Fantastic! This absolute amazing! This is the best video I have seen on GL1800 fork seal replacement. I have a 2007 with progressive upgrade and I am going to make this replacement myself. I failed my state inspection due to fork oil leaking so I must get it done. Thank you so so much.

@@michaelhoare5291 YES! The Flat Washer was installed incorrectly here! It goes between the Spring and the Spacer NOT under the Spring.

The Pro’s Corner! Presents another real rider experience. Do not attempt this at home unless you are well qualified or find help. Wear your safety glasses too. Great job as always Chris. Thank you Dustin! Ride safe and ride often.

Thank you, thank you Chris and Dustin for making this video. This gives me the confidence to change the fork seals when it happens. Not all heroes wear capes!

Hi Guys, Thank for your time taken to explain the assembly and filling with fork oil. I notice ONE slight mistake you made when adding oil into the tube to measure the 5 inch level. The tube should be empty with no fork spring in it before you throw the fork oil in and measure the 5 inch level. Never too old to learn. Greetings from South Africa. By the way, this comes out of the Honda Goldwing Service manual

Your garage makes mine look like a junkyard! I'm jealous. About the springs- The 1800 Wings from '01 to '17 have progressive wound springs as stock. Upgrade aftermarket progressive springs are cheap if you are down this far on a seal repair. That's obviously the time to do it. I have been happy with the reasonably priced springs from "Progressives". Lube the seals with CLEAN fork oil, not used dirty, gritty fork oil. Just my opinion. Thanks!

Thanks for the video. I feel much better now doing the work myself and save some money. Well actually use the money saved to go toward buying a new Henry's Final Drive. 😁

You're taking a huge risk slipping the new seal on to the fork with no protection over the top of the fork, and dry. You could easily nick the inside lip of the new seal. Likewise if there's even the tiniest pitting or spots of rusting where the fork is clamped. Electrical tape or clingfilm around the top edge, and even down the for if necessary, smeared with fork oil, is good practice.

@ 8:10 the Flat Washer fell from the top of the spring into the pan.. then at 29:46 you installed the washer under the spring instead of on top. I'm quite sure the Washer rides on top of the spring between the upper tube Spacer 👍😎✊

Job looks familiar. I’m on my second set of seals. My 2013 sits at 82,000 miles. However I live in the desert Southwest where blowing dust creates havoc on seals.

The shop manual is correct about putting lock tight on the dampener bolts. I use a tool with socket extensions to hold the dampener so the bolts can be removed. I haven’t had any problems removing dampener bolts. Also any stubborn bolt can usually be removed by giving it a sharp tap with a hammer.

Hi Chris, I love your video but have one question. I have done several fork rebuilds on older Gl1800's, my 2013 blew a fork seal, easy fix, but can not get the bold on the bottom to grab or torque up. The inside keeps spinning, I even put full pressure on the shock spring, no luck. 1.5 hours doing the fork, and now 2 days trying to get the screw in the bottom to torque up. Any thoughts? It's in your video 27min 20 seconds. Thanks, ridered

More information, the pressed in nut in the bottom of the dampener spins inside the dampner housing. I can try to correct that or just buy another new dampner I guess. Sku: 51430-MCA-003
      Any thoughts?

Finally figured it out. They sent me replacement bolts with the seal kit. The bolt they gave me was bottoming out! The original bolt with the new bronze washer snugged right up. Good lesson learned. 2 days, sore back, massive headache, think I will get it together and go for a ride tomorrow. Thanks for the great videos.

@@edbrennan6531 Enjoy your ride! When I get my parts, it'll be my turn to do the fork seals change. I'm hoping that I don't run into the same problem as you.
