    the graphics actually kinda remind me of the old Jedi Knight games, which makes sense, lucasarts, but at least those games where PC only and not ported onto a system that could at best BARELY run without crashing harder then some snappy software joke

    • @mattboy5296
      @mattboy5296 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It also makes sense because from my understanding, the original Xbox was essentially built from off the shelf PC parts Microsoft had inhouse. The console is literally just an, albeit limited, PC with a custom interface. That's why the Jedi Knight games could run as well as they did on the system, as well as the then Doom trilogy, both Knights of the Old Republic games, and why the Xbox was in general the more powerful console of that generation in terms of raw hardware capability when compared to the GameCube and especially the PS2.

    How is it that Indiana Jones as a movie is fairly down to earth, but goes into full on science fiction with their games? I mean, even Tomb Raider doesn't jump the shark that much, and that series also had aliens and dinosaurs. Truth be told, the one where he finds Moses' staff was an interesting premise, and I'd love more Biblical stuff in adventure games (IDK, it's just fascinating and kind of terrifying when games and movies try to make them real).

    Wonder how well this game would run if programmed for the Playstation 1? People really do not get how limited the N64 console was, and how lame it was compared to other 3D game consoles in the late 1990s like the Dreamcast and Saturn. There were awesome games on it, don't get me wrong (SM64, Mario Kart 64, and Banjo Kazooie are childhood favorites of mine), but let's take off our nostalgia goggles off. It was objectively lamer than other consoles of its time... Basically, use of cartridges = less data than CDs, which = far less N64 games than PS1 cause more gaming companies realized the potential of programming for CD data in comparison to cartridges. The N64 had a total of 393 in its lifespan, the PS1 4,105!!!!! Also, the Dreamcast had 615 games, and yet that console is considered less of a success than the N64.

    • @elin111
      @elin111 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      While the cartridge argument is a very reasonable that everyone agrees was a stupid boneheaded decision, the number of games hardly matters given that usually consoles with a very high number of games tend to be flooded with shovelware as was the case with the PS1, PS2, and Wii.

    • @Takimeko
      @Takimeko 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Comparing consoles largely based on the amount of games released for it is the most boneheaded thing i've ever seen.

    • @SihirbazTsar55
      @SihirbazTsar55 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The PlayStation 1 had weaker hardware than the N64, excluding sprite RAM. This argument about cartridges has nothing to do with the technical specs of the console. The N64 had more RAM, could render more polygons, and had a faster processor than the PS1; this fact has been known since the N64 was still being called "Ultra64" back in 1995. Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine would be impossible to run on a PlayStation without tons of changes and programing tricks, if not a total redesign.

    • @EYTPS
      @EYTPS 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Takimeko With due respect, you kind-of straw-manned there. It wasn't the fact that the PlayStation 1 had a bigger library that the Nintendo 64 that the PlayStation 1 was a better console, my argument was its tech was far better than the Nintendo 64 to the point that more companies were able to program games on the PlayStation 1 than the Nintendo 64, hence the PlayStation 1 having more titles.

    20:05 for list of stairs gags:
    Unfortunately for Indy, Stairlifts had not been invented yet.
    I know Harrison Ford is getting old, but this still seems like a lame climax for Indy 5.
    This is a lot of work to play with a Slinky.
    I always wondered why Stairway to Heaven was so dang long.
    These stairs were built for such long legs. Did this culture worshipped Bayonetta?
    Yeah, I guess we figured out why the short fat villain is letting Indy do all the work.
    One would think that of all the bugs that QA reported, somebody would have put “Ditch the Stairs”!
    Indy is just glad TH-cam isn’t around yet or this footage of him would go viral.
    Indy is now kicking himself for never using the StairMaster he got last Christmas.
    This new obstacle in American Ninja Warrior is not very good.
    Upon his return, Indy personally demolished all his university staircases and ordered them replaced with escalators.
    “I want to find the guy who invented the stairs and push him down these stairs just to show him how stupid stairs are!”
    And just like that, Infernal Machine is a better Castlevania game than Castlevania 64.
    “God, help me! I actually miss Short Round! He could give me a boost.”
    For all the talk of how technically advance this game was, Mario 64 staircase technology was miles ahead of them.
    “God, I hope this is the right pyramid.”
    I’m starting to see why Factor 5 was banned from making anything but Rogue Squadron after this. I would take a lightsaber to the chest for this day to just end!

      I enjoyed Donkey Kong 64 aside from some brutal bosses, and it continually pisses me off that the Donkey Kong Country Returns games have regressed DK from 3D to 2D games for the foreseeable future

    • @amazaneone1810
      @amazaneone1810 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Darklordjadow1 I brought up DK64 because it is hated by some for doing the collectathon aspect badly (Certain items can only be grabbed by certain characters, and the only way to swap characters is to enter sparsely placed Tag Barrels). Yeah, I think that the next modern Donkey Kong Country Game should be in 3D. If that happened, I would love for it to be in the style of Sackboy: A Big Adventure for the PS4 and PS5 and/or Kirby and the Forgotten Land for the Switch, since said games are linear with a good amount of secrets.

    • @franzpattison
      @franzpattison 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Darklordjadow1 Ah, I found I was caught in ad nauseum backtracking through labyrinthine levels, trying to find that one fire door or push wall or blood falls that would allow me to progress. That combined with the constantly respawning enemies made every level feel like an exercise of futility: no sense of triumph or finality, just endless repetition.
      But yes the platforming was nicely polished, if not a bit stiff, and I liked the plot premise and the effective way the environment conveyed a sense of dread, death, and helplessness. The music was iconic and great, and the voice acting was good despite some cheesy writing.
      But it was just the useless padding, the exhausting backtracking that made me feel like my time wasn't being respected. I still haven't completed it, because it takes too long to progress. Plenty of others have had no problem with it, but for me personally it wasn't focused enough to feel rewarded for the time committment.

    Been replaying this game recently, noticed some of the issues you mentioned seems to be controller issues, the game requires you to fully push the stick to its max but as you know N64 controllers are quite shit to even touch the border of the analog stick, that explains why Indy won’t run and climb chest levelled walls and etc.

    It's a shock to see how bad the game looks after all that effort they claimed to do to exploit the capabilities of the Nintendo 64 in that news post. Crash Bandicoot Warped looks more advanced than this game in at least some ways - not good for a game on a "superior" platform and the developers bragging about stuff such as snow particles and advanced textures not seen on most N64 games. The textures are the best part of it, at least.
    Then on top of that it has severe technical issues and glitches, and runs at a choppy frame rate too. Overall the technical aspects are not impressive after watching the review. Was that news post a lie?

    I've played the PC version and it seems far superior to what I saw in this video. In fact, I'm currently replaying it on Steam Deck (yes, it can run on SD, sadly the saving/loading is a bit bugged, so you can only quickload/quicksave). Interestingly, it seems to me that the N64 port has cut so many corners the gameplay feels completely different (again, this is coming only from the footage in this video), like the strange walking/running thing. The N64 controls seem shockingly terrible!

    • @MarcinSzyniszewski
      @MarcinSzyniszewski ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also at 14:30 you said the bridges collapse and you get only one shot at it - no, after the bridges collapse there are ledges underneath them that you can use to reach the same point. Another thing is that the game is supposed to come with an instruction manual, hence why there are no instruction manuals inside the game itself. So yes, most of the mechanics that you had to figure out in the video, were actually explained in the manual, including that yes, this was Quetzalcoatl that you were fighting in Mexico :)
