I haven't quite got on with doing sky replacements yet, but instead I take lots of pictures of skies and then replace my foreground with Gavin's photos. So far people are pretty impressed. Definitely looking forward to more editing/processing tips though.
First time seeing your channel. I loved the ending where you ask for some feedback! From the accent, I assume you are British, and your British humor comes shining through! Liked and subscribed. Can’t wait for more content, and you ‘giving me the eye!’
Great info Gavin, I appreciate the walk through and work flow that gets the results you are looking for. I'm a luminar fan so I don't necessarily recognize the tools but the thought process makes sense and is easily adapted to NEO. Thanks
Hey, Gavin. Yes definitely a video on Laminar Neo! Always wondered how you got your sunlight to look so natural. (The sunlight on the Canadian Rockies always looked just right!) Thrilled you’re doing videos on post processing! Thank you!
Hi Gavin: I really enjoyed this video. I really appreciated how you included your thought process behind why you were making the edits you did. I am not a Luminar Neo user but I would certainly be interested in seeing how this application performs. Personally, I use Capture One Pro most of the time because I like how it renders Sony files. Cheers, Keith (Barrie, Ontario)
Good stuff Gavin; now I get to spend even more time watching the Hardcastle Broadcast Network. I would have liked to see how PS would have done removing only the camera bag.
I hope this takes off for you Gavin as it would be great to get some insights on your approach to post processing. I have already picked up a lot of processing tips from watching many of your past videos ( have watched all Fototripper from episode 1). I don't comment as much as I would like but I watch the videos in the evening with the TH-cam app on the TV which really doesn't let you comment. Love the videos and high jinx as you make photography fun. If it isn't fun, then what is the point!
Fantastic, i am delighted for you starting this new channel, a perfect compliment to your main one! Smashing tutorial, i only just recently started using the sky replacement tool so i was happy to see watch this ! 👍 Cheers!
I like the pace you give the instructions, not at 100mph like some other TH-camrs. This is easy to follow and very helpful. Even I learned something from this and I've been using Photoshop for years. 👍
Great start Gavin. I weak on multi layer stuff, so will be learning a lot. Yet to be convnced that Neo offers anything over Lightroom Classic and Photoshop, but interested to see what it can do.
Hey Gavin, I’ve bought a couple of your tutorials which are excellent, you do these instructionals very well and I think this channel is a great idea, good luck with it.
Thanks Gavin! Good idea of creating such a channel, I'm all for it! Whereas I'm not a fan of sky replacement (I don't fancy go that far into editing photos), the rest of the process is interesting for such photos (I have a bunch like this from Ireland and UK) Cheers!
All of you pro photographers are very very good at Photoshop. I tend to stick to Lightroom (not classic) I actually have had very good success with Lightroom. I have become almost at the same level, however I use different presses than you guys to get the same result. I did notice that the sky at the top was grey compared to the slight blue hue at the bottom. It looked slightly out of place to the rest of the sky, however it really looked amazing compared to the original. Great tutorial. Looking forward to more technical jibber jabber techniques. Cheers Gavin.
Great instruction. Thank you! I've done sky replacement, but I'm still quite the beginner with layers, so seeing your approach is very helpful. Yes, a video on doing it in Luminar! Much appreciated.
I’m glad to see this. I’m a very, VERY amateur photographer and love to see yours and others photo tips. Now to see your editing technique and try to apply it to the tools I use, PS Elements and ON1. Thank you for sharing your experience. 😊
Nice to see. I do not do postprocessing myself, not because I am a purist but because I am lazy and rather crappy at those things. Good video, love the sarcasm :D
Love it - With a lot of people currently dumping 🙋♂ the evil Adobe empire, very glad to hear that you'll be including alternatives such as Luminar Neo in future videos. Good luck with this new venture
Thanks Gavin, Very informative. I personally use On1 photo raw for edits but I can use these methods with that. The only thing I noticed that looked a little odd is the sky on the left side between the building and fence looks like there is a square with checker board like a transparent layer. Maybe it's just my monitor. But I loved the video. Looking forward to more great videos.
I just came here to give you a 👍. I don't have photoshop as yet but hopefully my brain will absorb all this knowledge so when I do purchase it, it'll spew it all out like a robot😅
I would love you to show NEO sky replacements, in fact lots of NEO adjustments, your explanations on your other channels are superb and I've subscribed and now I've done the same here
Great idea Gav. Could learn a bit from it. I've never been a fan of sky replacement. To me it's like using part of someone-else's photo to make yours look better. We have all learnt of many years, and seen many court cases of plagiarising someone-else's work. Me, if I'm in that situation, I would minimise the crappy bits. You have all the tools to go up, down, left, right, in, and out. Great new channel. Keep up the good work.
I do like to keep it as all my own work. However, nothing to stop you using your own sky? Take some correctly exposed for the sky shots on the same day as your main composition can correct for a blown out flat sky, or clear blue.
Hi Gavin, love the fototripper channel and looking forward to more videos in this channel. 1 question i rarely see answered by photographers: How do you select/sort the hundreds of photos after a trip. We all know you are a great photographer but i doubt you come home with just 15 awesome photos that are focus stacked and have 3 final photos to choose from. So if you could do a video on that (and how you keep track of a serie of stacked photos) that would be really interesting. Cheers, Dennis (Netherlands)
Gavin thanks so much for showing your editing process. ive only just started using PS. And man I'm struggling. my little peanut brain aint getting it lol... so please please please I hope you continue this new channel....👍
I’ve always been a bit intimidated to start editing in Photoshop. I do everything on my iPad Pro in Lightroom mobile. This channel should help me immensely. Love the idea of keeping tutorials on a separate channel!
Originally I was against sky replacements. My thoughts on post processing has changed a bit these days and I do them from time to time. I think this format will be a success. There are plenty of folks who will benefit from a few tips here and there.
Like it, you started this new channel 🎉. I hope it’s ok to share a hint from another X2D user. If you use the 3fr files in ACR always check the lens profile, you achieve a massive improvement, edge to edge sharpness, CR removed etc. Just mentioning it, because it’s not checked at 1:55. Don’t use fff files with ACR, only with Phocus. If you want to achieve halo free clarity and details use Phocus, even if it needs some learning curve to get used to it. If you finished developing the image in Phocus, send it from there directly to Photoshop or into a tiff (all 16 bit), the tiff offers the possibility to use Affinity Photo (for those who are not comfortable with Adobe as company). Bridge can luckily handle all files, except for .afphoto, it does (deliberately?) not show the thumbnail preview of that file type. Affinity Photo can save tiff with layers, but .afphoto is much better and 1000 x faster when saving.
I'll give it a try. This tutorial is more about sky replacements than a RAW workflow. In many cases I actually prefer NOT to use lens profile corrections because on certain files you lose sharpness. If I was doing a RAW workflow tute I'd advise people to try and see it if looks better. If it doesn't, leave it off. I tired Phocus but quickly got annoyed by the UI. I'll maybe give it another try at some point.
Back in the day - two versions of the RAW, one for the foreground, one for the sky. Blend the two. Thereby having the actual sky with the correct lighting for the foreground.
@@fototripperstudio Early days of RAW, mid life crisis of Photoshop. These days, I suppose the AI functions would, given a few days, work something out. And then was PS Elements, not full fat PS, Elements not having adjustment layers a few work arounds were needed. A single tool to remove chromatic aberration! What will they think of next?
rather than right click to create clipping mask you can alt click between the layers..... feel like it saves about 0.1 seconds. Great content as always...entertaining, engaging and informative. Would you care to elaborate on why you chose bridge and photoshop over Light room ?
P.S. Yes to a series using Luminar as well. Maybe a series of beginner stuff that could lead us to one of your Masterclass programs available for purchase :))
These are brilliant lessons, Gavin thank you very much Question can Luminar and all the other apps you’re showing be added within Photoshop or do they have to be used as separate programs Could you also show us how you do your woodland photography. Thank you for your time and patience
Hi Paul, yes you can pass files from Photoshop into laminar by using it as a plugin. Check my back catalog as there are quite a few videos of woodland photography.
Congrats on the new channel! =] Probably good to keep that content separate from the main channel. Hope this does well, since I am always eager to learn from you!
Cool new channel Gavin. A good video would be how to avoid differences on patterns in the image where you use AI to remove or add stuff. Sometimes you dont notice but specially on cleaner surfaces or with some textures, you will notice that there is a different pattern on color or texture that if you know what you ate looking at, you can see that something was done there that is not original. Sometimes this is specially noticeable when you have a high resolution file, with 40+ mp. I've been doing some try and error with removing noise or adding noise and it works, as adding or removing noise will "hide" the differences but not always. Sometimes for you to notice the differences no matter what. Try to crank up the clarity or dehaze or even contrast and starts to become obvious where you used AI in some images,
Great concept to broaden your viewership and provide a very useful service for those needing additional step-by-step tutorials. Perhaps you can use the content aware feature and complete your church conversion project with the click of a button 😂. Now that would get a huge thumbs up response!
I use Photoshop CS6 That is now quite old, and it does not have the sky replacement tool. I own my copy and don't quite wish to move to the subscription option. I did pick up an inpulse buy of Luminar Neo (and I used your link and discount code!) - I would love to see your take on this sky replacement in Neo!
Interesting video. Unfortunately some people go too far with sky replacement. A few days ago, I saw a picture of a sunset over Château Frontenac in Quebec city from a photographer who claimed to be a pro and who wrote how lucky he was of having shot that photo with this beautiful sunset… the only problem… his sun was setting in the north…
This is the best sky replacement video period
I haven't quite got on with doing sky replacements yet, but instead I take lots of pictures of skies and then replace my foreground with Gavin's photos. So far people are pretty impressed. Definitely looking forward to more editing/processing tips though.

The sunlight on the Rockies (BC or Alberta) is spectacular. Gavin does a great job but to see it for real is an experience.
I never thought of using opacity on a sky replacement! That helped the blend quite a bit.
Hi Gavin, the Luminar Neo processing would be great to see, thank you. 😎👍
The sky fits perfect to the scene. Glad to see you on a new channel. I'm looking forward to the next videos 👍
Great vid Pal! I feel that a few unicorns would have fit perfectly in the scene tho :-)
Super tips

Luminar neon version would be good please , loving the fototripper channel and the new studio channel looking good thanks
Hey Gavin, I’ve bought a couple of your tutorials which are excellent, you do these instructionals very well and I think this channel is a great idea, good luck with it.
I love this concept Gavin, I like the idea of the "field work" and the "studio work" on separate channels. Nice!

Oh, fun to watch other photographers do their processing. Congrats on your new channel. Enjoy watching all your stuff. Amanda‘s pretty funny too.👏
Well done Gavin. Simple, well organized, and presented slow enough for an easy follow!

Great video. It would be good to see how you would process the sane image in Luminar Neo so we could have a comparison with PS

thought I knew how to do this all,,but u showed me some new tricks. Didnt know about the clipping trick

Great video, thank you. Excited for your new channel!
Love it! Good luck with the new channel.
Had to drop a comment to say this new channel is awesome and I love that you are having a special space for videos like these.
Thanks Jennifer.
I would like to see you do a full edit on Luminar Neo. 👍
Many thanks for sharing that, I have started collecting my own sky packs
Great video you make it look really easy, could I vote for something similar in Affinity Photo please…
Nice little tutorial - looking forward to more.
Great delivery👍

Brilliant as always Gavin - highly informative content.
Good stuff Gavin! Looking forward to see how this channel and series evolves. Keep up the good work! Cheers.
I think you'll be pretty good at this.
Finally. I might be able to get my head around photoshop. Thank you.
Id love to see this in Luminar Neo as I don’t really use layers and masking on it yet.
Hey Gavin. Cheers on the new channel. Luminar Neo… yes please.
