A variant of the Hemingway trick is "Park your car at a slope". In the evening, make sure that the next task in the morning is easy, so that you can effortlessly slide back into work, just as a car parked on a slope starts rolling when you loosen the hand-brake. I found this very helpful when I had to organize my work without any incentive from the outside during my PhD.
Winning combination is to give your viewers the thing they want to see. Being a TH-camr is business, and business owners give people products/services that people need in their life. It's practically the same. And when the growth becomes real, you can consider hiring people to help you run your channel more efficiently. The most difficult part is starting and growing of course, but consistency and hard work (with a little bit of Famester to help) will always pay off at the end. Good luck to everyone, I really hope you are all going to succeed one day.
*Key takeaways from the video:* The video is about improving focus. It emphasizes that the ability to focus is a skill that can be learned. The video outlines five actionable tips to improve focus: 1. *Make a ready to resume plan:* When you need to switch between tasks, take a moment to create a plan for resuming the first task. This will help you to minimize attention residue, the lingering effects of the first task on your ability to focus on the second task. An example of creating a ready to resume plan is stopping in the middle of a sentence when writing. 2. *Listen to 40Hz binaural beats:* Binaural beats are auditory illusions created by playing two slightly different frequencies into each ear. Some research suggests that listening to 40Hz binaural beats can improve focus. 3. *Declutter your workspace:* Physical and digital clutter can be distracting and make it difficult to focus. The video suggests setting aside 10 minutes to declutter your workspace before starting a focused work session. 4. *Use the 90/20 rule:* The 90/20 rule suggests that we should work in 90-minute intervals followed by 15-30 minute breaks. This is because our brains tend to operate in 90-minute cycles, with alertness declining after 90 minutes of focused work. 5. *Batch similar tasks together:* Color-coding your calendar to group similar tasks together can help you to improve focus by minimizing context switching. Context switching is the mental effort required to switch between different tasks.
I've read the introduction and first chapter of the book. First of all. Reading the introduction itself felt soo good. It was very inspiring and i felt even more excited to read the full book once I read the introduction. The first chapter was amazing and applying the lessons only from the first chapter can make a big difference. I'll keep on commenting the more I read this book. Cause it will make it a bit more fun (PLAY).
I love you, ali, i'm Abdel Rahman, your follower from Egypt, I have 16 and I learned a lot from you and started making content on TikTok from the information I learned from you , and I see that I resemble you in many things such as the way of thinking, the activities I do, the way I see my future and a lot, I love, man💖❤
ali never misses......whenever the productivity community needs him the most, he is there for you.... Like really, I was struggling with motivation and focus and shazam.....ali uploads a new vid.....thanks ali for the unmatchable and stupendous timing.....keep uploading more....😊😊👍👍..
Tip 5 is huge! Took me a while to realize that is far superior to treating different tasks as "breaks" from other types of tasks - just derails. Batching is the way to go
A thing I learned early on thanks to my search for a system for myself to help cope with my inability to properly filter out stimuli around me, I learned it is easier for me to focus on something that I feel more pull towards. For example, I needed to work on my history course final paper, but I felt a larger pull to working on a creative endeavor at the time. By working on the latter first, I found it easier to shift to doing the paper after when I lost the pull or “motivation” to work on the original project. In the past when I did the opposite, I struggled to even work on the paper as well as it took twice as long to work on the assignment as it should have realistically.
When I write I always finish the scene/paragraph but I end with doing an update on what I've done, how I feel about what I've done and what I aim to do next. It helps so much. I never considered doing this for academics
Ali your videos are really great. I am currently in college. I had a great difficulty studying and focusing for long period of time. Thanks, to your videos. It's been a good progress. 😊
Hi Ali, My main issue with all those tips about organizing the calendar, is that it takes time to organize it. So for most of the people that are not well organized with their calendar, it’s kind of overwhelming. I’d love to hear your opinion about getting the hang of organizing it.
You really helped out of my unorganized clutered life and study. Read your book, one of the most amazing book about productivity i ever read. Hates off to you man 🎉😊
Hey! I have your book and I am currently reading it. I also watch a lot of your videos and have started using some of your strategies. I am a ER Nurse and worked as a Paramedic on an ambulance before that. My schedule isnt always consistent. I work three 12 hour shifts a week...either 11am-11pm or 3pm-3am...it varies. Would you be able to make a video with tip for people working 12 hour shifts...especially mid-shifts and night shifts...I guess on how to stay productive and not worn down so much? I am working on implementing different things but I still havent found an optimal routine. Thank you so much for all of your advice!
*_All the issues you named resonated with me , I was thinking that my productivity efficiency wasn't good enough but now that you named the solutions I know where I should put my efforts , bless you Ali 🙏_* *_I love Ratchet And Clank , the adventures of my favorite Lombax are one of my favorite sagas 🔥_*
Great ideas! I use the party idea when working on my admin tasks and the party mindset to get myself to sit down and work. I start my workday by quoting a song from, I believe, The Beastie Boys, “The Party Starts Now!” I focus best with hard rock music. Fortunately, I work from home and have the freedom to do what works best for me. Thank you for your outstanding videos. I purchased your book and I am looking forward to reading it.
I didn’t know the name of the Ready-To-Resume focusing productive activity. However, I have been using it on my copywriting job - without knowing anything about it. I will be working and then my hand will get tired of hand writing those copies. So I’ll take breaks. And after some moments of break, I would then ask myself some questions like “what should I do next? And how much should I complete the work? (Because there’s a lot of job which I can’t do in a day so…). But I have to say this: it’s working well. Pretty well. Now that you’ve shared them with your audience, I’m super happy about the people’s enthusiasm and result stories that they’ll share with you in the comment section!🎉❤ Edited version. I freaking loved those scientific proof that you’ve shared in this video. I don’t know whether you’ve been sharing them on your recent videos because you know I’m now working a lot more than I used to and didn’t have the time to check your videos. Anyways, kudos for that brother!
Haha, best is to avoid consuming TH-cam on the computer, I strictly listen to it on the phone while on the move somewhere 😊 Keep it up! 🔥🎯 Editing first thing in the morning fasted while walking on my treadmill is my favorite hack to progress both with content and fitness 💪🎥
Can you please Ali make a video showing what is the most websites you use the most for ( productivity _ self learning _ for research for a new something or for content creation or your life) ❤❤ thanks Ali ❤❤❤
I'm a writer but I haven't been able to make the Hemingway method work for me. Stopping in the middle just means my brain is fretting all the time about picking back up. My version of this is called What's next? I leave myself a note telling me what I'm going to do or where I left off so that I can get back to work quickly. It works really well.
Interesting take on Point #2 which is the type of music that you listen to! I try to listen to a constant noise to keep my focus in check, and nothing loud or orchestra spams with instruments blaring in the background. To write though, I need silence which lets me tap into my higher brain functions to write some words like what I am doing now.
Dear Ali, I'm a big admirer and follower of your work. I've been following you for a long time and have a great deal of respect for your achievements. I'm passionate about video editing and would love to start my own online video editing business. However, due to limited resources, I haven't been able to get started yet. I currently lack access to a smartphone or laptop, which are essential tools for this field. I understand this is a big request, but I would be incredibly grateful if you could consider helping me acquire a laptop. Having this equipment would allow me to pursue my passion for video editing and finally launch my business. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Ok I just made it thru the whole video... I'm laughing 😂so hard I'm crying... I have attention😵💫 residue oozing out of my ears, my calendar IS color coded but it looks the kaleidoscope that you said is NOT how it should🤣🤣 be... and that "MESSY desk" you showed as an example? That looks like a dream to me (compared to mine) 😜I need like a 30 minute de-clutter! (maybe 2 or 3 times) I have lots of work to do, but 30 days from now I will be 🎉celebrating these positive changes...so thank you🤩 so much!!! You rock!🎉
I can attest to the fact that the blocking of uninterrupted work works perfectly for me however I am a middle manager and I am getting bombarded with dozens of tasks or questions or requests all day and for most of them I cannot just “answer later”. It kills me because I hate interruptions
Rectly started reading the book mate. I loved the intro it is full of stuff I believe in too. Also regarding this video I'm the guy who has 100 tabs on even though my pc cannot handle it at max atm. And I might need to organise a bit better my office at some point. Thanks for the tips. 🔥🔥
And still nothing seems to work for me because of my adhd :( It always works in the first run but every system fails me after a small amount of time. The only thing that worked for me the best (but still not perfectly) is multitasking. I would really love to see a video how to be still efficient with multitasking! ❤ You might not be neurodiverse but as somone who has studied medicine might understand it somehow how its like for our brains 😅
Hey Ali! just wanted to thank you for inspiring me to create my own TH-cam Channel. I'm in the process of creating my first 50 crappy videos and guess what I'm already having 100+ subs. Thank you again.
The “ready to resume plan” seems almost counterintuitive toward the idea of attention residue. Feel I’d be thinking about the end of the sentence or task more, if left hanging. Kinda like how a song gets stuck in your head if you didn’t hear it all the way through until the end.

I was about to read a book... but now Im watching this... its a loop!
When I write I always finish the scene/paragraph but I end with doing an update on what I've done, how I feel about what I've done and what I aim to do next. It helps so much. I never considered doing this for academics
This literally happened to me this week. Using TH-cam to escape my guilt. It didn’t help. Great video ❤🙌
I get so much value from your videos, thanks so much my Rabbi
I like how sticking to one task at a time is key. Many of us try to do too much and multitask, ending up not finishing anything
I am watching this in middle of my focus session, don't know how I ended up here. But Its Okay, i will complete this & go back with the knowledge.
I’d get a lot done with the 40. I felt a spike in mental energy when I heard it. The 16 made me feel like I wanted to fall asleep.
I have trying working on my focusing problem..and with your help I am getting there.. 😂 I really appreciate your work to my academic journey 🇿🇲
*Yes. Happy as always when the notif came. Thank you Ali for sharing about 5 small changes to supercharge our focus. Keep up! 🍁🌿*
Thank you for sharing how to focus Ali this will really go a long way
Thank you for everything. You've saved me from having to read all of the self-help books, and instead focus on the implementation.

Clutter and Procrastination are also related to ADD/ADHD. Focus is also a struggle for adults with ADD/ADHD.
Oh my god... The starting scenario is exactly me... Ali Abdaal, how did you get the sneak peak into my life??????? 🤯
I'm a writer but I haven't been able to make the Hemingway method work for me. Stopping in the middle just means my brain is fretting all the time about picking back up. My version of this is called What's next? I leave myself a note telling me what I'm going to do or where I left off so that I can get back to work quickly. It works really well.
that's exactly why Hemingway does that, to never run out of things to write. Read his " A moveable feast" book
Interesting take on Point #2 which is the type of music that you listen to! I try to listen to a constant noise to keep my focus in check, and nothing loud or orchestra spams with instruments blaring in the background.

Please make a video deep diving on the fun admin party! I feel like my life gets overrun by these tasks
the best change i made to help me focus is to put away my phone, and to do the hardest thing first in the morning
I can attest to the fact that the blocking of uninterrupted work works perfectly for me however I am a middle manager and I am getting bombarded with dozens of tasks or questions or requests all day and for most of them I cannot just “answer later”. It kills me because I hate interruptions
Cal Newport mentions something about a Shutdown Ritual in his book and podcast, which I think is similar to the "Ready to Resume Tomorrow Plan".
great value, Ali. i have been realising the value of these tips lately. especially loved tip 1 and getting reminded of tip 2.
I feel so grateful to discover your channel 💯
The ready-to-resume plan sounds very good.
Going to implement it.
Kudos.

Hey Ali, don’t know if you are a practicing Muslim but could you please do a short or a video where you provide tips on how to stay productive while fasting! Thanks!

Thank you so much Ali to help us focus we are grateful ☺️✅and I hope to become wht i desire ❤️
I hope you put a summary of the video at the end ❤❤
Great video as usual, but I have a question.
What should I do in my breaks in order to not have attention residue towards my break and to work efficiently after it?
Thanks Bro! Your Videos Are Really Inspired Me And Keep Consistent Me On My Work.
New life goal: Write a paper that will be cited by Ali!
Ali being the absolute cutie, as always:)))❤ you giving a smile while listening to the 40 Hz freq. was one of the best visuals in this video:)))❤
music also helps me focus, thanks for other tips ali
Wow am early to your video. Such a huge help your videos are man for my life. Thanks and keep it going bro!
As always the content is amazing and thank you for that.
BUT… why didn’t the editor put the X logo instead of the Twitter one in the thumbnail?
Keep up the good work guys
Ali Abdal: Make sure you don't interrupt your work-flow and that will increase your focus
Ali Abdal - literally interrupting himself every 3 minutes to promote his skillshare, other youtube channels, newsletter and more.
I mean - I adore you, Ali - but perhaps in a video where you're promoting focus - you can give us all the information in a focused way, while then promoting all the things in a focused way as well?
said with love....
The ready to resume plan was also somewhat talked about in Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman tho I forgot which chapter it was
Thanks so much brother ❤❤❤
The SENDHELP tabs are hilarious 😂
I needed this video. ❤ Love these videos
I wonder how do you find all these science based evidence and papers?
Thanks Ali! Love your stuff. Big inspiration for us.
i would love to hear you and Andrew Huberman talk about productivity/the brain
The collab the world needed but we don't deserve. Andrew Huberman is even more into the productivity space than even Ali is which is crazy!
Hi Ali!
Good to see you ☺
Nice to see you back 🎭
gotta try the 90-20 rule! thanks
Been waiting for this video the whole week 😂
Wow good to know I'm not the only who turns to scrolling when I get overwhelmed by messages.
Hello Ali Bhai ❤
I have so much attention 😵💫residue. It's good to finally have a word for what it is🤣🤣🤣 Thank you🤩
I literally started watching this video, and then I saw that while I was watching, I saw the new bad boys' trailer drop, and that's when I realised I needed to focus.
Thanks Ali, I really like your videos. It's all very useful.👍🙏
1. Reduce context switching (use Raycast)
LOVED THIS!
Great tips, but regarding organising the day, unless it’s a company policy to block out the same segment of time for meetings, it’s just not practical.
