I painted my tank with spray cans and then bought a 2k clear coat in a can and it works great, the 2k level of clear coat is chemical resistant.. and the can had a fan tip so it sprayed really evenly! It cost like $25 for one can though, but that’s all you need!
I love you "No give up attitude" even if it does take 70 hours of work. Funny story; when I was a poor teen... I bought a cheap old Yamaha RD350 air cooled. Cool bike and I liked it a lot !. Bondo was visible on the tank, and was coming lose. I wanted to paint it anyway. I chipped at the lose bondo only. I spread more on to build up the shape; then rasped and sanded it smooth. That bike had had a real tank slapper. supposed to be a five gallon tank. well it only held barely 3 gallons of fuel. The missing two was bondo !. Anyway; primed and sprayed it; bout factory decals from the dealer; applied them and voila !!. Ended up selling it to a used m/cycle shop, and made a small profit too :) Oh keep up the good work Goldguy !
I am no professional at painting but just wanted to share some tips I have learned. With small amounts of Bondo a clipboard works great for mixing instead of a cup. Makes it easier to spread. And try wet sanding next time your paint is rough.
It really doesn't matter what paint you use but the clear coat is what's important. Use a two part automotive clear coat. You can buy spray cans with a primer tab on the bottom to mix the hardener before spraying. It's not cheap "$26 a can" but that stuff dries rock hard and gas won't bother it at all.
Came out great, guy! My opinion, this tank will keep it clean. You should take a layer of clearcote, to protect the decals anyway..they looked great, and without a cote, you've probably see it become ripped out pretty soon. - can't wait for the followup!
Hi, thanks for uploading the video! I was waiting for it, the gas tank looks great I knew you were going to save it. Keep going with the project! Greetings from Costa Rica
You should have used the reducer it wouldn't had that orange peel. And when painting flat matte paints. You shoot 2 layers of paint... 1st layer always wet. And 2nd coat goes medium wet. And no more. The more layers you add the more gloss youll get. IMO that was a shitty paint job. And next time also try using scotch brite instead of steel wool. There is tons of videos on TH-cam where you can check and learn to paint with a paint gun
Nice work. I was waiting to see if you were going to pressure test the tank first to make sure you got all the pin-holes sealed up...before you painted. But oh well...I guess you'll find out with your first tank of gas. :) Looking forward to the next vid.
22:12 lol five out of five!
Ichiban Moto is literally the FilthyFrank of the motorcycling universe.
And I love it.
You have put pure heart and soul into that fuel tank.
Great video's - keep 'em coming.
Thank you man for vouching me!
I'm really proud i could help you!
It's amazing what persistence, hard work and Bondo can accomplish! I've saved some pretty sad gas tanks but yours topped them all. Good job 👌👍.
Thanks for the tips! I just used that paint stripper and within an hour, my tank went from worn 70's paint job to like new bare metal.
Looks good!! Can’t wait to see the end result of this bike!

Yes! 2k clear coat in a can is good stuff!!!
I would like to know how you restored the seat of the TS185.I have to restore the seat of my Indian moped.Cheers
Chip brushes work well to use with stripper and they don't deteriorate like that sponge brush. Hope that helps for your next project.
I give this content creator 11/10 Ichiban moto stickers.

Glad you coated the inside of the tank again, I was worried all the sanding would make more leaks!
The reducer ain't for warm weather... It's so that the paint wont shoot too thick out from your gun
I'd definitely clear coat the tank after the decal is applied.
I thought the scrambler build was my favorite. But this one’s already my new favorite build. Super excited for the next video
i watch all your video you do a great job im from romania i have a suzuki bandit 2001 and a suzuki dr350 1996 i like your videos
It’s 2019 and I’m watching u rebuild this bike and I’m like...damn I really wish I could do this with him😂 love the vids, keep up the good work!!

I think this is going to be your best motorcycle
Thanks, I think so too!
The pistol isn't the expensive part in painting professionally, the compressor is...
BudMike but it is if you dont paint offen.....

Great as always.
Too bad that the titles of the music aren´t listed. This are really well chosen.
Keep going.

Consistency at its most. 👌🏻 well done man
Wow, I would have left that tank for a goner - nice save!
Another great success. Coming along great 👍
Sweet decnals!
Hell yeah man good contact keep it going had my ass laughing all the way through it lmao
looks good my tank was damaged when i bought my ts 185 so i put a clear tank on it until i track down a tank
I lost it when he said "5 ichiban stickers" thats some mudslinging right there oml
Just use SprayMax. It's a 2 component clear coat that comes in a rattle can and it will protect your paint from gas. Excellent product.
nm, I see someone else suggested this earlier :)
I knew you would put a nice paint job on it like the cb750.

great hard work... ! beautiful
Aircraft Remover is some serious stuff, and it stings pretty good if/when it gets on your skin
Why not try an adhesive puller to pull the two big dents out so you use bondo just to float the finish?
Good job buddy!!!
Nice job
Hi, You shouldn't paint it with anti corrossion paint before bando ?
Looks like new!
wait a minute... did itchybumb moto approve this message?
Yes, he sent me the stickers(for free)!
Looks sick!
Hardner makes it shinier.
VERY NICE
happy new year goldguy
Happy New years to you too Mario!🎉🎉🎉
Sick!
Greetings from forest grove Oregon 👍🏼
How long does the POR 15 last in the tank before it starts to degrade?anyone know?Thank you
Not bad! What brand of polyester filler did you use?

Oh my god 🤣🤣🤣 wot a mess
Move the parts from this engine to that other spare engine you got cause it looks cleaner and better , or at least switch the sidecovers .
That is my plan!!
Great , can ‘ t wait to see it all come together.
He shoulda clear coated the primer on the tank it would have looked sick
Never having heard of Moldova, that is awfully american from you.
Hey gold guy . Do you think a honda 500 intersepter 1984 would make a good scrambler ? Thanks
Tom Hall you’d have to take just about everything off but if you have a vision of what you want it to look like I’m sure you can do it
@@dominicbowers6628 I agree with you
The American Way to do....

Yes the pressure test will be in the next episode. I can only do so much in one video.
50% Por 15 40% Bondo 10% metal
What happened to your paint booth in the garage? lol.
Its too cold in there for paint during the winter lol
what ichiban? i was surprised, very funny
18:21 Just to let you know...
The Japanese are busy with work.
I own a motorcycle「ts185」.
I want long holidays.
Maybe you could restore them and sell them to people to earn money. Or you could start your own bike restoration business!
Don’t wax it if your gonna clear coat it . Actually just clear coat it before you spill gas all over it . Lol 😱😳🤣
Is it 1975 or 1977?
just buy a usd media blaster
Your paint came out bumpy because all primers are not equal..should buy primer that's made by the same company!
I’m your cousin
