    My husband’s family owned the yellow building with the red trim in the 1950’s. Their pharmacy was the ground floor and they lived above it. They sold it in 1960 and moved the pharmacy south to Main Street where they built a strip mall. We love taking our boat to the dock and going into town.

    Awesome video as always, Sean you'll never have to join a gym the way you work on your boat, you seem like a dedicated hands on captain and your boat is small enough to do all the maintenance yourself. When a boat gets too big it becomes overwhelming.

      Exactly and why we love our N43. Anything bigger would be 100% work!

    I love your Q & A answer about fly-bridge, Thanks for the insight.

  • @sailinstyle
    @sailinstyle 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I run my N47 from the flybridge during daylight hours nearly every day out. With the bimini top it's shaded and quite comfortable on sunny days, and the visibility it affords for close-quarters maneuvering can't be beat. We've done legs of 8-10 hours running the boat from the fly. We had the same thoughts as you about how and whether'd we use it, and heard all the same advice, but we now cannot imagine not having it. It's also important to have enough electronics up there so you don't feel disconnected from the boat's systems while you are up there for long stretches of time.

    • @donhappel9566
      @donhappel9566 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've done coastal passages from both flybridge and pilothouse on various boats and find I generally prefer the pilothouse off-shore but almost inevitably switch to the flybrige when approaching a harbor or when cruising in-shore. As noted, visibility is almost universally better from a flybrige, but spending a full day off shore in the wind and weather wears on you.

    • @sailinstyle
      @sailinstyle 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@donhappel9566 I have a long list of things I don't like, and wind is at the number 2 spot, right below shallow water! I'll definitely stay in the PH if it's not really nice out :)

    We were on our boat at Catalina Island in So Cal over 4th weekend and Lonian was there with her toy hauler. We were thinking it would be a nice yacht to own but then realized it would take a lot of work to wash and wax.

      I'm guessing the owner hasn't ever washed a deck - at least not on that vessel (maybe they started smaller, who knows).
      I look at something like THAT as "nice place to VaCa but I wouldn't want to live there, hAhA. Even with a Powerball win my sweet spot would likely be someplace between 70' and 90' - money being zero object...

    Look forward to you videos every Sunday. Interesting comments about flybridges. My boat, 391 Meridian, only has a flybridge. I thought I'd like to have a lower helm, but they are rare in this boat and most people I spoke with here in Florida that have both lower and upper say they rarely use the lower. We don't do much foul weather boating here, so the upper works out great. Visibility for docking and traffic on the ICW up high is great. Much easier to see the dolphins!! Give Sully an ear scratch for me.

    • @donhappel9566
      @donhappel9566 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd agree that a flybridge is very location and boat-specific. I'm in northern California and a flybridge is definitely more useful and common than a lower helm only. But I'm not typically running true pilot-house boats. I find for off-shore cruising I tend to stick to a lower helm or pilothouse but for local bay and delta cruising I rarely use them due to limited visibility. However when cruising in the PNW I tend to favor a pilothouse as the weather is more often wet or cool. One of my favorite things in the PNW is waking up early and having a cup of coffee in the pilothouse while the fog burns off before getting under way. Whereas closer to home in the bay area I'm more likely to be sitting on the flybridge enjoying that coffee while idling through a no-wake zone before getting up to speed. Additionally I often boat in the CA delta and a flybridge lets you see more over the levies. For me at least, it all comes down to where I'll be using the boat which dictates the type of boat I'd want for that location which in turn informs the flybridge or not question.

Could you cover in a video how often and when you fill/empty tanks, where do you put your garbage when you fill a trash bag, how you dispose of trash, does your mooring fee grant you benefits and services in other marinas or is everything pay-as-you-go. You had a video weeks ago during the start of Covid where you got threats from small islands where they did not want any visitors. Is that still an issue? Love the channel!

    Hi Shawn, do you know thenew Nordhavn 41? What is your opinion about it? Describe the main different points between the Nordhavn 43 and Nordhavn 41, please.

    Nice video this morning. Freedom doing what freedom does. The only place I've run aground is the Coupeville corner trying to look at the dragon if it's still there. My question is do you have a wireless remote control for your autopilot. Also has Shaun ever taken the boat out by himself.

      Yes & yes!

      @@mvfreedom why don't you drive from outside. Buy a wifi or wireless backup camera, aim it at the panel so OCD Shaun can watch his beloved Deere run. And hang out outside, looking forward of course.

    @10:20 the great cornholio! Thanks! My dog now thinks I'm laughing at the ceiling!!!
    Question: On the main shaft, the green wire and the strap. Is that a ground strap? What is the green wire?

    • @seikibrian8641
      @seikibrian8641 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the green wire is the ground wire, and the metal bar is the spring that holds the brush the wire connects to against the shaft. The green wire then connects to the stuffing box so that the shaft and the box are electrically bonded.

      @@seikibrian8641 That makes sense, I'm used to the stuffing boxes being made of stuff that doesn't create static or insulate as well. Spinning steel against plastic or teflon probably builds a charge.

      We have shaft brushes which comes into contact with the shaft and keeps our shaft grounded to our bonding system at all times. Good eye!

    Great foresight and decision to move full time onto Freedom. So with your great mental gymnastics I have to ask do you prefer gold or silver as your investment choice right now😂 Shaun is always cleaning, but many small tasks over time seems smart. What do you guys think about the New Nordhavn 41 ?

    • @mvfreedom
      @mvfreedom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably gold! And although we haven’t seen the N41 up close we like it. It doesn’t seem like a good liveaboard boat given the space layout, but it’s fully capable of long range cruising like crossing oceans so compared to other new boats in that price range it’s a great boat!

      @@mvfreedom ya, its only a one head vessel, I could never have a live aboard/open ocean blue water vessel. But that me. Is yours a 2 head boat?

    Do you have a dehumidifier on Freedom? How do you handle the dampness when you are on the water 24/7?
