Really enjoy this time with you. At 66 I went out recently and purchased a little Stihl 180 for my small yard work in Louisville KY. never ran a chain saw (it’s not a power saw) but the satisfaction is rewarding. Been selling Caterpillar equipment for 40 years so I really enjoy mechanical things. Thanks for your videos and your words of wisdom. I will try and be kinder.

You may never see this comment, as the video is a year old, but I’ve watched several times. My favorite so far. Amazing that it also included your insights on your Dad. Great words. I’m an old Homelite guy. Like, almost 70 old. Use mostly just some old SXLAOs and a few XL-12s unless I need big for a fall or little for pruning. The 2 second difference in cut time notwithstanding, I’ll keep them. Ya see, I got started on them from my Dad. He had some old Macs too, but liked the Homeys best. Every time I pull the cord on one, I think of that old timberbeast. Good thoughts. And his shop and work bench looked about like yours. Thanks for the channel. I watch it a lot more than the news!

@Bubbles The SEZ, with a roughly 16 year model run, might possibly have been Homelite's best selling model. At only 40cc's with awesome compression, it's super powerful and really rips. Easily pulls a 16 or 18in bar.

My dad run homelite 1050 for over 20 years, he didn’t think there was a saw that could compete with it. He bought it new in California came with 36 inch bar and 42 bar he sold it running in year 2000. Now I want one even though I dnt need one I dont cut wood for living. But reminds me of some of my best times as a kid

Buckin Billy you’re the man. Your one of the most positive and inspirational people I’ve ever seen and I don’t think I will ever see anyone who can run a saw as good as you. Ha Ha.... Tell that ole Buckin Billy whats up...
      Ear gear =good
      Eye gear=where is it ?
      Eye protection =needed
Well if your Buckin on the ground it's easy to control the directing of your dust.
But if you're up in the tree cutting overhead, could be a problem.
My eyes are like dust magnets, sometimes i wear swimming goggles for moments of high dust, just don't want to keep them on too long.
Regular safety glasses are good for most things.
After you spend a lot of time flushing the eyes out you realize that wearing a breathing mask is sometimes a good idea also... Tiny particulates getting everywhere... Yikes. 😷
I'm no germaphobe but grinding rust is dirty.
Ear gear /eye protection /breathing mask, then i add gloves /hat /clothes and gloves... More gloves... My hands are like delicate little flowers 😄
      I'd rather be cutting wood.
I'd rather be climbing a tree.
      I'd rather be playing guitar
      I'd rather be watching Buckin tune up a power saw/splitting wood /playing drums/telling a story /talking trees.
Got much love for humans/animals and trees, not necessarily in that order. 💛

There is something about cutting wood for a living I find satisfying and sustaining. It makes the soul sing. The continuum of, “I was born to do this. I’m at the right place, at the right time, with the right instruments” has been a mantra of mine for years. I’m indebted to you for the compass bearings and motivation you have supplied, by just being you! Learn to love yourself and your life. The rewards are endless friends❤️🌲🌳🌲🌳❤️

Dad had the 10-10 (we called it a Two-10) and a Mini-Mac. Great saws, that finally failed due to letting them sit with old gas and Dad was no mechanic. He replaced with the Homelite Super XL-AO when I was 17 y-o and that was a step up. I still have and use the SXL-AO and I am now 69 y-o and it runs like new. Just finished cleaning up a huge black oak dead fall with it this past weekend. I have used your sharpening tips with it and the method is EZ and very effective. Thanks!

I love all of these videos, but this one really resonated with me in so many ways. It has to be that karma. 🙏🙏🙏
Absolutely, there is the passion for power saws, trees, and axes. That is a given! But it is the man behind that and his message and meaning that keeps drawing me back deeper and deeper into this community. At my ripe old age of 55, I never thought I would get into something like this the way I have. I am forever grateful for finding this channel years ago. To be fair, if the Homelite is brand new, the rings aren't fully seated yet.
Once you have a few cords under the belt, it'll be neck and neck with the Mac.
Nonetheless......you had fun doin it and we had fun watchin.

I cut high lead logs for a year with a Mac 10-10 until one day I set it down in front of the yarder track and Dad moved the machine forward a few feet during a road change. I was pulling straw line at the time helping out so I got my first Husky along with a good lesson.

I am 60 now. I put the plug in the jug at 27 years old too. St. Francis of Assisi. 11 am in NH 90 degrees no mortar for brick today.. Made a decision to do something different. Been successful one day at a time since 1987.

I find nothing more satisfying than cutting and splitting firewood, especially when my brother and I are wackin and stackin it together. You can SEE what you have accomplished unlike working on your computer all day. Take care.

My dad wasn't there to teach me any skills, my dad wasn't there to ride bikes, wasn't there to learn swimming, or show me how to shoot.
Couldn't show me anything on the piano or appreciate my early enthusiasm for the guitar... BUT... He did teach me kindness.
Kindness to strangers/kindness to animals and kindness to neighbors. He was friendly to everyone, even those in a bad mood.
But if someone would talk politics or religion he would get grumpy and cantankerous.
He loved his life of no hobbies and very little skills.
Could have been his addiction to alcohol that took up too much time.
Betting on sports and playing the lottery are not skills.
Watching sports is not an activity but it does absorb large amounts of time.
Even though he was not the best father in the neighborhood, he was the best i had.
My mother was a saint to stick with him through thick and thin.
I was lucky to have acres of woods behind my house to run, to ride(bicycles) and climb (every frickin tree) trees, even the ones with poison Ivy growing up them... 😕😫😲

I see these comparisons and love them. I own a small variety of power saws. I know you love Mcculloch as I do. I live in Southern California and there isn't the abundace or need for larger cc saws as in your neck of the woods. I happen to own a poulan 245A which I have yet to have it have it cut the biggest Wood I have been faced with maybe 3-4 foot. Far and few between. Just wondering if you have owned or run a 245. Just wondering what you thought of them if you ever used one?
