15.09 mins in for about 30sec your face says it all on how buzzing you are with your progress so far mate. Really enjoying your progress mate and look forward to the next vid 👍🏽
Smart work on the scuttle, I can imagine how many times the doors/bonnet/wings were on and off plus a good amount of pondering. It’s absolutely clear you have moved up several gears in skills as well as confidence Dan. Huge respect ✊ ✅✅
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment Andrew. Soooooo many times! Thank you for saying so! I feel much more confident but still trying to not miss anything!
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment Bud. I can't wait to see it finished either bud! Don't worry I have a head full of ideas to do after this one!
Another great Sunday morning video Dan , always getting closer , your rubbing your hands alot , get a decent heater , keeping warm is key ,so you can do your magic. Well done , cheers Andy
Looking superb Dan, the LHD wiper holes are a pain but I’m sure you’ll have a plan to recreate those correctly. It’s already very clear that the shell is getting back its stiffness and also the renewed enthusiasm in your voice! - good to see and hear. Well done buddy stay safe and warm now...👍🇬🇧
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment Phil. Yeah they are but that is the beauty of metal! Just weld it up. Coming from a joinery background metal is so much easier!!!! It certainly is. Hopefully get the other side back together next week. Found a heater but it doesn't work 🤣 Rubbing my hands seems to be working!
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment Michael. I want to show the real us and downs of restoring a car and not just an hour long show from sitting in a barn to going across the auction block!
Another great vid Dan, a really honest reflection on how challenging these projects are.. really pleased to wake and watch this with a coffee, a Sunday treat !
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment Mark. That is exactly what I want to show! Not just all the nicey nicey times. A full resto is a lot of hard work!
Thank you so so much for watching and for the comment Darren. Each comment helps so so much within TH-cams algorithm and I massively massively appreciate your support!
Nice progress, good luck this week with the other side, will be interesting to see how much quicker it will be. At the moment I have got the rear right tub out of my shell, I got one of the heritage tubs which is off a SA golf. I wasn’t happy with it as it is different internally, you will know it’s non standard in the boot, but the main reason I didn’t use it was that the top of the suspension turret on it sat 15mm lower than the original tub. So i am currently butchering bits off the new tub to repair the old one which was badly gone in several areas.
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment Phil. Glad you are enjoying it! Oh I didn't realise they were different! I was trying to source a bodycut but really can't afford one so I will have to just try and make the repair myself.
Well in Dan another job done... You will love driving it.... Love driving my mk2 gti sorn at moment for winter..... Look forward to your nx video... Keep it up 👌
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment Carl. Glad you enjoyed it. I can't wait for my first drive in it! Wouldn't mind a Mk2 project at some point myself!
Great to see you so pumped up Dan especially compared to a few weeks ago. On the scuttle, Do you have to move the humps for the wiper mounts rather than just drill fresh holes?
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment Matt. I felt so much more confident and am now on a run to just want the welding done. I have enjoyed learning it all but really want it done now! No the humps stay where they are, RHD only have holes drilled into the scuttle panel.
I need to get those rear inside wheel panels or parts of them to fit 3 point seat belts in the rear. Sadly my Rabbit didn't have premade mounting holes in that position but had them everywhere else.
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment Jonathan. I have been informed that no one makes them anymore. Tried a few places but can't get them. You may have to try and get a body cut.
you will love driving the Golf Dan, it's the most fun I ever had in a motor - even slightly better than the Pug 1.9 GTi in my opinion. Needless to say that although you have my full support and admiration for your project I'm also massively jealous. Have you thought about a colour yet? Can I suggest Alpine white?
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment Bud. I can't wait to drive it! Thank you for the support. Yes, The car will be going back to it's original Mars Red.
Hey what kind of engine do plan to run in it? I've seen spa turbo cylinder heads discounted on ebay. It would be sick with a high compression cammed naturally aspirated 2L 8v and period correct weber dcoes
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment Bud. I am running the original standard 8v Dx engine in it's standard form. Want the car to be as original as I can get it.
It’s good to see all the bits going back on. You’ll have a complete shell again in no time! Let me know if you need any measurements or pictures of the scuttle panel for the wiper holes.
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment Alex. Isn't it just! Makes me feel like I am getting somewhere! Thank you for the offer bud. I will take you up on that! You on Instagram?
Had my scuttle replace 2 years back by a ‘proffesional’ and it was an awful job ... corners werent attached & middle dips - youve done a sterling job there .
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment Bud, Had quite a few comments saying that people have had work done by 'Professionals' and it has been terrible. Hopefully this turns out OK!
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment Bud. The place I learnt at is called The Machine Shop in Hinckley. Google that and it should bring them up. they are also on Instagram as The_Machine_Shop_LTD Glad you are enjoying it bud.
I’ve never driven one either... but I daily drive a MK2 Golf 20vT.... is there much difference between day to day driving of the two cars? Hoping to have my MK1 Golf G40 on the road summer 2021. Brilliant content as always Dan 😊
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment Bud. Yeah time frames do put a lot of pressure on but I think I needed a little push to just get on. I spend so much time looking and not enough time doing. So the aim for the moment is a pretty stock car with maybe a twist on the interior. Different seats with a slightly different but in keeping trim. None of that is happening until I earn some money to pay for it though!
🤣 Still the original car though. Anything can be saved if you want to. Have you seen the state some Split's have been found in and restored? Thank you for watching and for the comment Bud
Great work as ever Dan. I have bought some Lechlar epoxy primer and using a cheap gun and compressor am epoxying all internal panels to stop the rot in the future, just an idea
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment John. I did consider this but decided against it. I am planning on buying a wax gun with the 360 degree nozzle and using it to primer everything first then go back with Wax in the cavities too.

Nicely framed closing shot. Shoulders and elbows perfectly aligned with the “A” pillar. The devil is in the details

Another good video Dan, now the holes are plugged up maybe a single wiper conversion?
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment Bud, The car came with a single conversion. I want to go back to twin.
I also need to fix up my scuttle too.
