  • Kyle is in Arizona checking out this Hyundai IONIQ 6 Limited for the first time! While he didn't have a Model 3 to compare in real time, that will be coming soon, he recounts his experience of being a Tesla Model 3 owner for 5 years to evaluate the electric Hyundai sedan in the context of Tesla's Model 3.

    I own both Tesla model 3 and an Ionic 6 Limited…I will say the Hyundai is much more quiet and smoother ride. Build quality is better than Tesla hands down. Also nice having a car you don’t see 4 of the same at every intersection lol

      Frankly, I love seeing other Tesla's at a 4 way intersection, the more I see, the wider my grin.
      If I'm on a decent road, my ride comfort is just fine. I do wish it had a driver screen or HUD but when introduced, they had no competition and no reason to add extras considering that simplicity was the goal of the design and they nailed it.
      I use most every function on the auto setting and it works flawlessly for my tastes.
      So far, the only car I see that I consider interesting is the ID.7.
      Hyundai's just don't cut it for me and never have, just a lot of flash in regard to looks but less than class leading on the operations side.
      I was looking at a possible upgrade to a Genesis but dealer reviews in my area killed that idea very quickly.

    He basically said the IONIQ 6 is the better car, smoother, quieter, and better build quality. And more room. Then proceeded to say the model 3 is better because you have a better experience, which means you dont need to start it, and Tesla have a better APP. WTF. Its not a phone, its a cars. Surely more comfortable, quieter and more space is better. Teslas have hard suspension, im currently driving a model X ludicrous with FSD. And dont get the hype about Tesla

      You have to pay extra for the charging network
      You have to pay extra for the handling
      You have to pay extra for the acceleration
      You have to pay extra for the top end model, the base model with extended range for the Ioniq 6 has the same range as the top model
      Of course they'd make it easy to pay for all the addon packages required to make the car usable--A car that has been out for years is of course going to be easier to find and purchase when it is so mainstream compared to a brand new one.
      You have to pay extra to unlock most of the software--Also plugshare, android auto and carplay exist, making this point moot. Also tesla maps usually just navigates users to Tesla chargers, which you have to pay extra for. You can also select for DC/fast chargers in the navigation menu.
      Ioniq 6 purchases qualify for a $5000 purchase credit and a $7500 lease credit on top of that.
      He missed all of these points. Not everyone wants to be sucked into an ecosystem where they have to pay thousands in months subscriptions and fees to keep a product usable.

      @@hintzod10 month update:
      Ioniq will have access to tesla network
      Ioniq easily has better handling, not even close, Tesla has bare minimum specs for their car, braking and handling are atrocious for m3 since all money went into 0-60 time.
      Close 0-60 diff, something like .3 seconds in real world tests.
      Ioniq performs better in real world range tests even at high trims, even beating highland.
      Dealership experience is still awful for Ioniq
      Supports Carplay and Android Auto which both are infinitely better software solutions
      Ioniq qualifies for Tax credit, Tesla does not

  • @Snerdles
    @Snerdles ปีที่แล้ว +4

    In Canada, thanks to that base trim, the base price of 54999 makes the Ioniq 6 eligible for up to 10k of provincial and federal rebates. Only the RWD Tesla qualifies in Canada so the performance version doesn't qualify.
    That means this advice is exactly backwards in Canada. This means if you want the AWD Ioniq 6 it is 63999 minus up to 10k... And the Tesla Performance is 72990 with no rebate. That's a pretty huge gap in price between the two.

  • @ezpoppy55

    Nicely done comparison, Kyle. I look forward to the in-depth version.
    I love my Model 3, but… some don’t want to get a Tesla. It’d be interesting for those individuals to do a comparison of just non-Tesla EVs only, as Tesla is a non-starter for them. Then they could compadre Android-to-Android only.
    Curious, as more manufacturers are starting (imho) to focus more on faster charging speed rather than bigger battery size (a smart move, I think), how does the longevity of the battery pack get affected by these high rates of charge over longer periods of time? How is that being achieved? Different chemistry? Better BMS? Or is there enough data at this point to determine what happens to the battery pack after repeated high speed charging over years of use? And does this high speed charging hold true at home (obviously not the same rate on a Level 2 charger as DC charger)?
    Great video. Nice camera work, too!

      @MrTekniqs ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s already known that fast charging is not good for longevity. That’s why you should charge daily at home and only fast charge on road trips. Kyle has covered this in other videos.

    • @adrianguggisberg3656
      @adrianguggisberg3656 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrTekniqs I'm willing to challenge this statement. My last EV was a 2017 28kWh Ioniq. I put over 250'000km (160k miles) on the clock and it went through over 1000 DC fast charging sessions. Bear in mind this had a tiny battery. A Model 3 LR would have to do about 420k miles to put its battery through the same number of cycles. The car not only looked like new, it also had no noticable battery degradation. Now that thing charged at insane speed. Faster than even a current Model 3. I think fast charging doesn't hurt a decent quality battery much. Charging it over 80% and discharging it below 10% is what degrades and damages the battery. Maybe also not using it. Note that the above doesn't apply for LFP batteries.

    Beauty, as always, is in the eye of the beholder. It looks great to me from the front but from the sides and the back like Kyle says, they chose aerodynamics over looks. Other details that are a concern are needing an on/off function and the poor infotainment which is a deal breaker for me right there. I can see it appealing to some buyers for the quieter ride though. If they play the limited supply game with this one, it is also telling me that they are losing their shirts on this vehicle at this price point.

      Top scores in crash test ratings for Ioniq 6. In Sweden there will be a yearly or 20 000km service interval at a fairly modest price of USD 145-195. We also pay less in road tax due to no pollution from fossil fuel. We have calculated to save more than USD 6000 per year compared to our diesel Honda Accord Estate since we also have solar panels to cover for our 40 000km/year driving range.

    Kyle, you didn't mention the 360 degree parking assist you get with the Hyundai. You don't get that feature with Tesla? Or I think its a white back ground with a line indicating where obstructions might be? I'm driving a Nexo currently and looking for my next car, once the lease is done. I use the 360 camera when I'm parking at job sites, or going to the store and parking by a curb. Knock on wood, I haven't rubbed the rim's. I've done that in the past with other car's that different offer or have that feature in the past. I just don't see that type of detail in Tesla at this point. I'd hate to screw up the rims on a Tesla, if I went that direction.
    The other item you didn't mention is Apple and Android connection. I've been informed with the SEL and Limited on the Hyundai, you need to wire connect your phone to use all of the features of the phone with the car? I haven't seen a good detail on that yet on YT. Tesla, I think is full wireless? The 2020 Nexo Limited I'm driving has full wireless. I don't want to be plugging in my phone when their is a wireless charge pad. I don't want to waste time, connecting a wire to the bottom of my phone. I know their are wireless Connections you can buy for the phone to connect to the car, just now sure how reliable they are. I do like the back end of this car, reminds me of a 911. Its different. I like that this car to the Ioniq 5 look really different. Not like a clone from Tesla. I follow you on your out of spec review's. Can't image the number of hours you drive on the freeway.

    Last year I was about to buy a Tesla but since they raised the price by 20% (here in France at least), I said no to myself. In the mean time, the Ioniq 6 was presented and I am now waiting for one to come. It should not be long now. Actually, the delivery day was in January, then March (for the so called "first-edition", available only in Europe)… because of some delays. At this day, the delays are crazy and I’ve send some request to customer service to ask what is going on (I still don’t have a clear answer, but it’s probably related to the strikes and (almost) civil war going on here in France, especially since Hyundai chooses to deliver the country through the cargo port in France (which is known for being crap), instead of a cargo port in Belgium, Spain or Holland.
    This being said, if the delays are getting out of hand, while the rest of the world are being delivered, I’ll cancel the order and go to Tesla 3 LR.
    Actually, both cars look great and have theire up and downsides. I wish to have the Ioniq 6, but I won’t wait an eternity for Hyundai to deliver whereas Tesla has a bunch of cars ready for delivery right now. I could literally buy the very spec I would want and get it at the end of the week.
    Thanks for the video. Because even if I’m waiting for my Ioniq 6 to arrive, I’m also still weighing the pros and cons of the Tesla M3 VS the Ioniq 6.

      However, as Kyle says: numbers and stuff aint everything. The Ioniq comes with the regens pellets, that I like VERY much on my actual 2020 Ioniq. Besides, the overall design, in and outside of the Ioniq is better IMO.

    The Hyundai looks beautiful, functional and more classic car-like… on the surface. BUT, as a person who keeps cars for 5 to 15 years, I worry about how the Hyundai will age. Tesla has been building and perfecting electric cars for more than 10 years, and automotive experts marvel at the ingenuity of Tesla’s battery, heating and cooling systems, and at the over engineering of the Model 3’s structure. Hyundai has had some very serious recalls of its recent electric and ICE cars, while Tesla’s are mostly fixed by over-the-air updates. So, in the end one should ask: Do you want a car that appears well assembled on the surface, or one that is designed competently underneath?
