Thank you Sir for the video. I’ve been watching AGI videos for about 10 years now but haven’t been able to take the course yet. I came across SDI about a year ago but I drive a truck over the road and can’t dedicate the daily time SDI requires. This could be a doable 3rd option. I’ll definitely be checking out your content thanks again

Just started at MGS last month with their advanced course. So far I've been loving it and learned alot. One thing you mentioned that I find invaluable is the extra articles they include. I've been adding tabs to my modules whenever I come across a knowledge point that I was unaware of for future reference. Even though I've been dabbling for years theres always more to learn. PS the "Head Cheese" at GM A School is the Gunny ! GMM2 ASROC guy here.

I am in MGS on Unit 4 lesson 12, Advanced course. The one thing I do wish is more visual than reading everything. I paid in full and have the full 2 binders of lessons. They do give details in the program and I do like it. Just wish a little visual would help. It is a great school for the price. That is what you have to remember. I do recommend it.

Dave, thank you for the shout out in your video regarding your CAD program and how professional your drawings were on the Remington. By the way you did not butcher up my name. Lol.
As far as MGS I also am in my 2nd unit and have been quit impressed with the course work and the staff at Modern Gun School. Mike has been very good to work with. Infact I spoke to him about a question that was somewhat ambiguous and they took the time to look into it and evaluate it. Also, one flaw that surfaced was the ability to take a retest evan if you do better than a grade of 70. When doing so if your score was say a 90 or a 95 out of 100 it still let you take a retest and would default your score to the maximum score of a 70. I pointed this out to them and they immediately corrected the situation so you can only take a retest if your score is less than a 70.
They do have a downloadable suplimental unit on gun cleaning and on the AR-15 as a bonus.
Keep up the great work and your review of MGS just confirmed that I made the right choice with enrolling in their advanced program. Thanks again. You are greatly appreciated! Charles Bonanno

I went with MGS Advanced course and I have no regrets. Its not easy and your not buying a diploma or getting "paper certified". You will learn gunsmithing. I also recommend that you enhance your learning with other resources as you progress through the courses such as watching videos that you can find on here and buy hardcover and or kindle books, you will want to do that anyhow to start building up your library.

That's the one I've been leaning towards. It seems like a good balance of affordability and flexibility. The SDI just seems too expensive; for the price they charge, I could do brick and mortar. The Penn Foster seems a bit too dated and the AGS had a less genuine feel.

Thats awesome, i'm glad to hear you know of Chad, he's from Maryland. I've taken his newest 2 day AR armorer/build class. It was phenomenal and worth every penny. With the amount that man knows about the AR, he may very well be inspiring a whole new generation of gunsmiths, myself included.
Sadly I don't see much mention of actual modern firearms in the MGS curriculum. The AR-15 only has a brief section? I see glock 17. But what about AK, AR-10, Sig P series of modern handguns? Now i'm not trying to project my opinion on you or anyone, but i would mention that the lack of modern firearms coverage its pretty disappointing. Being that the purpose of the second amendment is not for sport, rather its for defending life and liberty, its pretty sad to see gunsmithing courses focus so heavily on sporting application weapons.

This was a great review that cleared up a lot of comparison issues I was having between choosing AGI or MGS. BLUF - AGI is not accredited so I cannot use my GI Bill. MGS is accredited, so those benefits will apply. I originally was leaning towards MDI, but they do not accept enrollments from people living in RI, NY or DC which is very disappointing. MDI could not explain why they do not accept enrollments from those states, so I'm going with MGS. Thank you and I look forward to seeing more great vids!

I haven't had a chance to finish this video, but am looking into several different schools as a basis for getting started in the gunsmithing industry. My question for you, sir, is what are your thoughts on these online based schools such as AGI, MGS, and SDI? I personally feel that going the old school way of aprenticing would be a much more valuable way of going about it, but these "theory of" courses(as I prefer to call them) would be more of a starting point or knowledge base. Do you feel the same in regards to starting your own business? Would one be better suited aprenticing or spending the time and money to do these courses?

Accreditation does not necessarily mean they are eligible to participate in the student financial aid programs. Participation in the Dept of Education programs is a whole 'nother set or rules. I don't see on MGS's website where they offer government financial aid programs. But as you mentioned, they do offer their own financing options. I am curious as to how long a student has access to the online videos for future reference? Did not see that question answered in their FAQs. I like working on firearms as much as the next guy. Would absolutely be in heaven if I could do it as a profession. However there is no money in it, high end median income hovers around $40-45k/year or about $20/hr. Some entities in the country who for some reason are movers and shakers instead of labeled what they are talkers and squawkers... Are constantly trying to take your job away, make it harder to operate, have to have an ffl for whatever reason. It costs as much for school as other trades like Electricians and pipefitters, but they get effin PAID. The hoops, time, and beaurocracy BS, make it very unattractive and frankly unrealistic a career choice, at least for this guy.
