    My big point with this whole video is to make a point clear that many dealership SAs and PALS don't know that it is not their job in these instances to make a call as to whether or not something is warantable or not .... DEALERS .....DO YOURSELF A FAVOR FOR BOTH YOUR CUSTOMERS AND CXI .... LET THE MOTORCOMPANY DECIDE WHAT IS WARRANTABLE AND WHAT IS NOT AND WORK YOUR COLLECTIVE BUTTS OFF FOR YOUR CUSTOMER !!!! Your video was right on the $$$ I see what you mean what happens at THE HD dealership level,it should like you say about customer service especially if you bought your bike there and parts and done services for years with your local dealership!!! BTW..my service rider told me that HD mechanics don't like doing warranty work because it's by the book time and the mechanics hate it because they don't make any good $$$ because they can't bullshit a customer into something just because the service writer and his mechanics are buddy buddy..WINK WINK!!😁😁😂😂🤔

    I feel like if you're the type of person that has to take your bike to the dealer for every little thing, leave it stock. Otherwise get out there, ride it like you stole it and upgrade it everytime you break it 👍🏻

    Bought a 2021 Street Bob FXBBS 114 brand new in March of "21. The motor wasn't right from day one and I tried to have the bike picked up by the dealer and got ghosted twice. I took it to another HD shop and they said they couldn't find anything wrong. I've got enough history with bikes and engines to know when something ain't right. At this point I decided to upgrade and ride it like I didn't care and if it blew up I'd deal with it and Harley. Thousand mile service time and by now I had an Arlen Ness air cleaner and Bassani 2 into 2 pipes with a SE Pro Street Tuner Stage 1 tune on it. The head breathers were rerouted to a catch can. My HD shop upgraded the 1K service to include all synthetic oil in all 3 boxes. Less than 150 miles later after a 100 mile trip the bike had used 3/4 of a quart of engine oil and my analog gauge was reading almost 0 oil pressure within minutes of start up. I got the dealer to come get the bike on a Sunday (a 12 pack of PBR and the fact that I knew the guy who drove their transporter helped out here.) Almost 3 weeks later the mechanic tore into it and the rear cylinder was destroyed, something wrong with the rings and a 1/2 wide groove in the cylinder from top to bottom. I will shorten this story up. Another 3 weeks passes by and 3 days ago I go pick up my Street Bob 122ci. SE Stage III with the SE intake and for $631 I'm out the door. I got warranty credits for the upgrades. I have no idea how much crap went on behind the curtain but I know if this had happened late last year or early this year HD would not have offered to pay for anything. The times they are a changing. This bike will rock you with the 122 stage III, I like it and I've got a 12 month warranty on the rebuild pipes and all. It's a strange new world we live in.

    Based on the new warranty info I received after the FTC consent order, it explicitly states that the Power Train warranty is "voided" if a non EPA compliant tuner is used on the bike. I have a new Dynojet Power Vision 4 sitting on my desk till I get the cojones to say F it and do the tune.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, it says that, and it said it for the last 5 years, but as Hoodie pointed out, he's gotten a lot of things covered anyway, by calling Techc Services. But if the clutch cable goes out, or there is a transmission seal leaking, the Service Advisor can (should) call Tech Services and point out that there is no way the tuner caused those problems, and it should get covered under warranty.
      The EPA is trying to give some teeth to the emissions of a tuner, but that does not invalidate the MM Act, or simple common sense, that a tuner does not cause a clutch cable to break or a seal in the transmission to start leaking or xyz.

      @Kevin from DK: I saw a transmission warranty claim rejected on the basis that the aftermarket tune caused hotter engine running which had a flow-on effect to the transmission (i.e. transmission was hotter too) and it caused premature failure. Now we all know that it’s absolute horse shit but trying to disprove Harley’s claims in court is fruitless and so the customer took their bike elsewhere for a transmission rebuild.

    Why is it that service advisors don’t explain what modification that you as a customer want to have done to your bike might void your warranty! I’ve gone to one dealer for service and have bought 4 bikes from this dealer and not “ONCE” has the service advisor given me any advise other than when I can pick up the bike! No advice for anything on any of my bikes!

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  ปีที่แล้ว

      Can't answer that question for you.
      On the rare occasions when I go to a Dealership I try and only speak with someone that has been there a long time, someone who still thinks like a mechanic, not a parts changer. I also am not shy about asking questions...if I start getting answers that are patently wrong, or that show the person I'm talking to does not really understand the bikes they are selling or servicing, I quit wasting my time with them and find someone that does know, even if it means a different Dealership.

    1. So why is the company still blocking vins and what is their continuing reason to do so? 2. how does a customer know if the dealership reported any modifications or if their vin is blocked ?
    3. Where does it state in the warranty language whom has the responsibility to provide evidence & proof to honor the repair or void it?

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1. They are blocking vins because there are things one can do that would cause a valid warranty issue. The list is endless, a few examples- installing a stereo system that takes more power than the battery or charging system can handle, competitive racing, turbo charger, running a velocity stack with no filter, and thousands more.
      1b. Go to any dealership and have them punch in your VIN, it will come up blocked or not blocked.
      2. Harley Warranty must comply with the Magnuson Moss Consumer Protection Act. You can google that to get the wording. You can see in the following video that the FTC has ordered Harley, with the threat of LARGE FINES, to stop their illegal practices and abide by the MM act.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question that we should have covered in the video.
      What did not make the edit was our conversation that he had never had one that he attempted to get covered that was not covered.
      HOWEVER, he had plenty of times when a Customer wanted something to be covered, that he knew should not be covered, so he never attempted to get it covered.
      One example is a Customer that had an independent shop install some aftermarket handlebars. In the process some of the wiring got messed up, and the Customer wanted the damaged wiring covered under warranty. Of course, he never submitted that for warranty work because it was damaged by the other shop making a mistake.
      Another example he gave was a Customer with a tuner, which resulted in a blocked VIN. At some point, later, the Customer installed and S&S camplate and the bushing spun, which ended up sending brass all thru the engine. This was a failure of a non-Harley part and there was no reasonable justification for Harley fixing damage caused by the aftermarket part, so he never attempted that. If he had, he would have rightly been denied.
      You are correct, the default answer by most dealership and my MoCo seems to be it's not covered. It takes a pro-active Service Manager to go to bad on behalf of the Customer...and if they are asking something that is fair, they do seem to take care of it.

      Yes, it still all comes down to humans that can think LOGICALLY (as Hoodie mentioned in the video) and take pride in their work. The interesting about the tire warranty is I brought a 2009 Harley Heritage Classic New. It had a bad compensator within 500 miles and a flat spot on the rear tire, causing the spokes to constantly loosen on the rear tire and a bad vibration in the balanced engine. compensator was replaced under warranty. Never could get the Harley dealership to own up to the bad tire and spokes coming loose or the vibration. I drove it for 15,000 miles I put a new tire on it by my local motorplex dealer on the rear wheel, re-trued the rear wheel on my dime, took it original dealership and another dealership with no success. The vibration was said to be normal by them. I have ridden a 2003 Softail Standard, it didn’t have the odd vibration. Now have a new 2022 Street Bob 114 balanced motor with no odd vibration. Plus different Harley dealer.

    It really depends on the the knowledge and attitude of the dealer (as you said). Years ago I was told that if I did not have the bike serviced at the dealership this would invalidate the warranty. I have always purchased a workshop manuals and carried out all the maintenance myself. I called HD head office and asked is this was true. I was told by the person who answered the telephone that if I serviced the bike myself the warranty would be voided. I asked her to check with the companies lawyers or technical department if what she said was true and to contact me in writing to confirm this.. Twenty minutes later they called me back to say I could service the bike myself and this would not affect the warranty.

    This really needs to be figured out with harley. This has been a nightmare for some people. And it would have been for me if I had any major issues come up.
    I had only a PV on my bike. Took it up to get the lights flashed. Fogs on with hi beam. I wasn't concerned with warranty. But that dealer was certain it would be no issue. As soon as he plugged it in he was surprised. It flagged it. Fast forward a year later my clutch was slipping. I planned to do it myself but I did call around to see what dealers would say. 8 dealers in Michigan... 400 miles in each direction told me nothing would be covered because my warranty was void or flagged. . 2 of them told me power train only. others told me nothing on the bike would be covered. I didn't care to push the issue but maybe someone could if they wanted something fixed. But I'm sure alot of people have received the short end of the stick for this lack of communication...or training..or whatever it is.

      That is old news about the warranty being voided...a little over a year ago the FTC cracked down on Harley for their illegal warranty practices. Here is a video on the subject- th-cam.com/video/M-QdwkZ3_RQ/w-d-xo.html
      The only things they can block a VIN for is an aftermarket tuner (and the M8's don't need one), for towing a trailer, and for any aftermarket parts that cause a HD part to fail.
      So it is NOT a warranty issue to service your own Harley. They must go back to honoring the Magnuson Moss Act. If any dealership says otherwise, they should be reported to the FTC.
      I hope that you move forward and let them know that they can not void your warranty for servicing your own bike.
      If you are not comfortable calling them out on their illegal voided warranty, then you may want to look at an aftermarket warranty that will cover all Harley parts and added after market parts as well. Here is a video on that subject - th-cam.com/video/Hqkxag-S1a8/w-d-xo.html

    Harley warranty on used bikes is one of the biggest scams I’ve seen a large Corp pull.
    It’s interesting that YOU can’t remove the cat header, but Harley will gut it with an SE in-house upgrade.
    “Doesn’t necessarily mean” - don’t waste your money. 3yrs @ $2500 example.. that $2500 is a lot of bullet proofing/getting rid of HD junk.
    Kinda sorta maybe.. “doesn’t necessarily”,
    he said it.
    Sounds like a trip to the casino

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I don't even mess with the HD Warranty, I get one that fully covers everything on the bike for a fraction of the HD cost of an ESP. See video here- th-cam.com/video/Hqkxag-S1a8/w-d-xo.html

  • @seniorp9444
    @seniorp9444 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Any mod made outside the engine, including changing header, should have no impact on the engine and should not effect warranty. If they don’t “have time “ to get warranty approved then why do they have time to notice mods to the bike and report them to Harley?

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sounds like time to shop for a different Dealership, or get a warranty that covers all HD parts, plus whatever parts you add to the bike. That is what we do, see video here- th-cam.com/video/Hqkxag-S1a8/w-d-xo.html

    Great video, thanks guys! What if you have a tune, like an FP3 for example, but want to take your bike to the dealer for a service or repair, could you just plug the tuner back in and revert to the factory tune? Or, once a tuner is plugged in for whatever reason, will it always be flagged as blocked VIN?

    • @jasonrichardwatts
      @jasonrichardwatts 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’ll always flag it as any additional tune from stock is recorded in the ECU.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Up until a couple of years ago you could use a Power Vision to restore the original tune and there is NO record in the ECM that a Power Vision tune was ever installed. They could see that there was some other tune in it....but it could have been a HD approved tune...they had no way of knowing. I do not think the FP3 had this ability. I also believe that 2-3 years ago the PV no longer worked that way either.

  • @geedubb-q1u
    @geedubb-q1u ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I assume you can install as many performance mods as you want as long as they come from HD and Not a secondary vendor? That’s what it seems like to me, and the cost factors will go thru the roof not having the ability to use companies such as DK.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is what they want you to think, and the FTC issued a Ruling for Harley to cease they Illegal Warranty Practices. There is now a system in place to report Dealerships who are still illegally misrepresenting the HD warranty.

    Thanks for this info. My question is what problems can adding a aftermarket tuner, e.g., V&H FP4 actually cause? Thanks again.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      None, unless the wrong tune is flashed to the ECM and then run.
      Of course, the EPA does not like good tunes, but as of now, no State in the US are doing emissions testing on motorcycles.

    • @jasonrichardwatts
      @jasonrichardwatts 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Harley can theoretically claim that the aftermarket tune caused the drivetrain to run at less than optimal of what was OEM specced and engineered, leading to them denying the warranty and blaming the tuner.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jasonrichardwatts Yes, they can claim anything. But they have to prove it, and that is not able to be proved. Running less than optimal will not put more stress on the engine, clutch or transmission.
      NOW, if you put cams, or do headwork, etc., that is possible.
      AND, of course, if one puts the wrong tune in causing the engine to run too lean, that could cause a problem.

  • @wam1388
    @wam1388 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the question.
      We have a video with a HD Store Manager/previous Service Manager on the subject of the Pro Street Tuner, you can see it here- th-cam.com/video/wQ6EzilYjiI/w-d-xo.html
      There is no real benefit to the Pro Street Tuner, as noted in the video above, it will only tune to EPA compliance, and will Not give the best performance or cooling tune.
      I don't know if you have a Evolution, Twin Cam or M8 engine. If an M8, they are not too lean and do not need a tuner. You can see details on that in this video- th-cam.com/video/Lb_57Z_Ipms/w-d-xo.html
      Unless you are doing more than a Stage I upgrade on an M8, no tune is needed, and if you want a tune, the Pro Street Tuner is not going to be an improvement.
      Here is a video on our thoughts about tuning- th-cam.com/video/isBHK-Jy7Wk/w-d-xo.html
      If you are doing more than a Stage I on an M8, or if you have a Twin Cam or Evolution (Sportster), then getting a real tuner is the only way to get an improvement, but will also jeopardize the HD warranty...so the best thing is to get a real warranty that covers everything. You can see a video on that here- th-cam.com/video/p8U4XsHyBug/w-d-xo.html and another one here where we show how well the warranty works, even on non-HD parts- th-cam.com/video/Hqkxag-S1a8/w-d-xo.html

    Number one thing that has held me back, hence the XIED for now, but I'll bet HD will find that to be a flag as well since it codes the ECM w/trouble two codes but no engine code/light.
    Might have to take it off when I go into the dealer but shouldn't have to.
    Not sure I want to chance it.
    Might go with motorcycleagent but reading up on them, seems like you have to jump through some hoops before any thing gets worked on for warranty.

      I am sure laws vary country to country on what is covered and how it is enforced. In the US we have the Magnuson Moss Consumer Protection Act that makes a big difference. It is what the Federal Trade Commission based their order to Harley on a few months ago regarding their illegal warranty practices. See video on that here- th-cam.com/video/M-QdwkZ3_RQ/w-d-xo.html
      I know that does not help you in your country, but we have not done any research on warranty enforcement in other countries.

      I do not believe Harley has to treat their Customers any different in California than the other 49 States REGARDING the OEM warranty.
      You do not say what year and model bike you have, cannot comment on the exhaust and tune without that information.
      While the warranty is no different in Cali than other States, the State of Kalifornia has put shops and vendors on notice that they will fine them if they do things that do not comply with CARB. This is not a warranty issue, this is a Kalifornia CARB issue.
      Power Vision Tuners work perfectly fine on 2022 bikes, but I don't know of any vendors that will ship one to a Kali address, because of CARB.
