There is no verifocal zoom on the Reolink TrackMix (only the RLC-823A has verifocal zoom). It has a 4K lens and a 1080p 2.6x fixed optical zoom lens, it will digitally zoom up to 6x. The jerking can be slowed down with the PTZ speed setting, I lowered my PTZ speed below 20. It will go up to 64 if you want to make the jerking worse. The AI tracking needs better firmware, it will get confused by parked cars or 2 moving objects. Sometimes it will see a moving object, but lock onto a neighbors parked car. It needs adjustable pan limits to prevent it from over rotation and looking at the wall. Reolink does not have full support for 3rd party recording software yet, I can only record the 4K lens on Synology, nothing from the 2.6x lens or digital zoom.
I've seen this herky-jerky motion on several TrackMix videos and I mentioned it to Reolink, they said they are looking at it. I wonder if that's why the camera has been delayed. At least the pan motor doesn't screech like on the 823A.
That is one thing why I left the audio in on several clips to hear the audio and lack of motor noise. That was pretty slick. I do get the struggles to stop movement at this long distance as it is a fine balance of not being fast enough or being too fast and jerky. But of course I wanted to mention everything I saw whether good or bad.
@@digiblurDIY I have a super-zoom camera that I bought on AliExpress two years ago that does optical zooming while tracking. The noise from the motors is practically non-existent and the panning is very smooth. I paid the same price for that camera as what the TrackMix is supposed to sell for. While it's "only" 5MP, the image quality is excellent and the IR illuminators really kick out the light. I don't hate Reolink cameras, but they definitely could do better, especially with the ghosting at night and third-party hardware and software compatibility.
Fully agree there! I will continue to always point out the codec issues, lack of options there in said codec screen, etc. Way too many issues and fragmentation of various model firmwares etc to recommend the use of them on any software NVR products. Unfortunate but that's the way it is, cut and dry.
Thanks! They did fix a couple things in firmware since the video like the NVR is showing both channels now. I still use the camera today and haven't had any major issues. He loves helping with videos!
Thanks for this video! I just had 4 of these Trackmix cameras installed yesterday, all leading to the 8 port reolink NVR. However, just like you mention, I don't see both camera feeds. I only see one. Also, the instructions show a setting to choose the tracking method, but that setting is not in the NVR or app. I'm trying to do a USB firmware update, but they're stupid update file is a .pak file, which I can't figure out how to unzip/extract. I've tried many different unzip programs, but nothing works. Have you heard anything about them releasing an update for this issue yet? And how the hell did you do your firmware updates and unzip the downloaded files? Thank you!
so a lot to unpack here ;) You can see both in the NVR if the latest update is on it with the PIP but you won't see it on the app/phone deal from what I found. Put the PAK file on the USB stick, put it in the NVR USB port. Then do a local upgrade option for the camera.
@@digiblurDIY thanks, I finally made some progress. So what confused me was that their online instructions told me I needed to extract or unzip the pak file before trying to upgrade. So I spent an hour trying many different unzip programs but none would unpack it. Support got back to me and told me to do what you said which is just put the pak file directly on the usb, and that worked. Once I did the upgrade on the NVR and the cameras, I could finally see both cameras. However now my issue is it is not combining the two views into one smooth video. It just shows both cameras separately. But on all the video reviews I've watched, it shows both cameras sort of splice together as the person is walking by. I sent another email to support to see if they can tell me how to combine the two cameras into one view.
Great video. I see that ReoLink has a new firmware for this camera that fixes the problems in Blue Iris, and Frigate has some instructions on their site for optimizing settings. I'd be really curious to know if those are enough to make this acceptable to use with those tools.
I just received this camera and installed it but the client and mobile app doesn't show the dual screens. Only when viewing from the nvr itself do I have that option. Was there anything you had to do to get that to work on your end or is there an updated client / version of the app that's needed?
If it is plugged into the NVR I had that issue and I talked about it a bit that they need to fix that software issue. I had to plug the camera into my router/switch so the NVR and mobile apps could get both feeds.
Five Months Later... Is it worth buying? Software issues fixed? I own several Reolink 4k cameras, including their Duo 2 poe... (Not impressed). Any advice/feedback before I make a foolish purchase is greatly appreciated.
If you have the Reolink NVR, it isn't a bad buy. They did add the PIP and two channels to the NVR now. Glad to see that fixed. I still use mine. I do believe it had a recent firmware update in December.
how long does it record if person detected, does it stop after one minute? if you want to record conitnuously 24/7 regardless of motion, does it do that?
Yep. Plus I think it doesn't have stopping power on the motors enough. I am picky though but I would like to see it improve and wanted to point it out.
@@CraigMullins1 mine never shakes, but it was easier to watch the tracking with PTZ speed turned down. I question the mounting location and screws. The LifeHackster video did not shake. I'll have the Solar TrackMix this weekend to test next to the PoE TrackMix.

Yes. The AI jerking is what we are talking about.
You can record the other lens by using the correct URL but the stream is kind of buggy even on VLC.
@@digiblurDIY Great video! Do you know if we can remove the inbuilt Ethernet/Power connection and replace with single Ethernet connection?

Amazing quality recording. Very impressed 👍

Just like my new vehicle purchase has been... Delayed big time.

I have to say no unless you rreallllllly want this specific camera. Reolink has a long way to go to fix their firmware codecs.

I would like to see your opinion on the smoothness of the PTZ if you slow it down to 20 or so in the settings
I tried messing with that but it seemed to only impact the manual PTZ controls.
Are there any shutter speed or gain adjustment as the ghosting looks terrible?
No. That's not really in the Reolink realm. That's more Dahua cameras.
