As an eldar player who also plays guard I fear a lot of other things more, but acknowledge your point. Which is why I have 6 autocannons in my guard list. Tau are not a fan of them either.
I really appreciate your frank and balanced approach to discussing units. I commend the heroic restraint you've demonstrated by not making hype fueled hot takes, I hope it pays off!
The old heavy weapon squad is still sold by GW as the Catachan Heavy Weapon Squad. Not only is it cheaper per box you can basically build 3xTripod and 3xBipod heavy weapons straight out of the box or 3xTripod, 3xMortars and 3xMissile if you kitbash the Missile as man-portable. Lastly, as a bonus you get cooler looking crew 😉
@@birb330 i preordered all stuff I wanted already. Unfortunately, it will delay at least a year here in Spain. I wish I could time skip cinematic straight to my army painted and assembled lol
So back last Spring I ran 3x platoon command squads with mortars, 6x 20 man platoon squads with 2x mortars each, 3x heavy weapons teams with mortars, and 3x3 scout sentinels. I think there were some Cadian castellans and other support but It was a crazy amount of dice that could reduce a few units with lethal hits.
I came up with my own custom color scheme I was going to cover in a video that was dark blue and gold. If I get extra models, I'd be happy to paint them differently and do a Cadian style.
I'll be working on mine as harkoni Warhawks. The sheer volume of Cadians and krieg kits vs the other regiments and then they gave me a perfect set for Harkoni.
I think so. Each offers a slightly different function and role that I'd worth consideration. I usually put Heavy weapons teams in Infantry and Platoon Command Squads to keep them safe where HWS are more vulnerable but require less work to buff than multiple squads.
The Las small arms is clearly meant to represent a lasgun or lascarbine. Being pistol and short range just ensures, that it's being fired instead of the heavy weapons and as a defensive option.
There's a free stl file floating out there that has the files needed to build out every weapon from a single new heavy weapons squad kit. Serviceable with fdm, better from resin
Mortar teams shouldn't have actual Mortars. They should be a radio operator and a sniper or guy with binoculars. Never add the Mortars. Save those for a Diorama.
My go to lately has been Huge Miniatures tufts. I usually get the ones that are kind of like dried grass or have small amounts of reds and greens mixed in. Can't remember the exact name off the top of my head.
I think orders are just to expensive for these guys, and if your not taking mortars, you need to run them in pairs so that the firepower is threatening, and that after a small breeze some are left alive to shoot back
I've had some luck with an ursala creed proxy (old inquisitor) ordering 2 mortar squads and passing out FOF for 1 less cp. Not the best thing ever, but they can all have good concealment and screen backfield.
They are two separate armies. There is interesting lore behind why too, mostly to prevent any one army from having all the tools needed to break away and wage war against the Imperium. Even the Guard is divided into rolls: infantry, artillery, tanks, etc. So that no one company /batallion / regiment can break away.
That's also why the Imperial navy, aeronitica (starfighters), and a bunch of other groups are separated. It makes betrayal much harder, but also causes its own share of problems.
I'm enjoying it. I like being able to fit them into terrain better, to include all of the trenches and fortifications I own. It makes it easier to screen them too.
Autocannons for salty, delicious eldar tears.

You mean the "THE MOST MUST TAKE AMAZING UNIT OF ALL TIME" videos? lol yeah, that just isn't me.

Its much expensive, if you for Combat Patrol issues. Only 11 euros for 3 heavy weapons. Thats cheaper than going 3d or recasters.
@@guillercuasticohas the imperial guard combat patrol magazine released yet?

I 100% agree this unit is so classic and awesome! I hope they get some love in the new codex.
They need to make it so you can take either 3 6 or 9 teams for 1 choice.
I need to be able to use all 30 of my dam heavy weapon teams
If I run HWS I tend to run a couple of 3* lascannons as cheap throw away units to deter enemy armour / monsters.

Max mortars is an interesting tactic! Btw, you do know that guard indirect does not have lethal hits anymore, right? Just wanted to check lol
@@aaronliiva824 yes that was my spring list.
Hello m8! Will you paint tempestus aquilons in cadia style? Nobody did it so far and Im really interested :)

Is it worth having a discussion about the HWS compared to incorporating the same set of weapons into an infantry squad + PCS?

I will always take mortars for heavy weapons squad then I take autocannons in my infantry squads

Any idea where I can find these? So I can avoid them, of course.

Im new to Warhammer , I have a question, why doesn't Astra militarism have a space marine unit ?

50mm basing is far too small and derpy.

@CadianSergeantSteel the crew don't tend to fit on properly now, & it greatly limits conversion potential.
A strange decision by GW.
It makes it so much easier to hide behind cover though
Do you have a discord
I get that question a lot. Not yet. Seems like it would be a lot of manage, honestly, so I haven't tried it yet.
