I lov guitar and have played all my life. But years ago there was no way to learn stuff like this without a real person in the room. I was sent to parchman prison In. 2003 and got out of that hell in 2014 and it’s been 5 years free now and I’m just now learning the phone and stuff I need to know on the internet.. a lot changed those years I was gone. And you make it peaceful to learn. This is all new to me it’s like I was placed on another planet for 10 and a half years. Thank you for being you I guess Im Trying to say.. I’m a song writer and I have to learn cover songs to make the bar owners happy and u help me so much!
Damian, I absolutely love your playing and everything you put in it! All of these lessons are fantastic and your a genuine person! However, the message at the end of the lessons are the best! You always make people feel empowered and confident in playing. Please continue the good work and thanks for helping people not only on guitar but in life! Sometimes, we can have a bad day on guitar and certainly in life, your videos are God send to me and many others! Thank you and may God Bless You and Yours!
Thank you Damien what a great lesson. That song brings back such good memories. Keep on Shining your beautiful light brother. Peace and Much Love. ❤🎸❤😇
Glad to know I’m not the only metalhead that’s into rockabilly LMAO. Love that south of heaven shirt dude. Thanks for the lesson 🤘🏻 this stuff is in my roots! You kept it short n’ simple, and I learned it in no time. It’s also a good thing you tell people in your lessons like this one, to take it slow. Those last couple of words at the end there is stuff I need to remember everyday, your awesome bro (new sub)
Thank you & glad you enjoyed the lesson. I've got a lot of albums and some I remember purchasing and some I don't. But Slayer's "South of Heaven" & "Reign in Blood" I remember clearly the day I got them lol. :)
When I first heard this riff getting into rockabilly years ago, it really lit a fire in me. It's just such a fun riff. It has that upbeat rock groove that is iconic in my eyes. Thank you for making it a part of your lesson. Keep rockin!
Thank you for checking out the lesson. I also heard this song for the first time when I first started getting into Rockabilly. In 1991 Rhino records released a great compilation called "Rock This Town: Rockabilly Hits, Vol.1 & 2" and that's was where I first heard the tune. I was young and really dug this compilation because it featured a bunch of great Rockabilly hits from the 50's and songs from the Rockabilly Revival era of the 70s & 80s. Keep on Rockin' DAMIAN :)
Damian, this is yet another incredibly educational video guitar lesson. I have loved this solo forever and you have just opened it up for me for learning it. You da bomb!
Thank you XLBiker13. I've been wanting to do a lesson on this song for many years now. I'm glad I finally did it. It was a lot of fun to do. :) Cheers DAMIAN
Bill Kirchen told me that listening to Doc Watson helped his playing and led him on to this kind of electric rockabilly playing. He mentioned Black Mountain Rag as a good example.
This song has haunted me since I first heard it in 1971. I was afaid to even try to play it even though I could play the main lick slowly. That was decades ago. A few days ago the melody hit me out of the blue. Why? I just dont know, but Im going to get over my fear and try to play it. Im going to follow this video and try to come as close as I can. I have eclectic music tastes and good music is good music no matter what genre it is. I find value and knowledge anywhere I can find it..or hear it. Thank you for putting this out there.
Thank you James for watching the lesson. Most players do not realize how hard the guitar part is to play at speed. With some practice, time & patience. I'm sure you'll be able to play it at tempo. Have fun with the lesson. :)
Bill Kirchen did a live stream last night (June 2021), and I REALLY wanted to learn that lick! Thank you for your lessons, and especially for your positive attitude. I know some people (my wife) think it's corny, but the world could use more corny & genuinely kind people.
the first time i heared this song was in the late 80s and it vas a version of the punk band "ALL". i loved this song from the first second. btw great playing, nice lesson, greetz from germany
I was in college when I first heard this song from my good friend who taught me a lot about playing music. Nice to see such a straightforward lesson on it, thanks! Oh yeah, I also just want to say it's awesome to see you in to so many different kinds of music too. Loving the posters and t-shirts you have!
I'm not a rockabilly guy, I'm into rock and metal, but I love the riff and also love how you slowed it down just enough to get the rhythm in my head. Good video 👍
Big thanks for doing this lesson Damian! Man-o-man, there are tons of great riffs, but this one rates way up there when it comes to --- "riff recognition." It's a head turner with folks when they hear the group strike up this tune. Again, thank you Damian for taking the time and effort in doing this for us!
Great lesson as always! I worked on this over the weekend and it's starting to heat up. Not cooking yet but definitely getting warm! Thanks and Happy New Year!
DB you know I like you, thanks for this lesson and all the entertainment over the past year, best wishes to you and yours from me and mine from Pete over the pond
True! Playing fast is not important right now. Starting slow and patient is the best way to sneak up on speed and gain dexterity. You have to know how to maneuver before you kick it in gear.
Instant like after notification. 👍 I was instantly thinking of Bill Kirchen "The Master of Dieselbilly" ans his iconic Pine Tele. Great song and tutorial as always. Best wishes and happy holidays from Germany!🎍🎍🎍 Edit: Thank you for the wise words at the end. I second that totally!
Bill Kirchen is such a great player. His playing is solid and very tasteful. Hope you have a great weekend & Happy Holidays to you as well. :) Cheers DAMIAN
Thanks for this video I've always loved this guitar part/intro to this song, but always had a mental block when playing the B-riff.I can play the E,A riff but still can't play the b riff don't know why.
It's a tough one to play. Everyone thinks it's easy, but to play it correctly and at tempo is harder than most people think. Keep at it, you'll get it. Cheers and thanks for watching! :)
Okay, everybody, stop asking to see more sweet dance moves. As wicked cool as they are, theres a time and place for that. We're here to learn. Okay, back to the lesson.
Great lesson as usual.. but it seems everyone has forgotten about the original 1955 Charley Ryan version. I still like the original version best. Thanks for the lesson.
Hi Damian, my first post here. Love your lessons and your style with that great attitude that keeps me going. Thank you for your awesome lessons… by the way what is that old school bmx there? I have an old Kuwahara laser lite. Thank you !! Cheers from Japan

Yes! That commander Cody live album "We got a live one here" changed my life when I was a kid.
Thanks Damian. Great dance moves and excellent words of wisdom

The bob ross of guitar lessons
what I thought: "The mob boss of guitar lessons"
Hi Damien, the last part tab? It looks like its all played on 5th string, am I wrong, I a bit puzzled, can please clarify
Hi Jay Gee
My finger is barring the A & D string to play the last section of the riff.

Soooo, the echo pedal is a no no? My bad... thanks!
Hi IamUncledeuce. In this lesson I didn't use a delay pedal. I just used a tiny bit of reverb. I wanted my tone to sound similar to the "Commander Cody" recorded version. Fast! I'm guessing 220 but he's playing 2 notes per beat.
Lancelot Link thank you, I’m going to try that tomorrow.
i think this song was inspired by tex williams smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette?
