Vax ends up becoming a Paladin of the Raven Queen after making a pledge to her to save Vex’s life. Percy also talks to her as A.) If yall got to this point and still don't want spoilers, it's your fault for still scrolling. lol To be even more specific, there was a big theme that fate is controlled by "threads" and especially death results when a person's "thread of fate" is cut. So the raven (being symbolic of the Raven Queen) weaving threads between these characters in the intro represents fate pulling them together and forward into their destiny, while also representing the overall importance the raven queen had on the story. Credit where credit is due: the theme is by Neal Acree, not JCM. There are nods to Jason Charles Miller's campaign 1 intro, and Sam, Laura & Ashley's campaign 2 intro, but the music here is Neal's. The nods to JCM are mostly in the underlying percussive accompaniment. It's not the same rhythm as JCM's, but it gives a similar feel. The campaign 2 nod is in the melody in a couple places, which is mostly the "they were always beside you" musical phrase from Your Turn to Roll in a minor key(I think) with the ending of the phrase altered to go up a third or a fourth instead of a second where you would normally hear "be-SIDE you". (I was only a B-/C+ student in my college ear training classes and I don't have a piano handy, so my intervals are probably off, but should be in the ballpark.) Other than the partial melodic statements of the YTTR theme at 0:03 & 0:22, the slightly more complete one at 0:45, and the occasional percussive accompaniment, the rest is all Neal Acree. (with some possible help from orchestrator Nolan Markey - Nolan did some of the orchestrations for TLOVM, I just don't know for certain if he orchestrated the main title.)
@@michaelkemmet834 You're right, although I'd add it's a tiny bit of a grey area since the whole main chorus, right from the opening fanfare, is a subtle variation on the six-note melody heard in "the adventure begins," the opening notes of "Your Turn to Roll." So it is definitely inspired by Miller's work with Sam Riegel on that previous main title sequence, and I wouldn't be surprised if they are co-credited for the title sequence in the credits alongside Acree. But it's obvious that Acree has done some incredible work for the show and I can't wait to hear more of it. I loved the behind-the-scenes glimpses we got.
@@paramitch No, you're right. I had completely forgotten that Jason played a significant role in creating Your Turn to Roll. Ominous eyes in the clouds at 1:00
Ouch. I missed some of those. Huh abt scanlan and the threads - interesting take. I interpreted it as him casting tbe wish spell or in this case sam's plan to cast wish to save vax
I'm rewatching, and rewatching this. As an animator myself, this is so well done, and I suggest to others as well, to watch the "action" sequences of this at 0.25 speed to really take in what's happening, as literally, every frame is a painting, and you miss a lot watching at normal speed.
@@willeh1947 Quite certain its 24. FPS doesnt really matter in animation (people who cares about "fps" mainly does so since they play games and think "more frames = good"), since the animator will decide how long a drawing will be shown before going to the next. It looks like they are holding pictures for 2/24 (2 frames of 24(1 second )), 3/24 and some 1/24 for this. The entire animation industry uses 24 fps, changing the framerate messes with the timing animators has learned.
That would be delightful! As much as I'm looking forward to seeing my favorite moments animated, it would be amazing if I could see CR for the first time ever again.
Watching Percy's walk towards the "camera" gave me a bit of Vash the Stampede vibe. Having watched the behind the scenes videos and interviews with the creators, and seeing them do a bit of live voiceover at the NYCC 2021 panel, and now seeing this, I'm looking forward to them finishing strong. I'm a Campaign 2 fan and have never seen anything from C1. But I'm excited for this. And I hope it does super well because then the chances of C2 getting animated go up exponentially.
I think it's gonna do well, just look at how many views this got in less than a day! Also, Critters are obviously psyched about this, and it will surely attract some non-critters as well once it's out there! :)

And to make it clear that I don't work for any media outlet, I'm just an ordinary person who, when he sees something really good, talks about what's good and criticizes what's bad and this series so far I haven't seen anything bad.
I cant say there is one best part of this trailer cause everything is SO EPIC and I LOVED all of it. I also choked up a bit, so proud and grateful of these people.
Guys we are getting a D&D anime!?! We haven’t had anything D&D on TV since the original cartoon and that was kidish. This is a full blown adult D&D anime style series! Any body who has ever played D&D around a table should watch this. Those ratings should be through the roof!!!
There's, I think, two other D&D based series being developed. I don't really have high hopes for them because I think they'll take themselves too seriously. Whereas TLOVM I have very high hopes for and know it won't take itself to seriously. Also, this animation is beautiful!
@@danc1513 Actually, it's an animation of their home game, so we're going back to the start, before Critical Role even started! I believe it'll cover everything up to the Briarwood arc.

It's happening!!!! And like any fine piece of art, there is so much to take in. I'm going to have to watch this a few dozen times to catch it all. Thank you!
I can't begin to describe how excited this makes me. I ended up leaving off the live broadcasts after awhile because the 4-hour sessions were proving a little hard to fit into my schedule and after I missed the first few it just felt too daunting to catch up. I think I got to around the point where they were dealing with the Briarwoods...so there's a freakin TON I have not seen, and if even a fraction of it gets adapted into this show I am stoked beyond belief to get to spend more time with these characters. I love these people and their characters, and the chemistry they all have together. And it looks like the showrunners/animators are being SUPER faithful to the source material. I had no idea this was a thing, and seeing this trailer randomly pop up on my feed today has made me incredibly happy.
As a tip, if you are interested. They have all their episodes up as podcasts and there are viewing (/listening) guides out there of where to start and which greater plotlines start where. Listening takes a bit away but I found it much easier then sitting down and watching a yt video for 4 hours, also i can just download the podcast and listen to them in a lot more places.
@@TheChemicalMuffin Thanks! I might look into that :) Honestly what I'll probably just do is wait for the Amazon show to come out and see if watching it gets me the itch to go back and watch the D&D episodes again. I have more time available now than when this stuff was airing, so an episode stretched over two days is something I could probably manage. More than anything I'm just tickled that this is happening. I love each and every member of the crew, and as successful as most of them are in their fields, it's even cooler to see something that's THEIRS.
You're in luck, the first season of this animated show will be mostly dealing with the Briarwoods, so you can pretty much pick up where you left off ;) Also, they're starting their 3rd campaign on October 21st, and recently announced they'd take every last Thursday of the month off. This should hopefully give viewers the opportunity to keep up a little more easily.
For ultimate fanservice, I would love for someone to say “how do you wanna do this?”, for Vax to say “Dagger Dagger Dagger”, and for Grog to say “I would like to RAGE!”

I got curious recently and I decided to put over Your Turn to Roll over this opening sequence and it was almost perfect?? I just love this even more now. The animations is just wonderfully made and I don't mind if they didn't put the song in. It was just a fun experiment.
I literally got Amazon Prime JUST for this. Seeing how far Critical Role has come over the years, I’m just soooo excited and happy for the whole crew. First time I saw this trailer I screamed and cried
I've been watching Critical Role from the very beginning, way back when even Orion was still on the stream. I never imagined a (then) niche stream thing like D&D to blow up like it did. I'm so proud of this group. They turned their hobby/stream into a full on company and now, an animation. I wish them continued success because it just means more entertainment for us. D&D forever!

Critmas was so charming until it got to be.. so much.
When they were clapping for each new subscriber? It was raw, that’s for sure. But you gotta love the production quality now that this is a major focus, rather than just a Thursday night game.
My favorite will always be when they sold out of their shirts before they'd even finished announcing that they had shirts.
I mean, several years ago, there was a moment when I though, should I watch this? and in the comments a saw a phrase... a phrase that has bring me here today, a kickstarter later, 2 campaigns, many one shoots and tears in my eyes from seeing an animated opening... that phrase was "I´ve got an intelligence of 6, I know what I´m doing"
Love all the little details, missed stuff like the 5 frames of Orthax my first time through, but that's what endlessly rewatching this is for.
The fact that it's a Raven weaving the threads that bring them together is just great foreshadowing for those who may not know.

@@danielcunningham4339 Your wish is granted but for everyone else who doesn’t want spoilers, don’t read any further!
Vax ends up becoming a Paladin of the Raven Queen after making a pledge to her to save Vex’s life. Percy also talks to her as A.) Vex’s near death was partly his fault and B.) he feels broken after everything that happened between him and the Briarwoods and Anne Ripley (the people who killed his family and stole his home) and wonders if the reason all this happened to him was because he was “always broken”. That’s a very loose summery of events, highly recommend watching the episodes, it’s such a good story arc for both of them.
If yall got to this point and still don't want spoilers, it's your fault for still scrolling. lol
To be even more specific, there was a big theme that fate is controlled by "threads" and especially death results when a person's "thread of fate" is cut. So the raven (being symbolic of the Raven Queen) weaving threads between these characters in the intro represents fate pulling them together and forward into their destiny, while also representing the overall importance the raven queen had on the story. That's my takeaway of it, anyway.

@@AbelMcTalisker r/Woosh!
Fate help me, Jason Charles Miller's theme being made with an epic symphony sounds incredible.
(I was only a B-/C+ student in my college ear training classes and I don't have a piano handy, so my intervals are probably off, but should be in the ballpark.)
Other than the partial melodic statements of the YTTR theme at 0:03 & 0:22, the slightly more complete one at 0:45, and the occasional percussive accompaniment, the rest is all Neal Acree.
The melody was mostly Sam, but they brought in Jason early in the process to flesh it out into a real song. It's been almost a year and a half since the video about it came out(during the kickstarter), and I had totally forgotten about it.
@@michaelkemmet834 I totally get it, and I thought it was really nice of you to make sure Acree was rightfully credited (I fixed my comment, because for some reason I typed "Miller" instead of Acree in that final sentence, ack). As an animator myself, this is so well done, and I suggest to others as well, to watch the "action" sequences of this at 0.25 speed to really take in what's happening, as literally, every frame is a painting, and you miss a lot watching at normal speed.
Seriously thank you for telling me to do this...holy crap
Thank you for the tip for an aspiring animator!!
Wonderful suggestion. Truly gives time to appreciate the art and the emotional/physical intensity of each moment. Thank you!
What framerate do you think this is animated at? It almost looks like 60 but I’m not certain.

I'm so proud of this group. They turned their hobby/stream into a full on company and now, an animation. I wish them continued success because it just means more entertainment for us. D&D forever!
What do you mean? It's only ever been the EIGHT of them right? /s
In all seriousness, I'm so proud of them. These lovable nerds deserve this after sharing their beautiful stories with us for the last 6 years. I can't wait for this to come out!!!
Idk why but I’m suddenly feeling thankful. Scanlam on Bigby’s hand looks fantastic and I’m just thinking of Gygax now. Just crazy to see D&D evolve so successfully. Hell yeah.
