What I love about these covers she does on her show is that she literally gets a request from her audience qnd picks one. She then learns it and comes up with these on the fly. I think she said she gets it all together in an hour or two. It's freaking phenomenal!
She started doing the 'one cover per show' thing while touring in 2007 or 2008 for My December. Eventually, she essentially took a process that she and her band had mastered for well over a decade and ported it to her tv show doing one per as Kellyoke. On tour, she would get so many cover requests that she finally made the call to limit it to one per concert. However, the growing pool of requests was carried over each time. She's demonstrably the most versatile singer of this, and possibly any, generation. She possesses native fluency in every form of singing. It's uncanny af. But honestly for me, it's primarily her tone that makes her timeless. And regardless of context, her singing 'skill-set' is all of the above. There's nothing she can't do vocally. Ergo it's simple math from there...her skill set + her tone = GOAT. But that tone yo...gives me an involuntary visceral response. On every level, psychologically and physiologically...that tone just hits different.
