+Myles Only if YOU suck, i use it & still do well with it but yea there's plenty of other weapons better to use & using this takes an effort but i still use it here & there.
changes to make this gun good, first: bring hand cannons back to what they were, second: in the first curse, make the gun two headshot when you're super close to a enemy, third: up the bullet count to 12 rounds in the mag, so you know, we can actually use the first curse buff
A good buff I think for this gun would be. When you get that first precision kill it will refill the magazine from your reserves and the give you the first curse buff. After that any precision kill won't refill the mag. Also buff its range a bit and stability.
+Daniel Lynch the buffs have finally made this weapon worth it. And the December weapon balance may be enough to bring down the tyranny of pulse rifles
This gun can be used effectively with the radient dance machines, max agility, and lightweight. You move pretty fast when ads and it's fun to use. Another good tip is using it with sealed ahmkaras grasps.
I think a good change for this gun would be after each time you get a precision kill it refills the mag, and the first curse perk will always be active until you hit the reload button.
Knowing all its flaws, I really love this gun. Something about it just speaks to me in so many different levels. I normally use First Curse with my Gunslinger with Sealed Grasps because Grasps allows throwing knifes to have a chance to auto-reload the weapon, while keeping the perk active. If your also using incendiary blade, each tick of damage can also proc Grasps auto-reload perk.
"Then you'll have as many shots in your mag as an unupgraded hawkmoon!!!" This killed me because this is word-for-word what I said when I went through the stats on mine.
Yeah I agree about not giving it a damage boost but instead an increase to reload speed after a precision kill, and also an increase to range and stability AFTER your next reload.
Well, there are a few things I would change or add to the gun (and i'm not new to the gun, since i leveled it up to max exlusively by playing the game (no motes and only 3 bounties applyed)). First boost the range after a kill more. My hawksaw, a weapon with a low range stat, suffered no damage dropoff where a first curse with the perk active did. Mov Speed must be at MIDA levels as well. The perk stacking would be nice, but considering you can only proc it 3 times, and use it on 2 bullets, the results would be pretty bad. So there are a few ideas. The first is that it doubles the effects of triple tap. While the second would be triggering triple tap 3 times in the same magazine would fully reload the weapon, keeping the perk (the perk could only stack up to 3 times).
Bungie needs to stop this trend of balancing by making every gun bad. They're so gun-shy (see what I did there?) about making the exotics powerful that all of them are just plain unexciting. They should take a page out of Treyarch's book (totally different game, I know, but the point is still the same) and make all the guns good. If everything is overpowered, then nothing is overpowered (I'm not meaning this literally).
Making everything "overpowered" would increase the time to kill of this game and turn it into a twitch shooter of whoever pulls the trigger first wins the gunfight (like cod) i feel you tho, bungie sucks at balancing but your idea isnt any better
+John Clausen thats what happened with shotguns, also if everything is overpowered then skill doesn't matter as much which makes everything less fun. Bungie just needs to balance and rework things wayyyy for often. It takes them a ridiculous amount of time to balance guns when it should really only take 2-3 weeks.
Almost all of the hand cannon nerfs in 2.0 were completely uncalled for, but one of the worst was the decrease to initial accuracy. It basically means that your accuracy cone is wider by default, which means more random chance that your bullets won't go where you point them, and it only gets worse as you continue to fire. And now that cone seems to be much more heavily affected by the range stat. I've got an Eyasluna with hidden hand and hammer forged, and it /almost/ never misses, but that's because it's got a stupidly high range stat. The Imprecation, on the other hand, has extremely low range, and very frequently misses shots it shouldn't have. I even did a test by firing at specs of dirt on the walls, just to see how inaccurate it is with all variables removed, and the results were shocking. Even at close range, carefully lining up my shots and firing very slowly, over half the shots I fired would miss the target by an alarming margin, certainly enough to miss a headshot in crucible. This of course renders hand cannons unusable outside close range. The problem with that is that scout rifles, for example, are usable at close range, even if they suck at it, but they are ideal at long ranges. I get that hand cannons should be ideal at close ranges, but if you can't even hit a target at /mid/ range with them, why would you ever equip them? The change to damage falloff was the only thing needed for hand cannons to keep them from outgunning long range weapons. But they should still be able to at least hit targets at respectable ranges, even if the damage is greatly reduced.
i really do hope they take to heart some of the feedback the community is giving around this gun and hand cannons as a whole. as a big Timur's Lash fan, I want so badly for First Curse to be a solid gun. I'm good with the range changes they made for damage drop off, and i had thought the issue they needed to boost back up a bit was aim assist, but i like that idea on adjusting the bloom cone reset back down, at least for the slow firing hand cannons. this archetype is one that i never really worried about the stability because you should be pacing your shots out anyway with a patient skilled hand, but that bloom cone reset nerf seems like its just adding insult to injurt. i'm interested to see what they do with the next couple patches to see what they do with hand cannons.
I think the main thing holding this gun back is its lore it's suppose to be a prototype last word and it wouldn't make sense if a prototype had better stats than the final
In all honestly, I like the gun. The only thing about the first curse perk that I think it needs is that in addition to the range and stability buff it should pull ammo from your reserve and fill the mag similar to the white nail perk. That way you always have a full mag with the buff.
The First Curse perk should work for the whole next magazine. With each congruent magazine getting a precision kill stability and range can stack to a max stat. Triple tap should be replaced with outlaw and magazine buffed to at least 10.
Outlaw works with the gun's theme and would make it a very viable weapon. If you get a precision kill early, great, you've got most of a magazine to enjoy the buff. If you get a precision kill later in the magazine, you can use Outlaw to get a quick reload. In the middle - well, you've got a decision to make.
Sealed grasps work very well with this weapon as the refill mag on mele hits does not deactivate the perk. I personally enjoy this weapon because its not that good. Everyone uses hawkmoon because its better so its feels awesome when you do good with this gun.
Well if they buff it to post-2.0 thorn, I would be fine with that. I guess when Bungie was designing it to be the opposite of TLW, they really took that to heart, and tried to make this the worst hand cannon in the game.
Add a higher fire rate and increase reload speed when the buff goes off on top of those other perks. If ammo isn't increased after some patch, make it so when you activate the perk, the next reload increases the magazine size. Makes it a lot more rewarding.
+tvesrb only thing they need to add back to hand cannons is accuracy, the range drop off is bad enough and now a hand cannon suffers from bullets not even hitting a target
I'm the kind of player that uses my sniper rifle more than anything. It's become a habit to switch to my primary and fire one shot, hoping that it will do enough damage and that it will land period. For players like me, this gun is perfect- it almost ensures that the shot makes it home and deals huge damage. I suppose the same can be done with Hawkmoon or other guns like it, but the impact is unmatched and the aim assist cushions the fall that the range provides. Hey, I'm just pumped that it's getting buffed. I don't have it, but I love the idea of it. Hard-hitting hand cannons are my cup of tea, almost all you have to do is be more patient with your aim. Simple as that.
Last year: COMMUNITY- thorn is a bad exotic hand cannon, it needs to be buffed. BUNGIE- OK now it's OP have fun. Year two: COMMUNITY:The first curse is a bad exotic hand cannon, it needs to be buffed.
I know Patrick said he doesn't think it needs a damage buff, but I think it needs to reward an accurate player more. They could give increased precision shot damage and increased reload speed. I think that might actually make it feel rewarding and worth an exotic slot.
What they need to do : give it more range , like the actual range it deserves . Make it 100% for that matter , wouldn't be too much for an exotic which exotic trait is having crazy range . Then , make it so when you have the first curse perk active , you do 15-25% additional damage . That way , it will make it a good weapon to use in pvp once you've actually managed to get a precision shot . If you managed to get the kill with as few bullets as possible , then you'll still have a few ones with bonus damage , making it a two shot headshot , kinda like hawkmoon (2-3 guaranteed two shot headshots) except that instead of being automatically and randomly given to you , you have to deserve it by getting a kill first , and the importance of the bonus will depend on how effectively you got your kill . I think that would be worthy of such a long quest and rare exotic weapon .
Well the impact I'd say is what really saves the handcannon. It saves it enough for me to say, it's the first time in a long while that I enjoy using handcannons in PvE. Honestly it's all personal preference with destiny guns, along with this particular gun being meant for PvE. It's slow-ish reload has perfect pacing for when I take cover and it's high impact is great against T1 mobs that have no crit spots. It's lovely for getting close and personal while being really mobile.
Honestly, I thought maybe making the first curse buff completly reload the gun on a prescision kill, then making it active until reload would be the best option. But, I can see that being to strong in some cases, so maybe as a stipen, it will only instantly reload if the buff is not already active, that gives you a full magazine to work with before having to reload and lose the perk
What if each precision shot gave a damage boost for the next precision shot, and precision kills increased weapon stability range and handling? That way it rewards for precise kills and it fixes the reload problem
I feel like if Bungie gave it crowd control as a hidden perk or either outlaw, an even faster reload, or a slight magazine upgrade it could save this weapon.
If you want to learn how to tap-throwing knife, this is the gun you want to learn with. A body shot+knife will kill. It's a good strat to use with scout rifles, as the strat is amazing in close range, and the scout tears through at long. Boolean Gemini ftw!
Cool how this gun can do 95 damage to the head but still takes 3 shots. Just that makes me want to use Hawkmoon with its 88-114 damage model, better stats, bigger mag and feather engravings. Very shiny feather engravings
I would say to make the First Curse buff last until your next death rather than next reload. You would see a lot more players using it and having fun trying to keep a perfect kill streak, but it would still be a challenge given the universal nerf to hand cannons.
I love this gun, but yeah, it definitely needs some help. Maybe if getting triple tap activated gave your extra bullet luck in the chamber damage it'd be better. That way it really does reward a skilled hand.
It should totally have reload speed buff along the first curse and the first curse perk doesn't go away until the player misses completely or doesn't kill with a precision shot. It would prove more beneficial to the skilled players and still be hard to use for novice players (not that being bad with hand cannons are a bad thing).
I've found that this gun is amazing if you are playing with someone in your fireteam with a last word and is good with it, 1 headshot then they blink in a go ham, honestly I only see this gun as a "support" gun also I'd say that the best way to make this gun better would to be just increase the fire rate a tiny bit and give it like a 10 mag size
What if it would be 2 shot only if after you get a kill so you would theoretically have 6 shots max after the kill and the max damage only lasts until you reload again or miss a precision shot
in my test curse outshines hawkmoon in every aspect. does more damage, better recoil management, all the bullets shot at wall basically touch eachother an has superior range when first curse procts
How to fix: Increase impact ever so slightly so that it consistently two-shots to the head, buff range by a lot, increase magazine size to 11. I want this weapon to truly become an extension of my Warlock's arm.
I actually really like first curse XD if someone is using low armor it can two shot head shot, and when the first curse perk is proc, it can snipe without damage fall off
It just needs the buff to stack with each kill and transfer over to new mags... Maybe it should be on a timer... Maybe they need another perk on the gun to give bonuses on precision hits? This gun sounds cool in theory, but the base stats aren't good enough either. For a gun that is focussed on aiming and taking your time, maybe it should have an insane amount of stability and range... I would even prefer that and they could bump the damage down a tier. Then it would be a long range hand cannon with a longer time to kill! That would be cool and unique.
I only got this after the December patch and I have to say I am having a decent time with it. It is the only exotic hand cannon I have got at the moment as neither Hawkmoon, Thorn or the Last Word have dropped for me yet.
I think they should make the second buff increase range, stability until the next reload AND increase the speed of the next reload after precision kills. Then slightly buff the reload speed as well.
Dead Eye should give additional damage resistance while aiming down the sights. That way, the slow Time To Kill would be offset by increased endurance which, in practical terms, would slow down the TTK of any other weapon being used on you. In PvE, the buff could be made slightly more substantial as well since PvP balancing isn't necessary.
Like what Holtzman said, make it stack. If you did it where you get 10 seconds for the stacks and up to 3 stacks (like Chain of Woe or Gunslinger's Trance for a Gunslinger) then I think it would be good.... I mean I still wouldn't use it because I just hate handcannons and there are a bunch of exotics I would prefer, but I'm sure a lot more people would use it.
Here's a way to fix The First Curse. Activating The First Curse automatically re-fills the mag. Precision kills while The First Curse is active adds 4 shots back
tbh, this is the only hand cannon in the game I've enjoyed thus far... imo, if this thing needs any changes at all i would do the following: -raise mag size to 9 (with triple tap this one change would potentially raise the max ammo count to 13 shots) -speed up the reload a small amount everything else that could be said is problematic across all hand cannons (accuracy/range)
didn't the Last Word had the same reload problem back in the launch of Destiny? When they fixed it it begun to rise until reach the HoW point where it was almost a plague in crusible together with the thorn.
I love this gun myself. I am the type of player who likes to use guns many consider "Bad" just to prove any gun can be good when used properly. For me, getting kills with TFC is very satisfying. My only problem is that ALL hand cannons were penalized because the outliers (Y1 Thorn/TLW) were overpowered in their respective rights.
I've said this before, but they should either have the TFC perk increase damage/rate of fire while keeping every other stat, or increase the magazine size and have the buff work a lot better for range and stability. Either way Hawkmoon will still beat it, so I don't see why not.
They should change the main perk to increased precision damage after a precision kill. That way it won't be overpowered, but it will be usable to skilled players.
Making it have Outlaw as a default perk would fix not only the reload speed, but make it seem as if it isn't as punishing to reload the thing with ammo still in the mag - although a chain-able reload speed buff as part of the namesake perk would be preferable.
This gun aint by no means bad. I got 22 kills and all my head shots in one match with the actual bad Imprecation gun. This gun is just the Imprecation on steroids. I don't play PVP that much so I haven't used the First Curse that much. I did use it for trials tho the first week it came out. Needless to say I was doing ok with it. Was mostly sniping tho. I think it's a good weapon and I'm glad I'm the only one that thinks it's good. I'll be the only one using the gun. The gun that actually rewards skill. Of course people that lack skill will dislike the gun. It's the same reason why they disliked Imprecation. But to each his own. Y'all can stay with the Hawkmoon. I found my HC of the year.
It's great hearing Holtzman rant about bad weapons
+CosmicSawtooth You should hear him play the dating sim he hason his channel lol
Short answer
It sucks

It really sucks

Best comment I've seen today XD
true story
Short question: When will they review The Jade Rabbit? I have it, yes, but I want to know PlanetDestiny's solid opinion on this gun!
+Myles Only if YOU suck, i use it & still do well with it but yea there's plenty of other weapons better to use & using this takes an effort but i still use it here & there.
Man this is the perfect video for this weapon. Excellent description of it's flaws and it's hidden potential. Great job Holtz!
you can tell in the end how happy Holtz was with that last line :P
+Shea Hennessey Haha, First Curse got 3rd degree solar burn from that :P

face it. Bungie cannot balance anything. they either nerf them into oblivion. or make them extremely op.
Why is this so true
It's getting buffed! planetdestiny.com/december-weapon-balance/
Yay!!!
+PlanetDestiny hope you do some sort of video when the buff comes! ^-^
+PlanetDestiny Thoughts on the buff?
+Daniel Lynch the buffs have finally made this weapon worth it. And the December weapon balance may be enough to bring down the tyranny of pulse rifles
+PlanetDestiny
Calling it now, Bungo's "re-balancing" isn't going to improve much.
That Logic instrumental in the background is pure fire🔥🔥🔥
This gun can be used effectively with the radient dance machines, max agility, and lightweight. You move pretty fast when ads and it's fun to use. Another good tip is using it with sealed ahmkaras grasps.

I can just feel the salt and sarcasm dripping from every word uttered.
my favorite is still the anguish: "its a weapon in that it does damage, but barely" LOLOL
Knowing all its flaws, I really love this gun. Something about it just speaks to me in so many different levels. I normally use First Curse with my Gunslinger with Sealed Grasps because Grasps allows throwing knifes to have a chance to auto-reload the weapon, while keeping the perk active. "Then you'll have as many shots in your mag as an unupgraded hawkmoon!!!"
This killed me because this is word-for-word what I said when I went through the stats on mine.
I love when Holtzmann just plainly insults bad weapons in reviews
Yeah I agree about not giving it a damage boost but instead an increase to reload speed after a precision kill, and also an increase to range and stability AFTER your next reload.
thats actually a good idea
+AfroNinja1995 or make the buff last until you switch weapons.
Well, there are a few things I would change or add to the gun (and i'm not new to the gun, since i leveled it up to max exlusively by playing the game (no motes and only 3 bounties applyed)). Would Chain of Woe patch up that slow reload speed?
LOL THAT ONE PART WITH THE TITAN AND YOU WERE JUST JUMPING AROUND!!! XD
I think the main thing holding this gun back is its lore it's suppose to be a prototype last word and it wouldn't make sense if a prototype had better stats than the final
Holtzman your savage at that ending sentence

Woah, woah, woah, I swear we all said these same fucking things about Thorn last year. Don't let it happen again.
+Thegamerguy123 That's why we're proposing to buff reload speed, not damage
+PlanetDestiny a lot of people just said buff reload speed about thorn as that was it's biggest problem. then bungie went overboard
+PlanetDestiny Haha I know just messing. Getting this on Wednesday, and I'd like to enjoy it but the gun does look balls atm.
Well if they buff it to post-2.0 thorn, I would be fine with that. I guess when Bungie was designing it to be the opposite of TLW, they really took that to heart, and tried to make this the worst hand cannon in the game.
+Aaron Ainaire well thats bungies fault, not the players complaining about a not so good weapon
Making this gun automatic fan fire with 100 percent accuracy would make this gun a lot better
i hope the december weapon tuning makes this thorn 2.0
Add a higher fire rate and increase reload speed when the buff goes off on top of those other perks. If ammo isn't increased after some patch, make it so when you activate the perk, the next reload increases the magazine size. Makes it a lot more rewarding.
they should just give it outlaw. would fix a lot of the pve problems
+Patrick Star that and dial back the nerf on hand cannons a bit
+Patrick Star Definitely. Outlaw or even feeding frenzy would be a huge help.
+tvesrb only thing they need to add back to hand cannons is accuracy, the range drop off is bad enough and now a hand cannon suffers from bullets not even hitting a target
Hey PD you think this weapon will be buffed in the December update? Maybe hand cannon accuracy in general?
I'm the kind of player that uses my sniper rifle more than anything. It's become a habit to switch to my primary and fire one shot, hoping that it will do enough damage and that it will land period. LOL that last sentence was just screaming: REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKT
Last year: COMMUNITY- thorn is a bad exotic hand cannon, it needs to be buffed.
BUNGIE- OK now it's OP have fun.
Year two: COMMUNITY:The first curse is a bad exotic hand cannon, it needs to be buffed.
The editing in this video was spot on!
2 changes. Faster reload and add 1 thing to last perk, you can activate that perk with another weapon
I personally love this gun I am very good with it I always get a reign of terror medal every time I decide using it
I know Patrick said he doesn't think it needs a damage buff, but I think it needs to reward an accurate player more. They could give increased precision shot damage and increased reload speed. I think that might actually make it feel rewarding and worth an exotic slot.

I remember watching you get this footage, and I laughed really hard.
Well the impact I'd say is what really saves the handcannon. It saves it enough for me to say, it's the first time in a long while that I enjoy using handcannons in PvE. Honestly it's all personal preference with destiny guns, along with this particular gun being meant for PvE. What if each precision shot gave a damage boost for the next precision shot, and precision kills increased weapon stability range and handling? That way it rewards for precise kills and it fixes the reload problem
+Dylan Nguyen they shouldn't touch the damage of TFC, they should fix/address the slow reload. What Patrick said in the video is what they should do.
"the range stat which effects the aim assistance" Gotta get it in there I see
if you use sealed ahamkara grasps to refil the mag does it count as reloading?
What's a buff for the first curse to get its rank to near hawkmoon or make it a competitor with the hawkmoon
I just want it just to have it. I love the lore around Thorn/Last Word, and that's about it.
Peep that logic contact track in the background in the beginning 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
It feels like all the TTK exotics forgot their "wow" factor on the way in. Except maybe the Graviton Forfeit because Shadestep is fun as hell.
I feel like if Bungie gave it crowd control as a hidden perk or either outlaw, an even faster reload, or a slight magazine upgrade it could save this weapon.

Hawkmoon can 2 shoot
I recognize the instrumental at the very start from Logic's new album, The Incredible True Story.
lmfao, "you can watch paint dry between shots".
I would say to make the First Curse buff last until your next death rather than next reload. You would see a lot more players using it and having fun trying to keep a perfect kill streak, but it would still be a challenge given the universal nerf to hand cannons.
this gun looks like it is designed for a specific gunslinger build that requires the perks which grant stability and reload buffs for crit kills.
Movement speed is beyond noticeable with deadeye.
Damn Holtzmann! That last line of yours about The Last Word and The First Curse...savage as fuck brah.
So i just started this quest. Considering the fact that i suck terribly at crucible is it even worth trying to get this gun?
What if it would be 2 shot only if after you get a kill so you would theoretically have 6 shots max after the kill and the max damage only lasts until you reload again or miss a precision shot
Is that Logic i hear in the background?
in my test curse outshines hawkmoon in every aspect.
does more damage, better recoil management, all the bullets shot at wall basically touch eachother an has superior range when first curse procts
How to fix: Increase impact ever so slightly so that it consistently two-shots to the head, buff range by a lot, increase magazine size to 11. I want this weapon to truly become an extension of my Warlock's arm.
+TheNerdFormer if they increase the impact, they should make it that so it has exactly enough impact to 2 shot a max armor warlock.
+BrianButterzz ! Max armor Sunbreaker Titan. Kappa.
TheNerdFormer you wish.
+BrianButterzz ! Nah, m8. My Anguish of Drystan is 2 gud 4 u.
I actually really like first curse XD if someone is using low armor it can two shot head shot, and when the first curse perk is proc, it can snipe without damage fall off
Can anyone help me? What are the songs used? Thanks! :)
you know what would solve the problems, if it had a elemental burn on it, i say....SOLAR
That's the best idea I've seen
I was actually gonna grind for this weapon. Thanks Patricick!
This weapon needs a huge buff!
I really want to love this gun. Hope bungie can save it. Perhaps a 9 or 10 round mag size? Plus a blanket buff to accurazy to all Hand canons?
Anyone know when they're buffing this?
they need to buff it by increasing range and mag size
I think they should make the second buff increase range, stability until the next reload AND increase the speed of the next reload after precision kills. Then slightly buff the reload speed as well.
I don't know why I clicked this. I practically saw this last night lol
What map are you playing on in the first part of the video?
Skywatch
Like what Holtzman said, make it stack. If you did it where you get 10 seconds for the stacks and up to 3 stacks (like Chain of Woe or Gunslinger's Trance for a Gunslinger) then I think it would be good.... I mean I still wouldn't use it because I just hate handcannons and there are a bunch of exotics I would prefer, but I'm sure a lot more people would use it.
Here's a way to fix The First Curse.
Activating The First Curse automatically re-fills the mag. Precision kills while The First Curse is active adds 4 shots back
buff its ammo capacity, make it hold 20 bullets and incredibly large backup ammo. boom exotic perk is now useful and it feels more like an exotic.
tbh, this is the only hand cannon in the game I've enjoyed thus far...
imo, if this thing needs any changes at all i would do the following:
-raise mag size to 9 (with triple tap this one change would potentially raise the max ammo count to 13 shots)
-speed up the reload a small amount
everything else that could be said is problematic across all hand cannons (accuracy/range)
didn't the Last Word had the same reload problem back in the launch of Destiny?
When they fixed it it begun to rise until reach the HoW point where it was almost a plague in crusible together with the thorn.
3:40 that grenade lolol
I love this gun myself. I am the type of player who likes to use guns many consider "Bad" just to prove any gun can be good when used properly. For me, getting kills with TFC is very satisfying. My only problem is that ALL hand cannons were penalized because the outliers (Y1 Thorn/TLW) were overpowered in their respective rights.
With this gun I just think of supernatural and the mark of Cain
I've said this before, but they should either have the TFC perk increase damage/rate of fire while keeping every other stat, or increase the magazine size and have the buff work a lot better for range and stability. Either way Hawkmoon will still beat it, so I don't see why not.
Yeah, I really hope Bungie will take another look at this weapon.
They should change the main perk to increased precision damage after a precision kill. That way it won't be overpowered, but it will be usable to skilled players.
Do you guys think this gun is gonna be good after the buff? leave your thoughts
Woah! Do people still play this game?
