This little known fort supplemented the 19th century Triangle of Fire forts of Casey, Worden and Flagler by guarding the approach to Puget Sound through Deception Pass. By dinghy, you can explore this completely abandoned and rarely visited fort.

We use a Raymarine chart plotter and an IPAD for navigation. However would love to hear which windows/mac navigation software you use as well as how you get it connect to your autopilot. Thanks!

Well, when this crazy pandemic is over, you have given my wife and I some great ideas on places to visit. Coming from eastern Canada to visit my sister in Lynnwood. A good day trip by car would be to cross on the ferry to Whidbey island. Pop over to Langley, then North on the island to Fidalgo island and then down to La Connor. Looks like a scenic drive with a lot of in between stop offs. Thanks for showing us these places, giving us something to look forward to👍.
Enjoyed seeing how you created your route on this, and also sharing how you plan to leave dock... you guys should consider offering day charters: your customers would be in good hands.
Thank you guys, the north pacific coast is very amasing , and so you are, however, try to put a wind breaker to your mic when you're filming outside especially by a windy days.
Having plotted and run up and down the east coast many times and being mentored by some brilliant lifetime captains, some who have since passed one thing these captains were adamant about when traveling during times of the year with short daylight was leave at first light. I don’t have an issue with your departure time or planning your trip but with all the debris ( I’d call it a bit more than debris and more like serious hazards floating about in the waters ) and never traveled to that destination you might want to consider leaving a bit earlier. What your planning doesn’t account for are those one off days when something goes wrong and you.need to slow or stop the boat to resolve the issue. I guess with a boat your size thats not limited to places you can pull into if need be it’s not as bad when running larger boats limited marinas to stop at. I wouldn’t want to be In the dark with all that debris floating about. Love your channel and the information you share. Be careful and think about starting just a bit earlier to allow for anything unexpected. One day you will thank yourself. Thank you for taking the time to share with us.

And I assume you were running this on a PC, but after the planning do you transfer the route to your plotter or do you couple the AP to the computer in one way or another. Very curious to find out. Dang, it is so nice up there. I am so used to the desert that when I see green trees, water, and clouds I get really excited to go see it for myself. And to do it by boat, well you 4 are blessed. Question how many times do yous fuel the boat? Or do yous have enough to go there and back on one fuel trip? And on average how much is it in fuel, depending your destiny or your routes?
Debris and darkness don't mix. Just like flying, y'all need to have a Plan B AND a Plan C. Your route planning continues to improve, keep up the practice, and you'll have it figured out.
Question on your coastal explorer routing software. Does the PC run your auto pilot or do you transfer or sync your route to your chart plotter to run the route?
Good question, our PC is talking to the autopilot over the NMEA network and sending course to steer packets. The interface between the NMEA2000 network and the PC is accomplished using a Yacht Devices NMEA2000 to USB adapter which works but I’ll likely exchange it for a CE NEMO hub at some point to get the NMEA data on our boat Wifi network.
While adding a stern thruster is generally straight forward our boat is more challenging due to the transom design and no offered protection from lack of a swim step overhang, so we’ll likely refrain from adding one.

We use Coastal Explorer and love it. Tried Time Zero last year but didn’t like it as much. It was kinda glitchy and not as user friendly.

Captain, would you consider retro fitting a stern thruster to freedom to aid in docking?
We thought we would but Shawn has gotten pretty comfortable maneuvering Freedom by now we’re not sure it’s worth the $$.
While adding a stern thruster is generally straight forward our boat is more challenging due to the transom design and no offered protection from lack of a swim step overhang, so we’ll likely refrain from adding one.
That channel can always be a challenge, especially during a big tide change.
