    Nice spread and well organized. A lot of smiths try to pack 1000 tools into a 3x5 workspace where yours have breathing room. Well done mister.

    I’m with you on bench height. I make my benches higher than most and I like to include a tool tray at the back of the bench too. That way when I’ve got tools out being used on a project they can be out, but still be out of the way. Sometimes working on leather working projects, the piece I’m working on us fairly large and I may need to move it around on the bench while working. If you gave tools sitting on your bench, you’re constantly moving things around to reposition the work and knocking things over or off the bench, but with that tool tray, or tool well on the back edge of the bench, I can just shove a tool off the work surface, it drops down into the tray and I can move my work around and it can be anywhere on the bench and even overhanging it with having tools underneath or getting knocked off onto the floor.

    I'm currently going through the AGI Level II program. As an existing DIYer and amateur woodworker, I am converting my VERY SMALL woodshop into a combo wood and gunsmith shop, so space is at a premium. My gunsmith bench is 8 feet and I have a wood assembly table on the other side of the shop that is 8 feet that I can use if needed. But for everyday disassembly, part replacement, etc I was looking for pegboard arrangement, shelf space, etc and this has been really helfpul. Your layout here is really economical and gives me a lot to go on. Thanks!

    Hey David! Hope this find you well. Can we get a 2023 update on your journey? I’m heavily debating on enrolling into AGI but as you mentioned in the video I’m having doubts if this is a career choice that’s worth investing and pursuing. Thanks! Blessing brother!

    I have been a Machinist, and CNC Machinist for over 20 years. I Love guns, I tinker around with them, but never had any formal training.. I have a 2 year Industrial Maintenance Diploma from a Community College, and a Tool & Die Journeyman's Card. I would like to do Gunsmithing more, and use my Machining skills to help.. Do you think this would be a way to go? thank you for the video.

    1:03:18 I will be reaching out to you soon from my personal email, I don’t think TH-cam is attached to it I absolutely love this presentation and will finish the last few minutes of it. So invaluable to me. I have questions on things about equipment needed for projects Ie mill /drill press, lathe etc. for advanced Gun smithing. When did you do your AGI? A list of base tools equipment na homes a D tools to do the majority of work for pistol rifle repair and accuraizing/trigger jobs etc. I am just about to turn 59 and want to do this ad a supplement /replacement income into retirement. Unfortunately I did already spend 5 k on the Master Armourer course from AGI. It’s… ok so far. Guess just finished first dvd. You certainly have an David fan on my end. Thankyou

    I like working on firearms as much as the next guy. Would absolutely be in heaven if I could do it as a profession. However there is no money in it, high end median income hovers around $40-45k/year or about $20/hr. Some entities in the country who for some reason are movers and shakers instead of labeled what they are talkers and squawkers... Are constantly trying to take your job away, make it harder to operate, have to have an ffl for whatever reason. It costs as much for school as other trades like Electricians and pipefitters, but they get effin PAID. The hoops, time, and beaurocracy BS, make it very unattractive and frankly unrealistic a career choice, at least for this guy.

    I have pretty extensive machining, fabrication and knifemaking experience. Would starting at basic be an advantage? Or should I go to more advanced? I don't want to miss anything, but I also don't want to be stuck on filing stock flat or cutting radii on a piece.

  • @smaqdaddy

    That's the one I've been leaning towards. It seems like a good balance of affordability and flexibility. The SDI just seems too expensive; for the price they charge, I could do brick and mortar. The Penn Foster seems a bit too dated and the AGS had a less genuine feel.

    • @moderngunschool5126
      @moderngunschool5126 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have more in depth cirrculum and more hand on projects at half the cost of SDI. There are no essays or writing assignments as well with us. I hope this helps!
