PS 3 could recognise and try to use up to 2TB but back then you were always best going a step below the max the makers recommended. 1.5tb internal drives constantly had issues on the ps3 with files corrupting. 22:44 that fan speed is definitely a little too high for the temps, mine sits at 30-35% around those temps and people say that’s too high. Yours might need a delid and repaste.
Ive bought my European PS3 Phat (min. version 1.0) a few months back to hook it up to my old CRT and play retro and normal PS3 games on it. Recently, I revisited CFW on it after having trouble getting the Blu-ray Drive to work again. (I needed to remarry it to the console). For now, I've "upgraded" it to a 120GB 840 EVO, but soon I'll install the same 860 EVO 1TB SSD you have in my PS3 to dump all my games on and transfer the copies to my PC, to play them on an emulator and spare it from excessive run time. I'd hate to get the YLOD again and be broken forever, and I'd love to keep the option of dumping any game as long as I can. All that trouble to play Skate 3 again xD
Excellent console. Has tons of features, the original can even play Super Audio 5.1 surround sound music CDs. As well as Movies, photos, Mp3s and can rip music CDs direct to disc connecto Netflix, Amazon Prime & TH-cam. Mines now the core of my entertainment system. 👍
I come from the past, with some fun facts for people who weren't alive when the PS3 actually came out: 1. The early PlayStation 3 was a pile of crap because Sony/Toshiba/IBM all conspired together, to cram as much proprietary shit into one box as possible, thinking that consumers would all just leap on it due to PS2 success. They tried to abuse their loyal consumer base of GAMERS by forcing random technology sponsors into homes, via a new game console, and spectacularly failed. This is where/why Microsoft overtook them, for one iteration. 2. The original controller (SixaxiS) shipped without rumble, because Sony was still stuck in a patent dispute with Immersion Inc, over the controller rumble setup, which I think Immersion won. They had to settle, and only then could produce and ship the DualShock 3, which was identical except with the vibration motors where on SixaxiS there were just empty solder pads. Sony initially tried to market this as "controller haptics are last-gen technology" and it was RIDICULOUSLY embarrassing. 3. The recent PS3 firmware updates are to add the newer Blu-ray Disc decryption keys. This was agreed by Sony way at the start, that they would continue upgrading the "Blu-ray player" part, as if it was anormal consumer player, for something like 15 years. Can't remember exactly how many.
I have an OG PS3 with the full backwards compatibility,.. and the compatibility has problems. I know some PS1 games are broken on the PS3. DeathTrap Dungeon for example. Driver 2 has performance issues that it didn't even have on the PS1. Some PS2 games have problems as well. Silent Hill 2 has visual glitches. People report that one of Harry's legs will sometimes vanish. There are lots more games that don't work right on it. Basically modern emulators on PC have better compatibility with PS1/PS2 games than the PS3. That's why it ended up in a box in my closet and I just got a PS1 (with SD Card mod) and PS2 (with free hd boot) with HDMI adapters. That's the only way to dodge the optical drive failures and be able to run the games 100 percent correct on the OG hardware. For PS3 games I have a PS3 slim.
I've jailbroken a few PS3s before. Using a Windows computer is usually quicker and easier than using a Macbook. I'm just lucky that I have both types of laptops. Don't blame yourself for having some issues trying to jailbreak your PS3 with a Mac; its just more of headache for some reason sometimes with Macbooks. Exfat vs Fat32 shouldnt make a difference, but the directions on TH-cam or reddit might be slightly different depending on who uploads it. Same with trying to use the ISO game file method vs uplaoding them in NTFS format. Both work obviously, but doing it with a Windows computer seems to go so much smoother and quicker than trying to do it with MacBook. Also apparently the model of PS3 can make a slight difference on Jailbreaking it quicker (don't know if that's true; I just read about it). Ive jailbroken 3 different PS3s before for myself and my friends, but they were all the slim model PS3. Never tried it on the original fat PS3 model like Denki did nor the super slim PS3s. Again shouldn't make much difference. I doubt Denki will see this; this is more of an advice comment for someone watching the video wanting to jailbreak their PS3 now. Don't doubt yourself; you can do it! Jailbreaking your PS3 is so fun and cool once you do it.
oh my god you dont need a backwards compatable ps3 too play ps2 games i jailbroken my slim and my cousins super slim ps3 and we can play ps2 games fine
And here I am feeling like I was chilling with my PS3 not that long ago, enjoying MGSIV, FFXIII, GT5... damn wtf is up with time these days? This stuff is already retro???
My cousin had a launch PS3 and one day it stopped working so he bought another one. I bought his old one for $20 and just reset it with a button press and worked fine.
Wish I knew about Safe mode and all that stuff back in the day as well lol. My brother had bought one overseas ( he was in the Army at the time) and sent it home. It was a fat PS3 and worked like a charm until one system update that ended up corrupting something. Games would play fine, but usually after a few minutes of running the screen would start to fill up with purple pixels as if the screen was tearing and eventually crash. Had I known about safe mode I would have tried to reset the system completely, but I didn't and since it was bought from overseas there was no warranty. Left it there to collect dust till my brother came back and I think he got rid of it lol.
i have an 80gb cfw fat ps3 and i love it i had another but it died on me i still got it in case i wanna fix it but im so happy my dad had two prior now i have a ps3 w essentially everything i need, i do wish i had that model just to have non patched fully compatible ps3
i also added the samsung ssd and looovee the very minimal difference it makes hahah but its cooler quieter and have way more space for ps2 and ps3 games
The problem with the fat PS3 is high power consumption (380w) and low reliability. Amazingly the super slim while ugly and cheap, is super cool on temperatures and very energy friendly (190 to 200w).
You should frankenstein it, the GPU in early PS3s is notoriously unreliable (I am referring to the 90nm RSX). The later GPUs are much more reliable, not having any widespread issues. You can retrofit either a 65nm or a 40nm (the 22nm has a different pinnout). The 40nm is technically better, since you can overclock it, but you cant use other OS. With the 65nm you can't overclock but you can use other OS.
@@olevet75 Yes you could just install Linux in fat ps3s and early slim models. Supercomputers were made out of ps3s using this feature. But they removed the feature because it was deemed a security risk, went to court and lost and had to pay out a massive penalty.
I still frequently use my PS3 phat systems, I've got a dev kit and a 60gb debugger, unfortunately it's a pal region 60gb which doesn't have full hardware backwards compatibility so PS2 games like persona 3 won't boot at all if you're looking for thermal paste that's good on the PS3 I'd suggest using thermal grizzly's paste, it's what I stuck on my debugger... It's really worth it for both the 3DS and Wii U.
This guy looks like the kid from Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Unfortunately, Fat models are prone to dying due to capacitor failing, and graphics chip dying.
22:44 that fan speed is definitely a little too high for the temps, mine sits at 30-35% around those temps and people say that’s too high.
Yours might need a delid and repaste.
Lol😂 2TB SSD lmao , and not plugging in the controller. 😂Welcome to PS3 and its custom linux OS. However welcome to the world of PS3 Mods
Always happy to see your uploads!
Try jailbreaking Xbox 360 slime model 🤣🤣
I had one of these. Had to use the hair dryer trick on it to get it working, but it finally died five years after launch.
I come from the past, with some fun facts for people who weren't alive when the PS3 actually came out:
1.
Crazy I bought one today and ran into this video I bought the 60gb version baclwards compatible
I got the PS3 Super Slim which runs whisper quiet. I stuck a 640GB hard drive which has 596GB available which is more than enough.
I keep a ps2 and a super slim in my living room. Not ideal but it is affordable.
oh my god you dont need a backwards compatable ps3 too play ps2 games i jailbroken my slim and my cousins super slim ps3 and we can play ps2 games fine
And here I am feeling like I was chilling with my PS3 not that long ago, enjoying MGSIV, FFXIII, GT5... damn wtf is up with time these days? This stuff is already retro???
nah man ps3 is hd, is not retro by any means,as matter of fact I lower sharpness on tv to zero, otherwise it's to sharp
finally early to denki video
Still on the lookout for a backwards compatible PS3
Left it there to collect dust till my brother came back and I think he got rid of it lol.
gamebattles recently got shut down...
I miss MLG. true competitive gaming.
Only 100 dollar difference. 😆😆😆
100 dollars was a lot for me personally back in 2006 when the PS3 released.
Playstation 3 is same font like Spider-man trilogy.
LETS GOOOOOOOOOO MLG Game Battles mentioned. I use to play in the higher level scene on Halo 2 and 3 on MLG as part of Team ONI.
BUY A 60GB BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE PS3 THATS BEEN DELIDDED AND NEW PASTE AND PADS AND YOUR SORTED ..
AMAZING CONSOLE AMAZING GAMES
You should get the PS2 memory card adapter.
Kid we were transition from SD to HD in 2000 when the PS2 launched lol GEN z kids. lol
PS3 only allows up to 1.75TB for an internal drive
Also, OS always reserves 10% space
Makes sense that the space the OS allocates scales!
11:08 We didn't ask for your tinder bio but thanks anyways, I guess...
Awesome 👏🏾 video! I still have my ps3 along with my ps4 😊. PS5 is next
Can you cover the RSX swap mod? It will make this PS3 last sooo much longer
I just bought a super slim 2 weeks ago and I freaking love it, the ps3 era was always the best
@@Afro-Spider309 360 was better imo
i have an 80gb cfw fat ps3 and i love it i had another but it died on me i still got it in case i wanna fix it but im so happy my dad had two prior now i have a ps3 w essentially everything i need, i do wish i had that model just to have non patched fully compatible ps3
i also added the samsung ssd and looovee the very minimal difference it makes hahah but its cooler quieter and have way more space for ps2 and ps3 games
Sadly i apperently can't jailbreak my ps3 because it's too new or whatever
My birthday was 7 days before the 4.91 ofw released, love ps3 piracy too $yo ho Me heartys$.
I used to own one but it's just wasn't the same as 1, 2 and even 4
Jailbreak it and he will backboard compatible and can ran even your grandfather and grandmother on their generation😂😂
“Why is my luck so bad with this stuff” I feel it 😂 breaks almost everything he messes with
Dude use use cfw and get an external hardrive you can back up all your games and also play them all via usb
The problem with the fat PS3 is high power consumption (380w) and low reliability. Amazingly the super slim while ugly and cheap, is super cool on temperatures and very energy friendly (190 to 200w).
EVERYONE NEEDS ONE OF THESE
THE ONLINE COMMUNITY IS STILL ALIVE AND KICKING
THE GAMES ARE SOOOO MICH BETTER THAN CRAPPY PS5
You should frankenstein it, the GPU in early PS3s is notoriously unreliable (I am referring to the 90nm RSX). The later GPUs are much more reliable, not having any widespread issues. You can retrofit either a 65nm or a 40nm (the 22nm has a different pinnout). The 40nm is technically better, since you can overclock it, but you cant use other OS. With the 65nm you can't overclock but you can use other OS.
what other os you can use linyx? any other cool stuff you could do with it?
@@olevet75 Yes you could just install Linux in fat ps3s and early slim models.
Supercomputers were made out of ps3s using this feature. But they removed the feature because it was deemed a security risk, went to court and lost and had to pay out a massive penalty.
This is what happens me when I have to do anything hardware related. I enjoyed the saga. Glad it worked out.
I still frequently use my PS3 phat systems, I've got a dev kit and a 60gb debugger, unfortunately it's a pal region 60gb which doesn't have full hardware backwards compatibility so PS2 games like persona 3 won't boot at all
if you're looking for thermal paste that's good on the PS3 I'd suggest using thermal grizzly's paste, it's what I stuck on my debugger... I pretty much had to, there was no paste left... not even flakes.
try getting a decr 1400 PS3... you know the one that doesn't look like it belongs in a server rack
I still got my original fat ps3 from when it first came out. Don’t use it, just like the way it looks
It could be maybe you actually need a 60 GB SSD as the same storage written on the box
W Fat PS3!!!
Whaaat,you don't know that????
If you replace the disk/reinstall,the PS3 is reset, you got to use a svideo cables!!!
Just in case you don't know
All PS3 can read PS1 disc game, even without jailbreaking ;)
Try PS4 or PS5 game too on PS3 console
