That bit with the nut inserts is a damn good idea. I cannot count the number of wing screws I replaced having to drive down a bumpy gravel road when i had my MK1. Keep up the good work. This is an awesome project and it makes me want to hurry and get mine....
Dan you are doing an amazing job, I discovered the Channel about 3 weeks ago and I have binge watched all your videos up to the latest caddy one, this mk1 project is my favourite and love watching how your welding and fabrication have progressed so far in such a short time, I have a mk2 golf restoration project and have learnt so many different techniques to try, keep up the amazing work, can't wait to see how your channel progresses
Good job. Really helpful info for my AX GT resto project I have planned. I'm hoping to get away without the shell strengthening braces though as the shell isn't really in that bad of condition really. Look forward to the next one
Cracking progress, well done! Love the rivnut idea. I’ve the same fittings on my mk2 and always hated them. Often the hole gets opened up too much from frequent front end changes! 👍
Now the wings are sitting a little higher on those rivnuts, do the swage lines/rubbing strips still line up from wing to door? That inner wing repair looked excellent. Great video again.
nice one, ive just been doing mine. almost the same. took a couple of hours to the get the front panel off. ive lined up and spotwelded one side on , just need another day of sun and it'll be done.
@@DanChambersDAC yeah defo, fitted and primed today.i had to cut a hole for the wiring for the side repeater as there no hole in the replacement inner wing panel.
Dan, if I thought there was one thing you could do differently to help reach your 100k goal I wouldn’t hesitate to suggest it! However in my opinion the answer is zero I’m afraid! Your work is so good mate, everyone loves quality. Be patient, it will happen I’m sure 👍🇬🇧😊
I was thinking of adding a small weld when I have them all fitted. I opted for these as I have had to replace some of the metal and lost the original fixing locations due to rust. This car will not be driven or out in the rain much so rust won't be an issue.
Mate you say your trying to get the magical 100000 subs, try putting that bit in the middle of your vids as when your at the end of your vids people who are not subscribed may just switch off. Keep up the vids great watching during lock down
I find if you can get good tin off another car, it fits up so much better than repunched stuff. As much as it's annoying how much prep a cut piece takes, the fit up is not even close.
Great video and really helpful!! Just started a restoration on my own MK1 gti and looking for a pair of front wings and a bonnet ,guessing those are from heritage and non genuine? Struggling to find decent genuine ones
Yup. Doing everything on my own is difficult. Trying to do all of the work while teaching myself how to do it at the same time as keeping an eye on the filming equipment and camera angles. Would rather not have footage but have a good repair than have a bad repair but good footage.
Dan Chambers. Making rebuilding rusty sheds look easy since 2020...
😂
I’m completely impressed.
Man, great progress, my dream car is a mk1 GTI. Keep us updated! I hope to see this baby running fast and shiny.
Cracking video again Dan 👍 she's taking shape now 👍😁 keep safe 😷😷
I still watch these even though I'm a Caddy owner. Keep on keeping on!

Cheers bud. In my mind they are a better fixing too.
Great little video and a good idea using riv-nut inserts.
Excellent work! Your videos are helping me be ready as I progress through working on my 81 rabbit pickup. 🤘

Thank you so much for watching bud! Glad you are enjoying it and good luck with your resto!
Very nice work...looking like a mk1 golf again ...must be exciting
Looking sooo good Dan, well done
Good work Dan
Bish Bash Bosh and another job is done!
Great work so far Dan, liking the idea of the bolts to secure the wings,👍
Lovely Jubbly quickie video, but stiil worth watching. Inner wings fasteners are a great tidy way to fix the outer wings on.
It's getting closer and closer . Well done Dan 👍
Looking good! It’s amazing to think how it started off and what you’ve done to it so far. Awesome job!
Thank you bud. I keep looking back through photo's. We have come so far!
Morning Dan the Golf is coming along leaps and bounds love it , the riv nuts was a great idea 💡 looking forward to the next one stay safe mate 👍 🍺
Perfect timing. Just sat down with a cuppa.
Brilliant again Dan it’s looking amazing I said month’s ago this would be the best Channel on TH-cam and look at you now well done 👍
Thank you bud! It is crazy how fast it is growing!
Great stuff Dan! This has become a regular tune in fix for me! Subscribed and bell well an truly rung! 👍🔔🔔🔔
Coming along nicely, Dan. Good call getting a body cut for that NS front!
Good job. Really helpful info for my AX GT resto project I have planned. I'm hoping to get away without the shell strengthening braces though as the shell isn't really in that bad of condition really. Look forward to the next one
Nice! I thoroughly recommend using rivnuts for the headlight and grill mounting holes - the factory clips are rubbish.
Yes I plan on fitting them there too!
Cracking job well done
Love it Dan! Keep it up 😊
What can i say Dan but fantastic I really enjoy your channel well done mate
Sat down with a cuppa tea and watched this and its coming along nicely. It will be in that paint booth before you know it 👍🏽
Good job man!
Nice!
Dan battery tray needs additional bracket for air box mounts. Don’t forget to take it off the old tray matey! 👍👊
Cheers bud. Will dig the old one out and find them.
Cracking progress, well done! Love the rivnut idea. I’ve the same fittings on my mk2 and always hated them. Often the hole gets opened up too much from frequent front end changes! 👍
I have used some nutserts to add some passenger loop handle into the factory holes.
Awesome dude 👍
Cracking mate
Great stuff again buddy, good luck on the 100k 👌🏻
Cheers bud.
Now the wings are sitting a little higher on those rivnuts, do the swage lines/rubbing strips still line up from wing to door?
That inner wing repair looked excellent. Great video again.
The inner mountin of the wing can be bent slightly to compensate. All lines up as it should do.
Really hope you hit that 100k mate, that’d be amazing 👍
So do I bud! I want that plaque on my wall!
Funnily enough, I used the nutserts yesterday to fit the external heater bracket to my T5 :)
Very useful fixings.
nice one, ive just been doing mine. almost the same. took a couple of hours to the get the front panel off. ive lined up and spotwelded one side on , just need another day of sun and it'll be done.
Awesome bud! So satisfying!

Thank you so much bud!
It would be a good idea to add a small weld to those nut inserts, otherwise they will eventually spin and the bolt won't undo
i would have stuck with ragbolts..
Exactly what i was going to suggest. They are great till a bolt seizes in a little and picks up on the rivnut.
@@davog1946 you have obviously had to remove one before lol. i know the pain!
Christ don’t, end up resorting to aggressive measures!

Cheers bud. Yes I need to. I alway's forget to film it!!!
Looking good. So Dan how much more metal work is there left before starting to prep for paint? Cheers, Kris.
Cheers bud. Not too much I don't think. Just money now that will slow it down.
Remind me, why did you cover the wipers holes? Keep up the great work mate!!
I had to as the replacement scuttle was LHD. I need to drill holes for RHD wipers.
Only just got onto your videos Dan, great content! I’m a caddy guy which is how I found you. What’s your background? Is this your job or a hobby?
Thank you bud. This is now my full time job although I don't actually earn much!
I find if you can get good tin off another car, it fits up so much better than repunched stuff. As much as it's annoying how much prep a cut piece takes, the fit up is not even close.
Definitely.
Great video and really helpful!! Just started a restoration on my own MK1 gti and looking for a pair of front wings and a bonnet ,guessing those are from heritage and non genuine? Struggling to find decent genuine ones
Awesome bud! Yes these are from Heritage. Drivers wing and bonnet are aftermarket but passenger wing is genuine.
@@DanChambersDAC brilliant thankyou fitment look decent aswell!
Are we taking bets when 100K happens? I'm thinking July.
Can you imagine!!!!
I hope you're putting a Golf R engine in the Caddy?
Not this one bud.
@@DanChambersDAC Gutted! Would be an insane build.
👍👍👍👍
Dude! Where is the Golf?! Did you give up on it?
Hello 👍👍👍👍👋👋🇩🇪 Kai✌️
I want to know who’s doing the thumbs down. Surely an accident. This series is brilliant.
Some nobhead, who doesn’t appreciate what Dan is doing. Same sort of people who probably have nothing kind to say to anyone.
Probably one of the people that have blocked me on Instagram! Unfortunately these day's some people don't like to see others succeed.
Loving the work so far mate.. Will stick a post out on my Instagram account hopefully help you gain a few subscribers etc. Keep up the good work 💪
Bad idea whit those nuts. The bolt might rust or the treads will collect mud. Taking them down will end in disaster.
Cheers bud, All fixing will be greased, Inner arches will be stone chipped and the car will not be driven in the wet.
go pro battery letting you down quite a lot..
