It’s all to easy for leaders to unwittingly and unintentionally create a gap between themselves and the people they lead.
Caught up in their own anxieties about doing a good job and managing an increased workload, they forget that their people see them differently. They perceive them as having it all sorted and having all the answers, often making it hard for them to ask for help when needed.
What follows can be a disconnection between team members, in turn leading to dysfunction and maybe even impacting mental health and the health of the organisation.
Developing a style of approachable leadership bridges that gap and that’s achievable through a simple practise of strategic storytelling.
