Gary, this is great. I’ve recently become an iMovie editor due to some equipment issues. FCPX can’t be used and masks were one of my favorite tools. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Maybe I don’t need a new MacBook Pro…Nah!

Great hack Gary as usual but I gotta tell ya I just don’t have that kind of patience
Fortunately I do also have FCP and I don’t know if it’s just me but I seem to use iMovie and keynote the majority of the time it’s just so convenient but for things like this if I ever do decide to use I thankfully have FCP but I do absolutely appreciate your never ending effort to help us all it’s so awesome and appreciated

Gary, I absolutely love your videos and how you geek out! I am like that too and so appreciate your helpful tips that save so much time but are high impact. Teaching online now has become harder than ever, we have to keep the kids attention for longer times. Even the adults for that matter. Would love it if you could elaborate on more of these transitions like you referred to at the end of your video. Thank you again! 🙏🏻

Excellent video! I’ve often wondered how they do this kind of effect. There’s another transition where the camera will go behind a door frame for example and then the next scene will come from behind the door frame on the other side. I’d love you to do introduction to Final Cut and introduction to Logic videos! Or more GarageBand related content! Thanks Gary!

Truly grateful! You are an excellent teacher! I have a question? The formula for speeding up depends on the framerate for the original film stock right? So in your case you made each slide progress by 1 second and exported as 4k 30p... So since there are 18 slides (representing one frame each) and each frame is 1/30th of a second that means the original clip was supposed to move at a total of 0.6 seconds... The finished .mov was 18 seconds long... So I assume you then calculated that we need to multiply the speed by an order of 0.6 x (set iMovie frame rate) x 100 and that is how we arrived at 3,000% increase! I have tried it and it works flawlessly... So long as you film your stock footage (for the transition) at 30p and create our iMovie with 30p you can just "blindly" apply a speed-up of 3,000%! Thank you so very much! I am now a big fan of your channel!!!

Thanks very much for this I will give it a test very soon. Have you tried using the function in Quick Time Player " Open Image Sequence" as I think it will create the required movie much quicker than using Keynote?
