brilliant we went to Iceland from the uk to try and see and photograph the light we was there for 4 days in the wintertime and never saw anything in may we in the uk had a fantastic display I slept through the entire night and missed them then Monday night I finally got to photograph them through our bedroom window lol you couldn’t make it up 😅
Hey William-I'm really enjoying all your videos here on TH-cam. That night back in May was so special with the Aurora. I was lucky enough to see and photograph a spectacular display here in Oregon, USA. Hope to see another one soon.
Stunning images! I used to live in northern Minnesota and I would get up at 2AM, 3AM to drive out of town and see the aurora. It was crazy cold. I was feeling your pain while watching this but it's really worth it.
Yes it was amazing alright back in may. I took my canon 6 D out to birding’s flat even tho it’s considered an old camera now But still awesome camera for Astro and night stuff. Drove out to location and realise I didn’t put my battery in the camera 😂😂 so the good ol iPhone 15 did the trick. And I see the same beautiful beams of light . Wasn’t even properly dark and they started. I was in a nice little hidden spot overlooking the lake. Bt I think half of Christchurch drove out to Birdings that night.
I wisdom aurora for the first time, last May in Quebec, Canada! It was so impressive! Your pictures are beautiful. The landscape one with the low cloud that passed through the mountains (at 8:40) is stunning. Wow!
They’re all the same really, the forecasting for space weather isn’t extremely accurate. The one I use is Aurora Alerts. Watch the other video I have to see what to look for.
I love your honesty in sharing your approach to your work.
Thanks brother. Tried to get my mate to come on this one but he was busy sleeping 🤪
Amazing stuff Will from this epic night

Amazing work!! Incredible scenes will 😍 I’d love to see a video on how to blend the 2 exposures together! with the auroras I find it hard 😣
I see the aurora from my garden couple nights a go. England

So good mate. Will be hard to top that event that’s for sure, although this recent one was pretty special too :)
William you are from New Zealand itself?

Australian born but reside in NZ. Thanks mate.

Haha thanks mate! No pain though, it’s all good fun! Just a bit tired the next day 😂
@@WilliamPatinoPhotography It was the -25 fahrenheit that got me more that the time of morning, but yeah, it's tiring the next day.
Beautiful. :)
Thank you! Cheers!
Wow... absolutely incredible.

We got William Patino using a tripod before GTA 6.
😂😂😂
Hi Will. What Aurora forecasting app do you find best?
