I've seen a MILLION guitar lessons online and I've never seen one this stripped down... yet incredibly useful. I very much enjoyed this and learned a lot in a minimal amount of time. Some people (me) are very limited time-wise and this was perfect.
Nice. I totally dig the Johnny Rivers' version. My mom and I danced to this record when I was a wee baby back in the mid-1960s. It's an absolute joy to play this and other songs off that album on guitar.
Not only did you present a great lesson again, but I always like the brief history intro of the recording, who wrote it, who played it and the positive words of inspiration on the outro! You are truly a classy guy Damian and one helluva guitar player! Keep doing what you're doing!
Howdy Damian, I really enjoy this tune playing with my shiny new Gretsch Rally. It sounds chimney and gorgeous. I really appreciate your efforts keeping our r&r roots in the picture.
Mr. Bacci, thank you so much for this lesson. I have been waiting for over ten years for an accurate lesson of Johnny River's classic and you have delivered the goods! You are an amazing teacher and an INCREDIBLE GUITARISTS. Would love to see a lesson on his other big classic Secret Agent Man. Cheers!
Great concise lesson Damien. I worked with Johnny Rivers' brother and Johnny taught me this song as well as Secret Agent Man during halftime at a Superbowl party in '84 or '85. I confess I forgot how to play it, but you brought it all back. Be safe next week. All the best.
Hi Brad Thank you for sharing your personal story with Johnny. That is so cool that he taught you those songs during the halftime show. Thanks for checking out the lesson. I hope it brought back some fond memories for you. :) Keep on Rockin' DAMIAN
Thank you for the great lesson, Damian. I always loved Johnny Rivers music. I haven't heard this song in a while and now will probably cover it thanks to you. Love "ALL" your lessons! I've been playing guitar for over 50 years and there is always something new to learn. "Thank You" for taking the time to present such great videos! All the very best to you....... John Cortese🎸✌
Great Lesson. Bravo Sir! The "Live At The Whiskey A Go Go" album is state of the art early 60's rock. And this is a great example of that. Johnny Rivers should have been huge but the Liverpool lads were taking over rock at that time.
My God I actually bought that Johnny Rivers album when I was a kid. It's been that long! And the song still plays. What a great arrangement and you sure do it justice let's hope hurricane Dorian is good to us this weekend. This great tutorial lightens up that drama. See you over on your website, I'm checking out your rockabilly CD. Been enjoying your great Rockin guitar CD.
Hi John. Glad you enjoyed the lesson. I hope it brought back some great memories. The hurricane didn't affect my side of Florida. I hope you made out OK as well. It's been a crazy week trying to figure out where Dorian would eventually end up. Thanks again for all the support. Much appreciated. Keep on Rockin' DAMIAN
Great lesson. The tabs really help learn everything so thanks so much for that. Lived in Tampa for 15 yrs so know it well. We used to be able to dodge all the bad weather so stay safe and look out for all that water on Dale Mabry in South Tampa!!! All the best.
Thank you Tim. Glad to hear you enjoyed the lesson. It was a relief that the West Coast of Florida was spared. It appears that the East Coast of the State didn't get hit to bad. Which was also some good news. I just feel horrible for all the people in The Bahamas who were affected. Keep on Rockin' DAMIAN
Thank you George. I really appreciate it. My part of Florida will be spared. I'm hoping that the east coast of the state where my parents live doesn't get hit to hard. I'm currently sending good vibes to The Bahamas. Keep on Rockin' DAMIAN
Thank you Johngonefishin. Much appreciated. It's looking like the Tampa Bay area won't really be affected by Hurricane Dorian. Possibly we may get some Tropical Storm force winds in the area. But I'm prepared and ready if things get bad. Keep on rockin' buddy! DAMIAN
wow !!!! awesome Damian !!!! just LOVE this song bro !!!! thank you so much for uploading this lead guitar tab . Am gonna have a crack at this song on my new electric guitar with distortion and am gonna rock n roll 60's American style with all the Maori and kiwis here in New Zealand !!!!! lol :)
You can play that song great thanks for the lesson get read for me to watch a lot lol. I remember my dad use to play that when I was just a little kid in kindergarten. I thought he was great and he used a 335 I think it was one his friend left over there for a long while. It was majical hollow and woody sounding.
Love your lessons, you break everything down to the simplest form with the tabs. I'm a sappy old fart, could you do one on Slow dancing, swayin to the music?
Perfect TH-cam lesson. Just demonstrate each section quickly, and don't get bogged down in "index finger on the 2nd fret of the B string" sort of suff. Enjoy your videos.
Really love your lessons Damian & you're a fantastic player, thankyou for taking the time out to do these. As a request (I know it's not rockabilly or jazz though) if you ever did a feature on the late great Pretenders guitarist James Honeymoon Scott, then that would make my day.
Thank you Lancelot Link. It also reminds me of the intro to Hey Joe as well. Maybe Johnny's intro was a source of inspiration for Jimi's intro to Hey Joe. Cheers DAMIAN
This is the most accurate lesson I have seen comparing it to Rivers himself. My question is on the strum, seems like Rivers maybe doing a DDDUD through the entire song or maybe a ghost note. Im certainly struggling with doing so according to what my ears hear. Also when I play that power A, you and he get thump and I get a rung out bass note (not able yp left hand mute the he does) which I can palm mute is that also what your doing? Seems like its a heck of alot simpler then it is to get it all and in time to the original or and I just hearing things? That fingering at the 12/14 frets is a bugger for me!!
Hey Damian I have managed to rewrite and recompose the middle lead guitar solo tab for this Memphis Tennessee Johnny rivers song and I have managed to compose the exact same notes and lead melody as the original solo and am still playing an A6 to B6 to A6 and a D6 to E6 to D6 chords but I have redesigned the middle solo for slide guitar solo playing with my glass slide ! Still sounds good I reckon ! :)
Hi Pickles017 Thanks for checking out the lesson. I really appreciate it. I've been meaning to do a video of my gear. Stay tuned, I may be doing one soon. :) Keep on Rockin' DAMIAN
