  • In this video, I talk briefly about my love for the Canon EFM system and my EOS M50 camera in particular.
    You can still buy these cameras new (Amazon Affiliate Link) - amzn.to/3XCeetM
    Is this camera and camera system worthwhile buying or keeping in 2024? That is the burning question that I hope to answer and well to put it simply the answer is yes in my humble opinion.

      @@fpsFAMOUS my idea is to get 55-200 and have fun! with it. Stock lens also good.

    So good, I bought three. Bought one during lockdown. Sold it to my daughter and bought myself a replacement. Bought another because I needed two to stream a wedding. Sold one to fund a M6 Mark II. Sold the other to get an M10. Now using the M10 when I want a camera I can stuff in a pocket and the M6 II when I doing more deliberate photography.

    Have this with the 22mm and the kit lens. I bought a Nikon and Canon EF converter and now I can add any lens I want. Great camera even today. Great video Tim!

    In the meantime, I have also bought a Conon R6, but I would never give away my great, handy Canon M50. Especially with the Canon EF-M 22mm f/2 and EF-M 32mm f/1.4 lenses, you have two great lenses for everyday use that take great photos!

      Nice - I’m tempted by another prime. 32 would be a nice focal length I think.

    Still deep into the EOS M System and I love it. Using the M50 and the M3 (bad autofocus, agreed but even more compact) and several native EOS M lenses combined with EF lenses (canon adapter and viltrox speed booster). It's a real good setup, for me portability and light weight is important.
    Thanks for the Video, Tim. Interested in the other native lenses you would recommend.

      If you use the really good third party manual focus lenses (Samyang 10mm, Brighten Star 35mm, Kamlan 50mm, etc.), who cares about auto focus quality?

    Oh yes! My main camera. With the 18 x 150 lens as the one that stays on it 90% of the time. Stays in my car and used often when roaming about . Next are my 2 G16's. The 3 ti sits on a shelf unused for the last 3 years at least.

      I have a second hand M50 plus a few lenses and the one thing I would recommend is a metal cage (mine is from Smallrig) as it does protect the camera.
      I've liked and subscribed so please post whatever you wish about your experiences with the M50

    I own one. Maybe get a second one in the future (mark II) just as a backup. I have a lot of adapters for it that allows me to use my older EF lenses as well as Pentax lenses, Minolta, etc. Its small but with an added grip/cage its actually pretty nice.

    I upgraded to the R series full frame, and in selling most my APS-C lenses, I can't help but keep the M50 & 22mm f/2 as an everyday pocket-carry. I was going to buy a panasonic, a sigma, a sony as a secondary compact, but turns out my M50 and its pancake are already hard to beat

    • @TakenByTim

    M50 was my first camera, and is still my only camera. Been loving it, especially with a lens adapter so I can use essentially any lens I want.
    Two things I don't like about it is the somewhat lacking low light performance and the absolute lack of weather proofing.
    I am considering getting a Sony A7 for better low light and auto-focus these days though, but not rushing it.
    That said, it is still a fantastic camera for the price, and I do not regret getting one and definitely recommend it for someone who wants a cheap but good camera.

    • @TakenByTim
      @TakenByTim  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Solid choice if you were to change.
      I feel like I should add a Sony or probably more practically change for a Sony at some point. I’ve recently taken a small dive into Micro Four Thirds and now have a few cheap LUMIX

    • @jkteddy77
      @jkteddy77 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      R6 mkii and R8 still have quite good low light performance. And full frame EF lenses you've adapted will carry forward. It's what I've done, and I'm planning on shooting astro and the aurora with my R8. Jumping brands is expensive if you have to take a loss reselling lenses that work for you now.

    • @charliegolf2730
      @charliegolf2730 16 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@jkteddy77 Since I only have one FF EF lens, jumping ship to Sony is probably what I'll end up doing. The M50 has served me well, and I might end up keeping it as a backup

    I bought in before the EF-M platform was killed, but the tea leaves were floating that way. They take a lot better pictures than I can do, and if you count M42, vintage adaptables, EF, and manual EF-M third party lenses, there are better lenses for it as any platform. And I’ve spent less for my whole bag of cameras and lenses as one “pro” R body. (Was on Iona and Mull in August, saw a dad and son with two full body Canons and lenses the size of mortars. I dare say my pictures are competitive in quality to theirs, even if I was shooting a 22mm f2 with broken focus gearing….)
    The only thing I hate is that the newest third party lenses aren’t getting added to the platform.

      I dropped my M50 (mostly landed on the cage, but hit the lens too) and the gears broke out of the 22mm f2 a few days later. There are a couple of really good third party 25mm manual focus Ef-m lenses. I still ordered a new 22mm f2 the next day.

  • @yashik
    @yashik 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I still have it and use it mainly because i have almost all ef-m lenses so i'm equiped for every ocasion, quality is still more then enough and i would rather have great 1080p video than avarage 4k plus i don't like to work with big files of 4k so for y2b it's best even when it's older... only bad thing is they could update firmware with new features like eye detection but clearly they won't do it because canon is greedy they don't want consumers to have it on budged and that's why i'm fine to sticking with what i have

      Really depends on what your type photography is, there are many other videos up there with a good round up of lenses such as…. th-cam.com/video/2J4C_RDEg5Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=FZMddG-liQ7En5EP

      There are some EF-M zoom lenses, but I’ve had great fortune with converting EF lenses or M42 lenses with the camera, which has the secondary advantage that they can also be adapted to another platform later.

      Difficult question and hard for me to answer as I don’t have the Sony. I’d say the Sony is more of a video camera. The Canon better for photography…. Just a quick uneducated opinion as I don’t have the Sony. And I only have the first release of the M50 too, this got updated.
      I will say that I do plan on getting a Sony this year.

      Sony ZV E10 is better but lacks the second hand market for cheap lenses. If your wallet can stand it and you're happy paying for new lenses get the ZV E10.

I have the 18-300 tamron wich is an all around lens. I also like that It can record 120 fps in full HD, and for the price that the camera is right now is totally worth it.
