The first method she said was to use alcohol. If someone isn't smart enough to use 80 proof If they don't have alcohol wipes then idk how they'd comprehend any DIY punk clothes lol
To make a design like you did with the angel you can use the technique old sign makers used. Draw the design on paper. Use a tracing wheel (used for tracing patterns in sewing). The smaller wheels are best. (Easiest to make curves and provides the closest holes for details. This creates the pattern, which is essentially many holes. Attach the pattern to wherever you want to paint the design. Put chalk powder in an old sock. (You can also use the red or blue chalk used in making plumb lines). "Pounce" the sock on the pattern. The powder comes out finely through the sock and makes a dot for every hole. Remove the pattern and your design is on your substrate. Thanks for the video. Nothing substitutes for the creativity of an artistic mind.
I use testors model car paint. It works great . All you need is paint thinner for cleaning brushes . It don't peal off but after a long time like over a year of constant wearing it might fade a little , but out of all the jackets I've painted on no one has ever complained.
Hi Daria hope u are well. Could you please tell me the varnish product you used/use as I cannot quite make out what brand it is on your video. Thank you 👍🏽
@@Dariacreative oh thanks for the reply✌️ I’ve tried angelus finisher satin and matte and I’ve tried everything but it drys tacky no matter what 😕 I’ve tried a thin layer and heat gun and dried for an hour and still tacky 😕 I painted a handbag and it was tacky still after 3months.
@@LouMaccz Why does it feel tacky when completely dry? Please make sure that your layers are fully dry between layers. If not, the tackiness may occur if the layers have not cured. The tacky feel should go away over time. On FAUX leather surfaces, it tends to stay longer. We recommend a very light sanding with a 1000+ grit. This will not compromise the texture or paint on your project ( it's an information from their website)
I watched your video AFTER spray painting on a leatherjacket with a stencil and wondering why the paint did not really stick on when I rub it XD Is degreasing the leather optional or a must? Cuz I would just try now to fix it with lestherfinish.
You know if you mix paints together (one color of one paint+other color of other brand ) and then apply this mix on fabric there shouldn't be any problem. But if you apply one layer of one brand, and then other layer of other brand, if paints didn't connect with each other paint may peel off. The best way is to test paints on some piece of fabric . By the way Arteza fabric paints can be used on leather , at least that is what they say in the description of their paints:)
Simple acrylics may not work. They may peel off or crack. Even not all fabric paints will work. Pebeo which I use is suitable for leather . But the best for leather of course is Angelus leather paint. Simple varnish will make your artwork sticky. Once I used simple varnish and then dust was sticking to the artwork and it was not wearable...
@@Dariacreative By the way, how do I check if the jacket has this additional layer? I tried finding the information at the producers site, but there's none
@@Pariahhq well I guess deglazer is for the glazed leather. When leather is shiny and you can not only see it but feel it by touching. So to remove this glaze coat there is a deglazer. Is there any other additional layers which can be applied on leather- I don't know. Most of faux leather jackets on the market don't have any additional layers
@@Dariacreative Oh, alright! I mean,I know that it is leather, but I wasn't sure if it has that coating. Thanks for your advice! I'll use it in my craft :))
Very 80’s. I love it!! I have a question about denim jackets. Would it be easier to use an embroidery hoop to put the jacket in and then paint? Or would it warp the image when I took it out? My thinking is that it would keep the fabric taut, thus smoother, on which to work.
I think an embroidery hoop would be to weak to get the closure shut--unless you're painting on LAMB leather--seriously, who came up with that! Lamb's leather may be very smooth and supple....but it's SO thin and fragile. For that matter, I think an embroidery hoop would just tear lamb's leather. It's so much easier if you make a few simple "shirt boards", the same as you would use for airbrushing (or hand painting) t-shirts. All you need is three or four, made from light plywood. Then you put your leather jacket on this board the same exact way, and then simple clamps for keeping the leather tight and smooth to work on. And speaking of leather, I agree with you 100%, Daria. Leather is a different surface to paint....I've found that many automotive custom painting tricks and techniques work well on leather, like pin striping, marbleizing, use of pearl pigments--like color shifting pearls. Leather is my favorite surface to work on. Thanks for posting this vid, good info!
We bleached the back of denim jackets and painted graffiti back in HS in the 80s, we would button them up and place a piece of plywood inside to keep it tight.
Both an alcohol degreaser and this acrylic paint are pretty quick to dry, I'd say no more than 10 mins (or less) on the alcohol and practically/tangibly, the paint will be dry enough in 15 mins or less to go in with coat 2. More if it's a super thick layer. BACK OF THE ANGELUS BOTTLE directs to apply multiple this layers and that paint will be fully cured and flexible @ 48 hours.
Yes I did :) but you know there are so many self taught talented artists out there. That I am not even sure that art school is necessary :) you can learn drawing just by practicing and watching some helpful videos on TH-cam
