You did the right thing. It's the one I use the 702 Pro. I love it. Does all I want and it's all I need. It mimics your mbl. I use the USB connection instead of connecting to the Battery. It works absolutely fine. Well done 😅. You took my advice and many others. You'll love it, and it's simple to use. Think of it as your phone on a big screen. Love all you do my friend. 😊
The Carpuride is basically an extension of your phone, so whatever’s true about your phone losing signal will be equally true for your Carpuride. BTW have you tested the phone call quality? I have an earlier model (W702) and it needs a simple tweak to get good phone call quality- I wonder if they’ve fixed that in the Pro version? Also the USB power means you can play with it in the house rather than having to connect it to the bike’s power all the time, which I used a lot when setting it up 😊@@ontheroadadventure
Yes, in essence it's just a large phone screen extension. I did use my phone for navigation in Spain this year but I've converted back to a satnav because of the loss of signal. Yes, you can download maps but then like a phone when there's no signal I couldn't search for petrol stations, etc, which is not an issue on a satnav. I use TomTom, which I'm very happy with, especially with its integrated speed camera warnings and enroute display of petrol stations, rest areas, etc.
I bought one for my summer trip from Spain to the Netherlands and back through Belgium France Switzerland Italy Frans and back to Spain. It worked perfect for me. Clear screen and very readable for my poor eyes.
@@ontheroadadventure the gps from my iPhone used as normal the battery. Sometimes on long days like 8 hours in the saddle I had to charge my phone. In respect of the data consumption I have no idea. I have unlimited data usage in Europe so I didn’t bother to check the consumption.
Looks a great bit of kit that ! Easy to use and set up 👍🏼 After you have used it on a trip and reviewed it further, I will look into getting one myself 🤔 keep up the good work Rich, and thanks 😉
Great Vid, been following you both from the start. Its been great watching your channel grow. I have only recently started posting things up so just starting out. Been using Carpuride for over a year now on my GSA (bought with my own money). Used it last year doing the RDGA and a few other smaller trips. Very hot temps, heavy rain at timesand some very cold morning starts so a good test. Personally, I find it to be a great bit of kit. Links up quick, solid connection when linked and the screen is nice and clear (went for the 7"). Never over heated and never had any issues reading in direct sunlight (all though extra brightness NITS would still be useful). Obviously all it does is present your apps from your phone, so just make sure you have a good data plan that will work in the country you are riding in or you are using offline maps on any nav app you are using (my preference is MRA for bespoke routes and Google Maps or Waze for simple quick a-b or pin pointing things like hotels, cafes etc on the fly) which I normally use a combo on when away on the bike. From a safety PoV, its good to keep my mobile on my person, especially in the event of an accident as less likely to be parted from it (I have come from using Quadlock to mount the phone to the handlebars). And honestly, I really wouldnt worry about the unit being stolen these days - they are more likely to smash off your bikes TFT screen (or take the bike). Best of luck with the future vids and the channel. Enjoy the ADV bike weekend.
Thanks a good review for the Carpuride there 👍 Do you find using it effects your phones battery life? I need to charge mine throughout the day when touring using this
@@ontheroadadventure A little bit but but I havent found it to be significant. I have a little battery pack I keep in my pocket with the phone plugged in to charge on very long days so that helps.
Cool, SatNav! If you lose service on your phone in a low coverage area, google maps will stop working as well. Downloading offline maps is a good safety net in a pinch.
I like to try that Carpuride 702 pro because my Garmin Zumo XT is a nightmare. I had the same problems durng my motorvacation as you guys. Great to see that I'm not the only one who bought a pig in a poke.
Another fantastic review Rich ! I’m looking forward to hear more once you’ve had it a few days or longer. How lucky are you to have these sent to you FOC ! Ride safe mate 😊
We are so grateful to companies who send us stuff, sure they are getting marketing out of it, and we are so careful as to what we accept as believe me we get asked to take all kinds of random rubbish, from health drinks to rice cookers and magazine subscriptions! We see it on other channels and think its annoying unless its something your audience is actually interested to see
Interesting, I was wondering what these were all about, and here in Canada, I’ve had vastly different experience with Google Maps. During an 11k road trip in the spring, it wanted me to cross rivers and bays with no bridges, nor were there ever, and drive through existing buildings that had been in place for decades. My Garmin, on the other hand, has never taken me off on cow paths like google maps has. Also, there are so many dead cell areas in this country that GPS and inReach are a huge asset. Just my experience, anyway. Love the videos, keep ‘em coming.
Top choice, I have been using the 702 since February. I have been touring with it on a few occasions. Never let me down. Faultless. I think you will love it. I have used it with an apple IPhone 11 and now iPhone 15 👍
Besides yourself I also follow Bikes and Brushes, Fay has been using a 502 version and is happy with it. They have just come back from a tour in France and no mention of problems. Very good unbiased review looks like what I will be asking Santa for this year. At least you get speed cameras with google maps for free.😊
Yes Google maps seems to be the way to go, its constantly updated and hasnt failed me anywhere yet... My only question is if the phone loses signal do you lose maps?
Hiya Rich, I did the same thing and now use the CarPuride all the time, You will need to connect your phone to a power supply coz the carpuride eats your phone battery, I use my USB to charge the phone all the time, I have an NC 750 so my phone lives in the frunk on Charge and have wired the Carpuride to a switchable power supply and use a ram locking mount, I loaded mine with TomTom as it has all the maps already so if your out of service it doesn't matter, I have also put on My Route App and Waze to use just for a change, I can report I have had no issues with any of them, I listen to music off the Carpuride memory card which mutes when I get riding instructions so that's cool. I'm sure you will love it.
I have bought a NAVIFLY 105€ 6,24 inch does exactly the same with cameras front and rear control button bars and it’s fixed on cradle . As some one said it mimics your phone , if you lose signal this will as well👍 but it’s very good for the money I would recommend it 💪🏼👍
Whatever works. And you are happy with. Being old I'm struggling with all the new tech and if I'm honest don't want it taking over my riding or me becoming dependent on it. If it's just a bug extension of the phone then a good watercase wiuld allow the same and phone charging simultaneously. My new bike allows you to superimpose Google maps onto the dash screen ( Himmy 452) but it's a guge drain on battery and data. I still plan everything on paper maps and travel with them, but transfer the route to a gps and phone app on downliaded maps so signal isn't a problem. I really am too old to change. I watch with interest. I'm learning a lot. Ride safe 👍
Nice video sir. Have had the Carpuride 502B on my K1600 for about 9 months /3k miles and can’t fault it regardless of situation. Hopefully you guys have a similar experience. Keep the videos coming! Cheers
I’ve not taken it out of UK as yet but have ran out of dignal but google maps still guides the way. However, not sure if that is down to having offline maps installed for area I’m in at the time. To be fair, if it IS due to offline maps then not really a biggy to download areas beforehand even when keeping the spontaneity of adventure
@@ontheroadadventure I can tell you from experience - some surprisingly large parts of Somerset have no or low signal. Mostly Google maps just freezes and does nothing until you get into a decent coverage area again (4 G), , or sometimes kicks you into a semi blank screen with a dialogue box saying something like "cannot access map. Try again?" Also if like me you try and program a route or switch maps on at the start of a ride when out of service you just cant do anything - you have to physically go somewhere first and get a signal.
Hi, Been using one for 6 months now, like you to replace my Garmin. I`ve found it to be very good, great that you can control your phone and music from the unit at the same time. I tend to run it with a spilt screen between music and map. I`ve not had any issues and hopefully it will stay that way. My only issue with with google maps, when I plan a route on laptop and change it from the suggested route then send it to my phone, when I open the route it reverts to the suggested route, no doubt its me doing something wrong. Hope you enjoy yours and keep the videos coming, very entertaining.
I've been using the 502 for around 4 months and can't fault it. Tip, for the best audio quality connect you headset (senna/cardo etc) to the phone and your phone to the carpuride. I tend to use Waze more than Google maps due to the live alerts for cameras/police and hazard locations.
I havent tried waze yet, I did discover that now i cant adjust the volume of my music on the cardo anymore, meaning i have to go through the menu on the Carpride which is a faff, Hopefully theres a way around it?
Hi Rich. I run a Tom Tom.. Must admit never had much of a issue. Even across Europe.. But I must admit this interests me.. However, totally agree it's the non connection issue with data etc.. So will be interested in your long term review..
Rich.. Hope you are well? How have you found the unit so far? As you know I use a Tom Tom hard wired into my Tracer. But I am interested in getting one for when we use other bikes.. Might be a Christmas present to the wife lol.. Thanks
Picked one up for £133 today. My phone has never lost signal where I ride and this just mirrors the phone, so cannot see it being an issue. Also the ones from aliexpress are useless. Buy cheap, buy twice! Already have a carpuride 903 in car which works great. Looking forward to fitting this.
Tried it, got totally exasperated with it randomly losing connection, not plotting routes and random screen jumping. Carpuride refused to honour their 60 day return, to the point of warning me it could be lost if I tried to return. Good luck with yours, mine went in the bin!
I'm so sorry that you had such a bad experience. Can I ask for your order number? I will immediately report your problem to the relevant department and try to solve it for you.
Hi been loving your videos. I've got the same 702 great for moving from bike to bike. I like to use Waze sat nav free as well as Google maps. I like the information it gives you along the way. Worth a try
@@ontheroadadventure TomTom & Sygic both allow for downloading offline maps of the whole world. Loosing signal or data is never a issue as maps are stored on your phone
@@ontheroadadventureYup, £19.99 a year. But your account can be used on multiple devices, I created a account & my wife uses same log in details on her phone. So we actually share my account. It's free for 7 day's. Sygic is the same. Give it a go & drop a review,
No man ever reads the manual. Well done Rich! Proper man! Are you using android or apple? Be aware mate. Can be done for touching sat nav whilst moving
I think if you need to read the manual and learn how to use it then it isnt very user friendly.... Proper Man thinking lol Im using Apple but the unit will do both
As a AT driver myself I don’t know why I should buy something like this. The At is one of the rare bikes which already has integrated CarPlay and it works flawlessly. I can use it with my handlebar buttons and it charges my phone while I’m riding the bike. So it’s always fully charged when I get off the bike. I absolutely love it and ditched all my navigation systems I used before. And I travelled half of the world with it. There is absolutely no need to change to any other navigation system this planet has to offer. 😅 Other than that, will be interesting to see how „carpuride“ will suite your needs.
I found mine takes ages to connect and will often need to be paired up again, also the screen on the AT isnt bright or clear enough in the sun especially
Great review . I have just bought the Aoocci C6Pro 6" Emergency Recording Dash Cam For Motorcycle Front & Rear Camera GPS. I have watched so many reviews of the one that i bought and it looks good . I will let you know how i get on with it . But it does come highly recommended. It came with a 40% discount from another TH-camr not bad for 160 Euro ?? but we will see .
@@ontheroadadventure I found out the battery drained quickly the further I went to east, but had 2 phones reserve I could have used. every country I bought local simcards
Ah ok, for me it hasnt been a problem as i can charge the phone on the bike, but i am aware if the phone dies i have a problem. Same for us Esims are expensive and so far just buying a local sim card has been problem free for us.
5:32 Hey Guys nice choice guys but the aoocci is the same sun visor ,carplay ,big screen but with front and rear cameras and cheeper ,but you've made your decision ,hope it works well for you abroad .
...I bought an 8 sided dice once, for random touring.....In the morning, throw it and the number relates to direction. 1 is north, 2 is northwest 3 west etc. Then throw it again and the number relates to distance. 1 (for me) would be 50 kms, 2 is 60. 3 is 70....When you reach the end of your random distance, have a coffee, look around, and throw again, but no opposite (returning) directions. Carry on until deciding where to sleep....Only need to see the sun and a watch / compass.........and then, errr, a sat nav to get home a week later 😆
If only I had bars, I've bought a inch one with tps and cameras front and rear. I have a plan 😂 great video and it does look super bright and clear too. Cracking as ever
Don't be too sure of Google Maps never failing Bud..., i've just completed a 4300km tour and had my problems. I was reduced to damning it, and wishing I had my Garmin from my car, a few more times, than just the once, I've had the Garmin for many trouble free years. The thing with Garmin is, it needs a regular update from the Internet, then all is fine! That thing in my line of sight is as big as a bloody TV screen, and would annoy me even more than Google taking me somewhere I don't wanna go..., but I suppose, to each his own. Please do at least a few thousand miles with it before you try and tell us all, what a damn good piece of kit it is. A couple hundred miles round the local neighbourhood is not enough to convince me that I "need" one of these screens, blocking my view of our beautiful UK countryside.
I agree with what you say, i am by no means right now recommending this as i just dont have the miles to judge it yet, but i guess we will all find out on the channel together over a bit of time if this is any good.
I use Google Maps with my phone on a RAM Mount cos I like the fact that my phone is also charging as I ride. My worry with the Carpuride would be that my phone would go flat while it's in my pocket but transmitting GPS data to the Carpuride. Other than this the display looks top notch !
I have been watching your videos for a while, funny this should pop up as I have just been given one of these units myself, first impressions it connects up seemingly, and has a great display, my only gripe is it is not truly quick release so I am modifying it to work with quad lock, then this will replace using my phone as a satnav on the bike.
Hi fella. Google maps failed me in the middle of Italy, poor signal plus the routing was at times unusable. I've switched to DMD2 and switch between that, Outdooractive and Calimoto. I highly recommend the DMD2 smartphone, fits perfectly in line of sight above the AT's main display.
@@ontheroadadventure Nomad Sweden do great tutorials on youtube, well worth a look. If you want to see my setup I should have it running tyre pressures assuming eBay comes good on my tpms valves.
I had the 502 on my BMW for 12000 miles, I found the audio was better if you pair the carpuride and the phone, but the pair the phone to the headset (Sena). With iPhone you can use Calimoto as well.
Hi, I’m using the basic Aaooocci, costs under £100, but no usb connection. It’s got to be wired to the bike, so the phone is connected to the usb which stops it draining while using maps and radar bot. It’s a smaller screen, but perfectly good enough. I’ve fitted those crash bar bags you recommended, great for carrying the water proofs and spare winter gloves if it turns nasty. Cheers.
@@ontheroadadventure yes it was a ram mount locking kit I used to on my sat nav, the nut just carries on spinning until the key is put in to then undo it 👍
So I've got the w702b which I do like but gmaps through this doesn't quite do as well as my sat nav did as it doesn't show speed limits and current speed...when my phone screen does? Change to Waze and everything is fine..kinda helps keep my licence!
next to my zumo xt (witch is sensitive to its setting...... to go strange regulary) ill use the Sigic app on my phone (the sister software of a tomtom unit) as a fail safe or as 2e offline navigation just my 2cents.....
Its a good plan, But in fairness we shouldnt have to plan for a fail safe, a product either works well or it doesnt, we gave up on the garmin, it turned into a liability for us
I think I must be stuck in the past....I look at a map. write a few directions down, then pop them in my pocket where I can't see them....always works for me...🤣
Where do you keep your Vinyls? Seriously though, once you have this information in front of you, Camera alerts, upcoming delays, re routing etc youll not go with out
If we are on route, the satnav will tell us if for example the road is blocked ahead because of an accident so you can get off the road before you get stuck in a que...
@@ontheroadadventure Last time that happened to me I was heading south on the A34, having just passed Oxford. I had no map, my phone was in my pocket, so I just followed my nose. I popped back out at Newbury. Perfect.
The Carpuride might be great, but 1. It's expensive. There are much cheaper versions that do the same thing on Ali. 2. Removing it each time you park is a PAIN. Fiddly wire connection to undo and the Ram ball sticking out. Im trying a bolt with a nylock nut so i can leabe it on the bike with a Ram locking nut on order.
I am going to buy the Ram mount just to make it more flexible ? which Ram mount do you have and who did you get it from mate . I hope that the Ram mount will fit . Thanks 👍👍👍. I already have the USB socket just need to get the unit delivered and get it fitted . What connection did you use .I mean for power . I am riding a CBR1000F and a Bandit 1200 . So its none of them have a modern fuze box. What head set are you using with your new lids??
The Mounts come in the box but they are pretty universal, i have similar mounts for allsorts from gopro mounts to light satnavs. YOu could wire a USB power port direct off of your battery, it will come with a inline fuse so simple to do on each bike and they are cheap. We use Cardos on the helmets
I have the 702B Pro which I bought as they wouldn't send me one comp to review ... maybe they know how my reviews are 😄. Did a couple of reviews with more to come especially after a 2500 mile trip a few weeks ago. Overall, it is a keeper, but it has flaws.
Yeah so the problem with the built in one is firstly you either need a cable to your phone or you buy a wireless dongle thingy, after that i found that it takes so long to boot up and connect, every time you turn off the bike which becomes frustrating fast, it will sometimes lose connection to the headset too. Another problem is that it must have a headset connected to work, even if you dont want any sound. this means if your headset dies on a tour not only do you lose comms with your riding partner biut you lose satnav at the same time... Also the AT screen is not very bright in the sun.. Im testing out the Carpuride as a alternative
I don't need cell connectivity and the fancy features of CarPlay. I want a good front/rear digital video recorder with large bright screen that displays the rear view whenever the bike is running so I can see what's behind me. I don't want to spend a minute when the bike starts waiting for Android to power up so I can run an app and switch to rear view. I want it to just work. Any suggestions?
The Twin does take forever to turn on carplay and connect, it will often lose the pairing between phone and bike and the display is hard to read especially in the sun
I tried the 502 once, cause I liked the idea of having a bigger screen and Android Auto on my old 98 BMW. Unfortunately my App I like to use for my tours (it's called Motobit) is not compatible with Android Auto, so you can't put it on the screen. And so it doesn't made sense to keep it. And to be honest, I think I should have Tagen the 702 wirh the bigger screen. But I really liked the idea to tuck away the phone and still be able to use it. And yeah... sometimes it is difficult to use google maps when you don't have any reception with your phone. So maybe you should take the Garmin with you on Ewas bike so that you have an alternative. Just in case...
@@12masterr and even then it usually doesn't work because you don't have good mobile access everywhere in Europe (actually all over the world) a navigation system like Garmin or TomTom (I'm a spoiled TomTom user) they always have a connection even in tunnels, unfortunately you have to connect Garmin to the PC too often to update, which TomTom has the advantage of with WiFi
I haven't as yet lost signal, but as it mimics your mbl and is connected to your mbl network, I would assume it's a possibility. But I'd be very interested to see if this happens when you tour abroad. Connect it to your helmet and you'll hear the NAV instructions or just follow the screen without voice. I always loosen the bolt and take it off and put it in my Top box when ever I leave the bike, as you said, it's easy to nick. As of yet, uve had no problems with signal loss whatsoever. PS have you binned that small tent? 😅
Hi we use the Cardos, they have been very good and we use them allot! We had senas before that let us down all the time in the rain, we dont recommend them
You can but you need to then mount your phone and connect up, it lags and is very slow to load up everytime you turn the bike on and often loses connection, basically its not very good
Confused 🤷🏻♂️ does that pick up everything via Bluetooth from your phone to operate? So your phone relays it to the screen unlike an independent satnav unit ? If so then when ( they do ) phone network goes down , or your up in some remote area without phone coverage then does that mean your also without satnav? And if you require a phone connected permanently then what about data charges whilst touring different countries ? I’m still using motorrad 6 ( garmin ) on my bmw because it’s independent unlike BMW’s latest offering for that reason
Most sat nav apps (including google maps) allow you to download maps for offline use. As long as you remember to do so for each area or country you will be in, you do not need a mobile signal and it doesn’t use any mobile data.
Hmmm so it’s just really an upgrade for a vehicle which doesn’t have a touchscreen and relies 100% on a connected phone? In which case have you thought of a simple Quadlock / USB charger to hold the phone so you can then use Google maps? Seems to not be a GPS unit which uses satellites so it doesn’t need a phone signal. Look forward to the test video.
I see what your saying but I don’t want my phone on the bars incase of theft, a accident or vibrations damaging the camera etc but most importantly I need a big clear display
That’s fair enough but Quadlock do offer a dampener for under the phone but on top of the charging unit (just saying). I’ve recently invested in an iPhone 15 Pro Max and believe me I don’t want to damage it either 🙀 anyway hope it works out for you.
We remember that kind offer bud sadly we were not nearby... We wish we could be there, Ewa just looked at the temp there right now! Are you living out there?
The offer still stands and It’s there if you ever need it. I live in the uk and I teach Spanish online. A lot of my clients have apartments there as well and some live there full time. Take care you two !
We would love to take you up on this next time we are in Spain, We would fly there but we need bikes there, its too cold to ride there this time of year...
It does work but its incredibly slow to load up and you need to connect the phone via the usb and then attach the phone to the bars. its not ideal, i dont want my phone on the bars where its so easily damaged or stolen
@ontheroadadventure Yes I see that but I haven't seen a single video of it showing the speedometer inside Google maps in this device. Looking for someone to confirm that option transfers over to this device.
@@ontheroadadventure Yep that's why I am looking for other options now. They did a good job hiding that in the description. No idea why they wouldn't add that feature to the units. Especially for those who ride bikes without a speedometer it would be nice to have. Appreciate the response.
Well it’s a 7 inch display so it can be seen much easier, for me I don’t like my phone on the bars, not just to protect the iPhones camera from vibration but also from grab phone thefts and of course damage should you have an accident.
@@ontheroadadventureyes I saw it awhile ago and no bad reviews on it so hopefully it will do you well?I have a recommendation for motorcycles tent? 2024 Kyman Loctex Dallinton was £550 now £379.99 + 27 ground sheet life time guarantee and 30 day money back? Carpuride is not a satnav. It’s just a screen than mirrors you phone. Because it’s mirrors your phone you need to power your phone permanently because the phone battery will get empty pretty quick.
I agree up to a point. The phone uses more battery because it’s sustaining a GPS connection and a Bluetooth connection and running an app like Google Maps- but on my phone (iPhone 13 Pro Max) I can get the through the thick end of a full day’s riding before I run out of battery. YMMV. I carry a battery pack and hook it up in the late afternoon if I’m doing a long day.
Curious to know where a device like this sits with regards to the law as it’s illegal to operate a mobile phone while on the bike and this is purely an extension of that. That’s lit the blue touch paper, now I’ll stand back and await any comments😉👍😂
@@ontheroadadventure hi Rich, there is a cheaper alternative in plain site that costs pennies compared to orther devises on the market. But it's not fare to advertise it here as it will conflict with the product you've introduced here.
Im assuming we are talking about putting the phone on the bars? Whilst this will work, im not keen on having my phone on them where it is easily grabbed. This new screen, wonky like the last one. Love it ! 🤣😆
Standard procedure..
I can plug the phone into the bike but this does defeat the object of the Carpuride really... Makes me wonder if the Quadlock is the right solution...
Cool, SatNav! If you lose service on your phone in a low coverage area, google maps will stop working as well. Downloading offline maps is a good safety net in a pinch.
That is my main worry, I guess we will find out if this becomes a problem
I like to try that Carpuride 702 pro because my Garmin Zumo XT is a nightmare. I had the same problems durng my motorvacation as you guys. Great to see that I'm not the only one who bought a
pig in a poke.
No your not the only one, we read many people’s comments who have had similar troubles with no real solution 🤷♂️
Likewise. Have you looked at an android phone running DMD2?
Personally i think id prefer a dedicated tablet, i dont really want my phone on the bars
Yes it’s going to be interesting testing this in the long run and see what problems occur
Top choice, I have been using the 702 since February. I have been touring with it on a few occasions. Never let me down. Faultless. I think you will love it. I have used it with an apple IPhone 11 and now iPhone 15 👍
This is good news! I have found though that the volume now on my headset doesnt adjust the music volume?
@@ontheroadadventure
I pair the phone to the headset, cardo and have a senna and WiFi the phone to the carpurride.
I think i need to play with the setting a bit
Besides yourself I also follow Bikes and Brushes, Fay has been using a 502 version and is happy with it. They have just come back from a tour in France and no mention of problems. Very good unbiased review looks like what I will be asking Santa for this year. At least you get speed cameras with google maps for free.😊
Yes Google maps seems to be the way to go, its constantly updated and hasnt failed me anywhere yet... My only question is if the phone loses signal do you lose maps?
@@ontheroadadventure not sure although I know you can download the map of an area.
Thats not ideal for us as we can cross countries in a day...
I'm sure you will love it.
it sounds lik a good bit of kit, i cant wait to try it out properly
Love the confidence you have when filtering… I’m slightly apprehensive especially when it’s tight 🫣
Cheers Steve, the Best training is just putting in the miles in the city
I have bought a NAVIFLY 105€ 6,24 inch does exactly the same with cameras front and rear control button bars and it’s fixed on cradle . As some one said it mimics your phone , if you lose signal this will as well👍 but it’s very good for the money I would recommend it 💪🏼👍
Excellent 👌 Have you tried downloading maps incase you lose signal?
Ride safe 👍
Sometimes if it ain’t broke don’t fix it! I don’t think we could do a tour using paper maps, we would need allot of them!
Nice video sir. Have had the Carpuride 502B on my K1600 for about 9 months /3k miles and can’t fault it regardless of situation. Hopefully you guys have a similar experience. Keep the videos coming! Cheers
What happens if you ride somewhere with no signal on the phone? have you tried abroad?
Well i guess we are going to find out one way or another...
This is a concern for me... I guess time will tell if its a problem
Thanks Gavin, What happens if your phone runs out of signal?
@@ontheroadadventure Sorry I`ve not encountered that issue yet.
Well thats a good thing!
I am going to follow with interest to see how you get on with using this, it looks fantastic on the bike
Sure, we will let you know how we get on with it, as you know we ride allot of miles so this will get a good testing
@@ontheroadadventure I have 3 bikes so the fact that I only need to buy one is perfect
Perfect for that
Hi Rich. I run a Tom Tom.. Must admit never had much of a issue. Even across Europe.. But I must admit this interests me.. However, totally agree it's the non connection issue with data etc.. So will be interested in your long term review..
We will keep you updated how we get on with it
Enjoy bud, mines been good so far 👍
Tried it, got totally exasperated with it randomly losing connection, not plotting routes and random screen jumping. Carpuride refused to honour their 60 day return, to the point of warning me it could be lost if I tried to return. Good luck with yours, mine went in the bin!
Oh that sucks... We will have to see how i get on over the coming weeks
Worth a try
I will try Waze, not done that one before. What happens if you run out of phone signal?
@@ontheroadadventure TomTom & Sygic both allow for downloading offline maps of the whole world. Loosing signal or data is never a issue as maps are stored on your phone
We would need to pay for the tom tom app then?
@@ontheroadadventure Hi Rich waze is completely free you don't need TT app hope that helps

Other than that, will be interesting to see how „carpuride“ will suite your needs.
40% is a great discount!! Well done for scoring that one
I bought one for my summer trip to Pakistan from Netherlands trough UAE (dubai-Abu Dabi). FLAWLESSSS +1
Did you find it used your phone battery quickly? Did you need to buy new SIM cards for your travels through those countries or are you using a ESIM?
Im not sure about cameras on a bike... Could get you into bother...
...I bought an 8 sided dice once, for random touring.....In the morning, throw it and the number relates to direction.
That’s such a cool idea! We would do that!
Love this idea! I don't do any touring abroad as yet but will be doing this for my rides out! Thank you!
This is going to start a new trend!
If only I had bars, I've bought a inch one with tps and cameras front and rear. I have a plan 😂 great video and it does look super bright and clear too. Cracking as ever
THe Big Display is Excellent, im hoping this is going to be good...
@@ontheroadadventure I meant 5 inch not an inch lol yes I can imagine it's a real bonus
Did this n my GS in the summer
Cracking piece of kit
Any issues with it eating battery or running out of signal?
I use Google Maps with my phone on a RAM Mount cos I like the fact that my phone is also charging as I ride. My worry with the Carpuride would be that my phone would go flat while it's in my pocket but transmitting GPS data to the Carpuride. Other than this the display looks top notch !
Yeah i have heard from others that it can get through battery life quicker on the phone... I guess we will have to try and see
I have been watching your videos for a while, funny this should pop up as I have just been given one of these units myself, first impressions it connects up seemingly, and has a great display, my only gripe is it is not truly quick release so I am modifying it to work with quad lock, then this will replace using my phone as a satnav on the bike.
I’d be interested to see how the quad lock situation works out, I agree with all you have said there..
@@ontheroadadventure I will email you some pictures, it worked out quite well!
Hi fella.
Google maps failed me in the middle of Italy, poor signal plus the routing was at times unusable. I've switched to DMD2 and switch between that, Outdooractive and Calimoto. I highly recommend the DMD2 smartphone, fits perfectly in line of sight above the AT's main display.
Your not the first to have had issues like this it seems... We will have to see how we get on... DMD could well be next then
@@ontheroadadventure it's well worth a look. Have you got an android phone you can try it on, DMD2 is a free download.

I had the 502 on my BMW for 12000 miles, I found the audio was better if you pair the carpuride and the phone, but the pair the phone to the headset (Sena). With iPhone you can use Calimoto as well.
Cheers il play with the setting a bit and see what works well. I didnt get on with calimoto, prefer google maps
Cheers.
Youll never be without those lomo bags now i bet... They are so useful
Just to add I use a ram ball locking kit. It’s key locked on. I leave it on 24/7 and it’s wired in through a thunderbox
Oh ok this stops it being removed?
@@ontheroadadventure yes it was a ram mount locking kit I used to on my sat nav, the nut just carries on spinning until the key is put in to then undo it 👍
That sounds great, il look online to try and find it

Hi I see you had a xtgo on e bay look for xt and there's a person on there selling a adapter to fit you old Garmin mount to carpuride 👍
Thanks for the info il check it out
So I've got the w702b which I do like but gmaps through this doesn't quite do as well as my sat nav did as it doesn't show speed limits and current speed...when my phone screen does? Change to Waze and everything is fine..kinda helps keep my licence!
Oh ok that’s interesting I wonder why it doesn’t show speeds? We do need that information
Yea phone battery goes down a lot but I keep my phone plugged into usb or power bank
I have found that today using it yes
next to my zumo xt (witch is sensitive to its setting...... to go strange regulary)
ill use the Sigic app on my phone (the sister software of a tomtom unit)
as a fail safe or as 2e offline navigation
just my 2cents.....
Seriously though, once you have this information in front of you, Camera alerts, upcoming delays, re routing etc youll not go with out
lol..I look before I go...I don't take maps with me.
Perfect.
I do like your old school approach
The Carpuride might be great, but
Yes I agree a ram lock is what’s needed 👍
What flaws have you found?
Maybe I missed it in the review but the Africa Twin already has Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, what's the point of this device?
Yeah so the problem with the built in one is firstly you either need a cable to your phone or you buy a wireless dongle thingy, after that i found that it takes so long to boot up and connect, every time you turn off the bike which becomes frustrating fast, it will sometimes lose connection to the headset too. Another problem is that it must have a headset connected to work, even if you dont want any sound. this means if your headset dies on a tour not only do you lose comms with your riding partner biut you lose satnav at the same time... Also the AT screen is not very bright in the sun.. Im testing out the Carpuride as a alternative
looks a nice bit of kit rich
I hope its better than the Garmin!
Have a look at Aoocci, that one is popular and has cameras
How is it different than using the built in car play on the africa twin?
The Twin does take forever to turn on carplay and connect, it will often lose the pairing between phone and bike and the display is hard to read especially in the sun
Looks good rich nice and simple 👌
We like simple it always works out best in the end... Good old google maps
Just in case...
im holding high hopes for this gadget, Perhaps your right though and we should carry the garmin on ewas bike for now and see if we get any issues
No phone signal no maps !. When you travel Europe you may find this out .
Nope, you can download maps in your phone.
@@12masterr So without data how does it know where you are ?
@@12masterr and even then it usually doesn't work because you don't have good mobile access everywhere in Europe (actually all over the world) a navigation system like Garmin or TomTom (I'm a spoiled TomTom user) they always have a connection even in tunnels, unfortunately you have to connect Garmin to the PC too often to update, which TomTom has the advantage of with WiFi
@49googie I downloaded the maps before going anywhere, so the data is already there.
I do worry about this scenario
I haven't as yet lost signal, but as it mimics your mbl and is connected to your mbl network, I would assume it's a possibility. But I'd be very interested to see if this happens when you tour abroad. Connect it to your helmet and you'll hear the NAV instructions or just follow the screen without voice.
I always loosen the bolt and take it off and put it in my Top box when ever I leave the bike, as you said, it's easy to nick. As of yet, uve had no problems with signal loss whatsoever. PS have you binned that small tent? 😅
Cheers Andy, upto now i always removed the garmin so its no bother to take this one off each time too. Yes that tent has been retired!
Won't it be using up your mobile data allowance when used in Europe?
Yes it relies on the phone although you can download maps in advance
Rich, off topic, which comms system do you and Ewa use? And would you advise others to use that?
Hi we use the Cardos, they have been very good and we use them allot! We had senas before that let us down all the time in the rain, we dont recommend them
I thought you could do carplay through the AT screen?
You can but you need to then mount your phone and connect up, it lags and is very slow to load up everytime you turn the bike on and often loses connection, basically its not very good
Will we not have to pay duties and vat for goods from the us
Im not sure this one was sent to me FOC
These are all questions i will find out the answer too, if im honest i dont know myself yet and have the same thoughts but we will see
You can only do small areas at a time though i believe which is a problem for long distance touring
@@ontheroadadventure and do you get ‘safety cameras’ ( they are legal in most countries) and handy to have your satnav give you a heads up
I believe google maps gives that info?
Stay tuned and I guess we will find out together
I guess it the same when I offered you a stay at my apartment in Murcia. 🤔

How is this different from what you already have on the African twin? Does the Honda Apple car play not work? Thanks
It does work but its incredibly slow to load up and you need to connect the phone via the usb and then attach the phone to the bars. its not ideal, i dont want my phone on the bars where its so easily damaged or stolen
You can get a wireless dongle for the Africa twin then it’ll work just like the Carpuride
We have one to try out in the near future and will compare the two pros and cons
Does the Carpuride
speedometer work wit google maps or Gaia offroad maps?
It’s displaying Google maps from your phone

Carpuride is not a satnav. It’s just a screen than mirrors you phone. Because it’s mirrors your phone you need to power your phone permanently because the phone battery will get empty pretty quick.
Yep, fair point well made...
Power bank in the pocket is always a option
Curious to know where a device like this sits with regards to the law as it’s illegal to operate a mobile phone while on the bike and this is purely an extension of that.
That’s lit the blue touch paper, now I’ll stand back and await any comments😉👍😂
I think its only illegal when you put it in your hand? a good question though, one that im not sure of the answer... will need to investigate this
Sent mine back as awful with android
Sorry to hear that bud
Is there sound
Only when connected to your headset
Yes you will regret it the moment your phone in your pocket looses signal. Saterlite is the way to go
This is number one concern!
Also If the phone gets damaged in a accident you have a problem, but mainly the phone screen is just to small for me to clearly read at a glance whilst riding

In a round about way yes. I purchased a second hand moto Rola phone off flea bay for 60 quid that had a 6 inch screen.
Invented a spurious email address so I could log on to the App store then down loaded a brilliant nav app. Here's the best bit don't need a sim card and if the phone Flys off the bike or some scum bag nicks it it's only a phone and not information back to me. There is more about the app that's really useful and it's cheap to install
Yes but use a cheap phone, no sim card needed
Well, I have a 702b, and is unusable at night because is too bright, and on top of tjat tjere isn't auto dimming, so you have to go tru several menis just to adjust the brightness, that is stupid in a motorcycle. On top of that, the display is not that responsive, so I have to press more than once to make it work. It's not worth the money!
Sorry to hear that you had problems
