    Country rock band Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen put “Hot Rod Lincoln” on their 1971 album Lost in the Ozone. It became the most successful version of "Hot Rod Lincoln," reaching No. 9 on the Billboard charts, No. 7 in Canada, and being ranked No. 69 on the Billboard Year-End Hot 100 singles of 1972.
    Bill Kirchen (born June 29, 1948) is an American rockabilly guitarist, singer and songwriter. He was a member of Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen from 1967 to the mid-1970s and is known as a "The Titan of The Telecaster" for his musical prowess on the guitar.
    "Hot Rod Lincoln" is a song by American singer-songwriter Charlie Ryan, first released in 1955. It was written as an answer song to Arkie Shibley's 1951 hit "Hot Rod Race.” Ryan's original rockabilly version of the song was released in 1955 through Souvenir Records under the artist name Charley Ryan and the Livingston Bros.
    A number of other cover versions exist, including one by Asleep at the Wheel (1988).

      Thank you. I didn't grow up with it. A bass player in a band of mine from way back kept suggesting we do it. We never did (we were largely an R&B band), but I gave it a listen. Whoa! Great stuff. And Bill Kirchen can really play!

      The original is unbeatable, but for a little different take on it you should check out Asleep At the Wheels version or Pat Travers. Both a stellar versions in their own right.

    • @MarkZabel
      @MarkZabel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice. Generally, I like Asleep at the Wheel. It was pretty similar to Commander Cody. Pat Travers never did it for me, but I listened to it and was pleasantly surprised. Not really very different from the original. I was expecting heavy distortion and flanger! :)

      I think there are two lyric changes that Comander Cody made to the song. Cody: that Model A body makes it look like a pup. Johnny Bond: that Model A body makes it look like a tub. 2nd Change Cody: The brakes are good and the tires are fair. Bond: The brakes are good and the tires are bare. Take a listen and tell me what you think.

      Hi. Devil Went Down to Georgia ... guitar version ... dangerous ground there. I'll give it a shot. For the Keith Urban song, "Sun Don't Let Me Down", what are you looking for on that? The reason I ask is that I don't hear much guitar in it. Do you just want a "here's how I would approach the song if playing in a bar band" sort of video for it?

    I sing this in Key of C, IS there anyway to change this to a Key of C riff?

    • @MarkZabel
      @MarkZabel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you have a few options.
      1. Tune the guitar down 2 whole steps (not recommended)
      2. Capo at the 8th fret and play as is
      3. Play normally in open position using C, F, and G. (requires different fingering and picking)
      4. Capo at the 3rd fret and play in "A position". That is, use strings 5 and 4 instead of 6 and 5.
      There are probably more options, but those are the easiest. Either option 2 or 4 should work. I would probably use option 4, but if that doesn't make sense to you, use option 2.
      Good luck!
